FAZER LOGINI finished dressing and applying light makeup to my face in five minutes. I didn’t want to put anything on my face at first, but considering how neat and classy Raviel looked, even in simple clothes, I decided to put some makeup on my face. A little orange lipstick and blush would do the trick to brighten up my look tonight.
“Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“It’s ok. I used my time to reply to the emails that came in this afternoon.”
Raviel tucked his phone into his pants pocket. His gaze never left my body. I could tell that he was satisfied with what I was wearing. The boredom in his eyes had turned into a sparkle of enthusiasm. I wish I could always see him like that.
“I thought you wouldn’t be dealing with your work during the holidays.”
I made the first conversation after we got out of our suite area. The lounge we were headed to was near the resort’s main restaurant. We had to walk through a path lined with palm trees to an open area, past a playground, and a garden. Every VIP guest got a buggy to go to the restaurant, but Raviel just told me that he wanted to walk to the lounge instead of using the buggy.
“Those jobs are unavoidable. No matter how hard I try to get away from them, there are always things that make me have to go back to them. So yeah, this is how I enjoy life.”
“I thought being rich was fun.”
“There’s always a price to pay for all the privileges we have. By the way, how does it feel to be a psychology student who studies human behavior all the time? Do you ever get bored?”
“Bored? No. I like it. I like being around strangers and observing them. Humans are unique and interesting. I can hardly resist making simple observations of the people around me.”
“So, you’ve been observing me all this time?”
“Well, how could I pass up the chance to observe you when I’m this close to you, right?” I chuckled softly.
“Tell me, what’s your assessment of me so far?”
“Hmm… You’re a mysterious man full of surprises. I mean, there are so many sides to you that I hadn’t noticed before.”
Raviel laughed at my silly assessment of him. His laughter sounded so crisp and melodious. My stepfather truly had a unique personality. It made me want to stay close to him, to uncover more of the sides of himself he kept hidden from those around him.
“I’m just an ordinary man, Claire. I have emotions, and of course, I can laugh. It’s just that I don’t laugh every day. I only laugh when something is truly worth laughing at.”
“Even so, you’re still unique in my eyes. If only I could have known you better in the past, but well…” I gave a slight shrug.
“But we were too busy with our own things, weren’t we?”
Our short conversation stopped abruptly when we arrived at the lounge. The place was very beautiful with a very beautiful beach view and live music. Everyone who was having dinner at the lounge were couples in love. Maybe we were the only ones who weren’t a couple here. But Raviel booked the table to have dinner with my mom. I just replaced her because she wasn’t feeling well.
Don’t get a big head and think that Raviel prepared all this for you, Claire!
“Our table is over there.”
My focus immediately shifted to the food served on the table. Raviel had ordered food before we arrived at the lounge to save time, so we wouldn’t have to wait too long for our food to arrive. And I was very grateful for that because I was very hungry. I hadn’t eaten anything since I got off the plane. My saliva almost dripped as my eyes explored the food one by one. And guess what, I found one of my favorite foods among them. Great!
“How did you know I really like grilled salmon?”
“Just a random guess.”
Raviel pulled out a chair for me like a true gentleman. Again, it made me forget that he was my stepdad, and not my boyfriend.
“Thank you. I really like grilled salmon.”
“Eat it and don’t leave a single thing on your plate.”
“I won’t. Maybe I will embarrass you with my pig-like eating style. Mom said I’m fat like a pig.”
“I think your mother is exaggerating. You are not at all fat like a pig,” Raviel stroked my cheek gently.
“Your mother is just jealous of you because you are still young and fresh like a flower that has just bloomed in the garden.”
I chuckled at his words. “There’s no way my mother would be jealous of me. She has everything a woman in the world could want.”
Raviel stared at me intently before gracefully placing the napkin on his thigh. He seemed indifferent, but the words that came out of his mouth after that managed to make the hair on the back of my neck stand on end.
“Trust me, your mother has a thousand and one reasons to be jealous of you, Claire. You’re the lucky one.”
And he smirked at me.
