Serena’s POV

Even though I’m in terrible pain, I know I have to move. The explosion has made everything worse - my back feels like it’s on fire, and every step sends shockwaves through my body. But I can hear voices outside, angry voices that I recognize.

Alec helps me up, supporting most of my weight as we try to figure out where to go. The warehouse suddenly feels like a trap instead of a hiding place. There are too many entrances, too many ways for them to get in.

“Can you run?” Alec asks, looking around frantically.

“I’ll have to,” I grit my teeth and try to stand on my own. The pain is almost unbearable, but fear is a powerful motivator.

We head toward the back exit first, thinking maybe we can slip out without being seen. But as soon as Alec reaches for the door handle, it explodes inward. Three of Lucan’s vampire minions stand there, their eyes glowing red in the dim light.

“Going somewhere?” one of them asks with a nasty grin.

We spin around and run toward the front exit, but
