AMELIA'S POV.

I got him feeling a bit lost and annoyed at how things had turned out today. I wasn't happy and that was because I wasn't sure if my reaction was the right thing earlier. When I was still busy thinking and questioning my fate, I got a call from Mia as usual.

“Hey Babe.” She sounded excited, more like she was excited to hear about how my day went. After all, it was my first time.

“Hey,” I replied with less energy.

“What happened? Why that tone? Did something happen?”

“I think I might be on a one-way ticket to losing my newly found job.” I went ahead and explained what exactly had happened to her as I cuddled next to my pillow.

“Wow,” Mia responded after a while and I heard a crunchy sound…it wasn't that hard to guess that she was eating something.

“Maybe you need to learn how to tone it down a little now, Amelia. That was terrible. One thing I know and that everyone knows about your boss is that he is strict and very mysterious. You need money more than anyone else in order to run your things smoothly so you have to do anything that you can to protect your job especially when it comes in as simple as this…”

I nodded multiple times, “Yeah…yeah, I get it. I have learned from my mistake. I just pray that he doesn't fire me by tomorrow.”

“I will join you in prayers, bestie,” Mia answered and after a few more gist, the discussion came to an end. I was tempted to call my sister but it was already late. She would likely be reading or sleeping, I told myself. So I went to freshen up and came back to go through the few things that I could do as much new duty at work.

After the hostile experience I had gotten, I knew immediately that not everyone welcomed my presence. I stretched my hand and picked up my journal. After flipping the pages open, I brought out my pen and wrote,

“I have to try and get through these people.”

But that wasn't going to be my aim for tomorrow. My aim for tomorrow would be to apologize to my boss. Speaking of my boss, he was absolutely mysterious and things were not adding up for me. I saw him that night, murdering someone and then chasing me almost like he was going to hunt and kill me. Suddenly, he was winking at me the next time we met. What was happening to me?

“Okay…okay, calm down, Amelia. Remember, even though you desperately need money, you shouldn't do anything that will tarnish your soul or bring trouble to you, or bring you to trouble. Both the boss and his employees are trouble so you should learn to stay away and just stick to the job you were assigned for. If you're confused, don't bother asking questions. You saw him kill someone that night, pretend like you didn't remember and that you haven't met him before. Play ignorance and that's the simplest key to living a trouble-free life.” I admonished myself while standing in front of the mirror. I felt relieved after reciting those words to myself multiple times already so I simply went to sleep. Tomorrow was going to be better.

Ah, I screamed as I jumped right on my feet immediately I saw my boss. Just like the other night when I was being chased, I started running again. There he was, behind me, my boss was behind me, chasing me hotly with a gun in his hand. I was sweating vigorously even though it was supposed to be a cold night. My heart was about to jump right out of my heart through my mouth. The more I was running, the weaker I became and I couldn't run anymore so I fell to the harsh ground instead and turned around to plead for my life.

“Who do you think you are, huh? How dare you speak to me anyhow?” He knelt in front of me, holding his gun and pointing it at my chin, and lifting it slowly so I could meet his deadly eyes that night.

I fearfully lifted my hands and pleaded that I be spared.

“I…I am sorry…”

“You should know by now that I don't take sorry as an answer. Whosoever offends me, I will deal with them in a terrible way.”

“Please…please, I have a sister…”

He stood up, paying deaf ears to my pleas and pointing the gun again at me,

“Have a fun journey to another life, my dearest Secretary.” He pulled the trigger and I ended up yelling.

My eyes snapped open and my breath became even heavier as I tried to understand what was happening to me. I quickly jumped up from the bed and looked around eagerly to see if I was safe. After seeing that I was safe, I sat down again to calm myself down.

“What kind of nonsensical dream is this?”

I looked at the time. It was almost 6:30 so I stood up to go and get prepared for the day's job.

“Nothing like that is going to happen. I am safe…totally safe. He isn't irrational. I had that dream because I was overthinking.” I said and I left the house after I was done.

My confidence kept shrinking the closer I was to the building and when I was finally standing, I was visibly sweating again.

“You can do this, Amelia.”

I whispered and walked into the building. I managed to greet those who were available to respond to my greeting. On getting to my boss’s office, I was prepared…not really but still better.

I saw Bonny.

Well, that was because she was approaching me.

Her face was as hard as an iron and I wondered what she had to say to me.

“Good morning, Bonny. About yesterday, I am…”

“I am sorry for what happened yesterday, Amelia. I hope you will find it in your heart to pardon me. I assure you that nothing like that will ever happen again.”

I was stunned.

The apology wasn't genuine enough but who was I to say either wise?

