After college let out, Lance didn't go home. He went to Van's house instead, because some days called for a friend before anything else, and let himself flop face-first onto Van's bed with all the drama of a man who'd survived a war.

"Vannnn," he groaned into the pillow.

Van didn't even look up from what he was doing. "What's up?"

"Did you know I got rejected four times..."

That got his attention. Van turned, one eyebrow raised, pink hair catching the afternoon light. "Now that's a record."

"Can you stop acting?"The question landed in the quiet room like a stone dropped into still water, and Lance froze."...Huh?""Sometimes you act like a person you're not," Elison said, watching him with an intensity that made Lance want to look anywhere else."I'm no—""Lance."Just his name. Nothing more. But it was enough to strip away whatever protest he'd been about to make. Lance let out a slow breath, the fight draining out of him all at once."...What do you expect me to do?" he finally said, voice quieter now. "We both are forced into this. And I don't want to be a bur—""You are not a burden to me."Lance blinked, caught off guard by how quickly the words came, how certain they sounded. But certainty had never made things simple between them."But you do think of me as a responsibility," he said."I do." Elison didn't flinch from it. "And I'm not going to lie about it." A pause, heavier than the one before. "I know you don't love me either.""I don't," Lance said — too fast,

The kitchen smelled faintly of scorched garlic and good intentions.Lance stood hunched over his phone, propped against the fruit bowl, following a cooking video with the fierce concentration of a man defusing a bomb. Flour dusted one sleeve. A wooden spoon sat forgotten in a pan that had, at some point, held aspirations of becoming a sauce. He didn't hear Elison come in until the voice drifted down the hallway — low, unhurried, ending a phone call with a simple *yeah, I'll be there* — followed by footsteps in the doorway."What are you doing?" Elison asked, leaning against the frame."Learning how to cook," Lance said, not looking up, jaw set with determination."You don't have to. I'll mak—""No." Lance cut him off, more gently than the word suggested. "Like you said — I don't want to rely on others either."Something shifted in Elison's expression. He didn't say anything right away. He only smiled — a real one, quiet and a little caught off guard — and let Lance keep burning garlic

The silence between them had teeth.Lance Ivory sat curled at the edge of the couch, arms wrapped around his knees, watching Elison from beneath lowered lashes. He hadn't meant to look so wounded. He hadn't meant to let the tears build the way they had, hot and unbidden, blurring the low lamplight into a wash of gold. But three days of unanswered calls, three days of silence swallowing every text he'd sent, had worn something raw in his chest, and now that Elison was finally here — finally *present* — Lance found he couldn't hide it anymore."...sorry," Elison murmured, the word dragged out of him like something reluctant.Lance lifted his gaze. His eyes were glassy, rimmed red, and when they met Elison's, something in the other man's expression cracked."...why are you ignoring me?" Lance asked, voice small.Elison didn't answer right away. He only stared — at the tears threatening to spill, at the way Lance's mouth trembled around the question — and something in him seemed to war wi

Shadow crouched in front of him, retrieving the scissors from among the wreckage of dead bodies scattered across the floor."What are you doing?" Elison asked, watching the blade catch what little light filtered through the ruined building."Can you shut up for a damn minute?" Shadow's voice was flat, edged with irritation. "So annoying."Elison fell silent, more out of curiosity than obedience.Without further comment, Shadow took hold of his injured arm and cut away the sleeve, exposing the wound beneath—the bullet still lodged where it had caught him earlier."...Does it hurt?" The question came out soft, almost gentle, though the voice beneath it stayed cold."...No." Elison's tone was matter-of-fact. "I've been hit so many times before. I don't feel the pain anymore."Shadow didn't respond to that. Instead, they dug the tip of the scissors into the wound with clinical precision and pulled the bullet free in one clean motion.Elison didn't so much as flinch. "Who are you?""You mi

Still in the abandoned building, Elison lingered a moment longer than he needed to, watching the dust drift through slats of broken light."Boss, should we leave?" his bodyguard asked, hovering near the door."Ye—" His phone rang before he could finish the word. "You can go. Leave my car."The bodyguard nodded and left without further question.Elison lit a cigarette, letting the smoke curl lazily upward before he finally picked up the call."Where are you?" Lance's voice came through immediately, tight with worry. "You haven't picked up any of my calls. Do you have any idea how scared I was? Are you okay?""I wa—" Elison started, then went still, cigarette forgotten between his fingers. Something had moved."...Hello?" Lance's voice cut through the silence again, uncertain now."I will call you back." Elison hung up without waiting for a response."Wh—" was all Lance managed to get out before the call cut dead."Who's there?" Elison's tone had gone glacial, gun already pulled from it

"In the car" was where it always started with Heinz—somewhere between the click of the seatbelt and the moment the engine turned over, he'd already have that smile on, the one that meant trouble."So, finally, we're alone, darling~" he said, easing the car onto the road with one hand draped lazily over the wheel."And my gun's loaded," Azhael replied flatly, not even looking up from where he was checking the chamber."Which one?"Azhael's head snapped up. "What do yo—" He caught himself a beat too late. "...ASSHOLE."Heinz chuckled, low and unbothered. "I'm eager for that ass hole.""Speechless." Azhael stared at him. "...You.""Me in you?""Omg, can you fucking stop?" Azhael's voice cracked with disbelief, half laughter, half genuine exasperation."Honey, I didn't even start." Heinz's grin widened, unrepentant. "But I promise—when I do, I won't stop." He dropped his voice into something low and deliberately filthy. "~""...Fuck you.""Will soon.""Stop your dirty talks.""I can." Hei