As soon as I arrived at the resort, I was greeted by two police officers outside my suite. Claire was with them, looking gloomy and mournful. Her eyes were glassy as she lifted her head and looked at me. I didn't see Charles or Dave around. Yeah, those two boys had to have a good reason why they weren't with Claire this afternoon.“Raviel,” Claire called me. Her voice was hoarse and wet. She ran towards me before hugging me tightly and burying her head in my chest.ShitIf the reason Claire shed tears was because of those two cops, I would not hesitate to destroy their careers.“What’s wrong?”My question was directed at the two cops. They were looking at me as if I was the criminal they were looking for. Well, I am. But they would never have proof of the crimes I had committed.“Where have you been?”“Didn’t I leave a message with the receptionist that I had urgent business in Las Vegas?”“You shouldn’t have left Hawaii while the investigation into your wife’s death was still ongoing
I stood behind the rifle, eyeing my target through the lens. He was still sitting at the dining table. Most of the plates were empty. I could be sure my target was full and satisfied.Wasn’t I kind? I gave him a happy ending before sending him to his creator.“Madam, don’t bend over near him.”My index finger was right on the trigger. I timed how long it would take for my bullet to penetrate his skull. It depended heavily on the wind speed. And lucky for me, it was as smooth as a baby's bottom.“I warned you, madam.”Bang! The sound wouldn't have been heard from across the building, but my bullet had hit the poor guy's skull. The bitch screamed hysterically a second after the guy's body collapsed in front of her with brains splattered all over her face. She was completely hysterical and ran out of her room in panic, as if she saw the death reaper standing right in front of her.I grabbed my other phone and sent a message in the chat room on my web portal. My client replied shortly aft
I assumed Claire wouldn’t need me during her time of mourning her mother’s death. And I didn’t want to pretend to be a sad widower in front of her either.Yikes, that was gross. So, I decided to leave her in the care of Chasles and Dave while I was gone. But, of course, with a stern warning that those punks were not allowed to touch Claire, even a fingernail. If they dared to touch my Claire, I wouldn’t hesitate to blow their brains out and throw their bodies into the ocean.“I take your offer. Ten million dollars for Broody Cameron.”“Deal. I want him executed immediately.”“Once you pay the deposit, I will execute him.”“You’ll have it in a few minutes.”I stared at my laptop screen which was displaying a portal for a digital bank. The notification bell in the corner of the homepage blinked twice. I clicked on it and grinned.“Yes. I have received the down payment. I will process your order today.”“Nice doing business with you, Cole.”Cole, Brian, Hellish, Carl, Tim and other shit
“Good evening, Mr. Marshal.”“Evening, gentle men. She’s Claire Osborn, my stepdaughter.”They looked at each other before one of them, the higher-ranking one, stepped forward to express his condolences to Claire.“I’m sorry about what happened to your mother.”“Is what Raviel said true? My mother was killed in a robbery?”“We’ll explain the details. But before that, can those people leave this place?”“As I told you on the phone, I will throw a party to celebrate our wedding anniversary. And before you came, I already told them about the difficult situation I am facing. I wanted to send them home, but I waited for you to come because you are the one who has the right to decide whether they should stay or leave this place.”“Yes, they can leave now. Can we talk somewhere private?”“Sure. Follow me.”Claire’s palms were ice cold. She didn’t resist when I held them and led her to Cooper’s office. I had asked his permission to use his office before the police came because I was sure they
“Oh, I thought you were Mrs. Marshal.”“No. She is my stepdaughter. Claire Osborn.”Raviel put his arm around my shoulder, then patted it gently.“My wife is still on her way here. Actually, she doesn’t know about this party and we are going to surprise her.”“Oh, we are really impressed that you have built a good relationship with your stepdaughter. Once again, I apologize for the mistake earlier.”“It’s no big deal. Enjoy the party, Mr. Armstrong. Claire and I will greet the other guests while we wait for my wife.”Raviel led me to another crowd near the buffet. This time he made a clear introduction at the beginning before people mistook me for his wife. Raviel must have known my discomfort about it even though I didn’t say it out loud to him.“Wow, you have such a beautiful stepdaughter? Are you sure you’re not attracted to her, Rave?”A man teased Raviel while elbowing him lightly in the ribs. The man seemed to be a close friend of his since he was so bold to make such a lame jok
The surprise location was quite far from the resort. The drive took us about thirty minutes. This time I was sure that the surprise was something fancy. Raviel was dressed in a black suit, complete with a tie, and looked absolutely dashing. He always looks handsome no matter what he wears, but the aura he exuded tonight made him appear far more captivating than usual.“I almost got caught when I was going to the lobby. Mom suddenly came out of her suite, looking for you in a panic.”“I already told her that I was preparing something for her.”“She was happy as hell. Why did you choose a surprise place far from the resort?”“Because your mom has been to all the places around the resort. I wanted something different for the surprise this time. Isn’t this place nice?”I swept my gaze across the open space around me. This place was like a country club with a very large garden and flowers growing beautifully in various spots. I’m sure the flowers were taken care of with care like a mother
