Crius and I were drinking cold lemonade while sitting on the back porch, chatting about all sorts of things. Corbin still hadn’t returned, even though it was already late in the afternoon. He needed to rest for his trip tomorrow, but whatever—he can do what he wants, and I’ll do what I want too… with my father-in-law. He’s actually such a pleasant person to talk to, and just being with him already made me feel lighter.

“Theia, I hope you don’t take this the wrong way…” he said, and I turned to look at him. “Is something wrong between you and Corbin? I noticed that you don’t seem okay as a couple.” His voice carried a hint of concern. I sighed and nodded sadly.

“It’s been like this for months, Pa. I don’t even know what I did wrong. We just suddenly started fighting all the time. Just the other night, he accused me of seeing another man,” I said sorrowfully. “I could never do that to him, Pa. That’s why he decided that I should stay here with you for the time being.”