I nodded and tried to form a friendly bond with her but…

“It's okay, Bonny. It was simply a misunderstanding, I get…”

“Alright, have a nice day then.” She walked past me and right into the elevator, leaving both my words and I hanging.

It seemed like we wouldn't be bonding anytime soon. I checked my boss’s office but he wasn't there yet. That made me feel relieved. At least, I could settle down before he comes.

About ten minutes later, Bonny came knocking on my door,

“Mr Alessandro wants you in his office instantly.”

My heart dropped.

CHAPTER 116Laughter echoed through the vast dining room, soft music playing in the background as the aroma of rich Italian food mixed with the warmth of candlelight and clinking glasses. It was a rare moment—one filled with peace, love, and celebration.Mia had arrived that evening, dressed in a simple but elegant green dress that complimented her eyes. She hugged Amelia tightly, her heart full as she whispered, “You’re glowing.”Amelia smiled. “Thank you for coming.” "I somehow thought that I wasn't going to get invited though. I almost wrote your offense down." The two of them laughed and hugged each other again. "Alright ladies, listen up. Delivery is here." Tracy whistled as she walked in with Alessandro and Mike with drinks already in hand. The table was full of food, drinks, and an endless flow of laughter that only close bonds could create.“I still can’t believe this place,” Tracy said, spinning around with her glass of red wine. “I mean, wow. Is this a castle or wha

CHAPTER 115“What?” Tracy's voice shot up like a spark in a quiet room. “HE IS A MAFIA???”Her eyes widened with a blend of disbelief and horror as she stared at her sister, barely able to process what she had just heard. Amelia sat calmly on the edge of the bed, her expression soft but tired—like someone who had finally let go of a burden she’d carried for too long.Tracy jumped to her feet, pacing a short distance before turning sharply. “You can’t be serious right now. Are you telling me that the man you’re with—Alessandro—is part of the mafia? Like the actual mafia?”Amelia sighed, nodding slowly. “Yes. He is. But it’s not like that of the wicked Mafia. He’s different now, Tracy. You have to understand.”Tracy just blinked at her, her lips parted, but no words came out. When she finally found her voice, it came out in a bitter, breathless whisper. “Amelia... why didn’t you tell me this earlier? What if something had happened to you? What if you had died? How was I supposed to know

CHAPTER 114A full month had gone by.The storm had finally passed. The chaos, the close calls, the sleepless nights filled with fear and uncertainty… all of it now felt like a distant nightmare. The house was peaceful again. The sun poured into the kitchen like warm honey, slipping through the wide windows and stretching across the marble counters. But peace didn’t mean Alessandro’s mind was quiet. He stood before the stove, brows furrowed, eyes glued to the frying pan like it had personally offended him. A spatula in one hand, an open cookbook in the other, and a look of complete helplessness smeared across his gorgeous face.Amelia descended the stairs, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, her silk robe brushing lightly against her bare legs.“Good morning,” she said with a yawn. "Good morning, Princess." He replied. She froze halfway through the last step when she saw him. "What… are you doing?” she asked him. Alessandro straightened like a guilty schoolboy, dropping the spat

CHAPTER 113The news of Luca's arrest swept through the compound like wildfire, but nowhere did it hit harder than the heart of Isabelle. She stood in her lavish bedroom, dressed in a silk robe that had once made her feel powerful—now it felt like a flimsy veil barely holding back the storm inside her."What do you mean he's been arrested?!" she shrieked at one of the guards who stood stiff at the door, refusing to meet her blazing eyes."Ma'am... it was Alessandro. He ordered the arrest after the incident with the fire and—" "What about my father?" "He...we can't find him yet because we don't know...""What do you mean by you can't find him? Is this how you were trained? You betrayals! When things were going wild, why didn't you do anything, huh?! You guys are nothing but disappointments! Get the fuck out!" Isabelle threw the nearest glass vase against the wall, shattering it with a loud crash that echoed down the hall. She stormed back to her mirror, her chest heaving. Her

CHAPTER 112The flames started in the west wing.No one noticed at first. There was too much noise in the ballroom—guards restraining Luca, Isabelle sobbing, Vincent pacing with his hands clenched so tightly his knuckles were bloodless. The guests were herded out by confused ushers, their whispered speculations louder than their footsteps. But above them all, a scent had begun to creep in.Smoke.By the time Vincent realized it, it was already too late."What—what's that smell?"A scream came from the corridor. Then another.Someone burst into the ballroom, shouting, "Fire! The west wing is on fire!"Panic ignited faster than the flames.Chairs screeched back, people stampeded toward the exits, and guards scrambled to maintain control. He had kept control for so long, but even he could feel the edges slipping. Why had Alessandro agreed so easily? Why had Amelia gone so quiet?
