ELENA'S POV

I stood there, watching the man I once loved show his blind loyalty to Danielle, and I couldn’t help wondering how I had been so foolish for so long.

I had no wish to stay in their messy drama any longer. Just as I turned to leave, not bothering to grab my things, Danielle’s voice stopped me.

“I would never admit to something that isn’t my fault! Why can’t you trust me? Do you honestly believe I destroyed your marriage just to hurt you? I’ve barely spent any time with you both. I’m only here for a film project. Why are you accusing me?”

Although she spoke to the whole room, it was obvious her words were meant for me.

I almost laughed at how ridiculous this had become, one man blindly in love, one woman scheming for her own benefit, and Adrian burning with misplaced anger, ready to snap at me at any moment.

Adrian faced me, his voice sharp with hostility.

“If you didn’t plan this, then who did? Who else would target Danielle like this besides you?”

I sighed, already too exhausted for this nonsense, and looked straight at Danielle.

“If you’re so certain I did it, then where is your proof? Without it, you could be facing a false accusation lawsuit.”

Her eyes widened nervously as everyone’s gaze shifted to her. Even Adrian’s mother paused, doubt flickering across her expression.

After all, who would risk everything on a revenge scheme without solid proof? Tears filled Danielle’s eyes as she turned to Adrian in desperation.

“You trust me, don’t you? We were almost family once. You saw how hard I tried. How could you think I would do something like this?”

Adrian, still caught in his lingering feelings for her, softened. He had always carried guilt about what happened between them, and that regret kept him tied to her no matter how much it hurt me.

“I don’t believe you did this,” he said. “But we need evidence to prove your innocence. Do you remember where you were that day?”

Danielle’s face fell at his half-hearted defense, and tears streamed down her cheeks.

“So you still don’t believe me? Just because Elena said something, I’m suddenly the suspect now? Fine! If you want evidence, I’ll give it to you. I’ll die right now, and then you’ll see how much I care about proving my innocence!”

Before anyone could stop her, Danielle dashed toward the sharp edge of a hardwood cabinet. With the force of her movement, the impact could have been deadly.

Adrian’s face went pale, and even his mother let out a terrified scream. I stayed where I was, knowing Danielle was too calculated to actually hurt herself. This was just another one of her dramatic stunts.

But Adrian lunged forward, catching her wrist just before her head struck the corner. Still, her forehead scraped against the edge, leaving a cut that trickled blood down her face.

Danielle trembled, shaken by her near fall. Adrian wrapped his arms around her, his voice unsteady. “Danielle, what were you thinking? How could you be so careless?”

Her voice quivered as she whispered, “Now you believe me, right?”

Lost in the moment, Adrian nodded without hesitation. Clearly, she was innocent in his eyes. Who could doubt her after she had just put herself in danger to prove it?

Watching their ridiculous display, I almost laughed. It was a perfect performance worthy of applause.

But I had no intention of staying for the next act. I turned toward the door, ready to walk out for good, but Adrian’s voice stopped me.

“I said, stay right there!”

I paused, my patience completely gone, then turned back to face him. “What now? What do you want?”

“You shoved her! Don’t you have anything to say about it?” Adrian accused, his voice filled with anger.

I raised an eyebrow.

“Are you serious? I didn’t tell her to smash her own head into a cabinet. That was her choice. How is that my fault? If she had actually gone through with it, would you call me a murderer?”

I crossed my arms, utterly fed up.

“You really need to think before you speak. And if you’re accusing me of hurting her, where’s your evidence? If you don’t have any, the only thing I can do is call an ambulance for her.”

Without waiting for a response, I pulled out my phone and dialed emergency services. Adrian and his mother froze, panic flashing across their faces.

“The ambulance will take an hour to get here!” Adrian shouted, his voice filled with urgency. “She might not make it by then!”

I clenched my fists, frustration rising. “What exactly do you want me to do?” I snapped.

“Drive!” Adrian barked, lifting Danielle into his arms as he rushed toward the door.

I stood frozen for a moment, stunned by the chaos, until Adrian’s mother shoved me hard from behind.

“Move! If anything happens to her, I can’t wait to see how you explain yourself,” she sneered. “It’s always misfortune whenever you’re around.”

I glanced at her, catching the bitterness in her tone. It was obvious she didn’t truly care about Danielle. No one who genuinely cared would complain about their luck in a moment like this.

Shaking my head, I grabbed the car keys, a small part of me curious to see how this entire farce would unfold.

On the way to the hospital, Adrian was already on the phone, making sure Danielle received the best treatment available.

I had to stifle a laugh. It wasn’t even a serious injury.

Yet here he was, pulling every string he could for what was likely just a minor cut. If we had waited, it probably would have healed on its own.

When we finally arrived, doctors were already waiting at the entrance. They rushed Danielle inside as if it were a life-or-death emergency, lifting her onto a stretcher.

I raised an eyebrow, quietly entertained by the drama.

*ELENA*It was a new week, and I was starting it with a positive mindset. I had made up my mind before getting to work that I would be happy no matter what.Jacinta dragged me into picking out more clothes than I had planned to buy. Apparently, she wanted me to have enough clothes.“I don’t really need anything for myself, Elena. You know my wardrobe is already full,” Jacinta argued.“I know, but you should still pick out a few things . After all, you’re the one who dragged me all the way out here,” I countered.Nope, I want nothing to do with that idiot’s money,” Jacinta said firmly. Her words cut deeper than I expected, but I brushed it off. She knew I didn’t want Adrian’s money either, especially now that we are no longer married, yet she had insisted on putting it into my account. What hurt even more was how carelessly she said it, without remembering that it had been this very issue that had nearly torn us apart.”Jacinta looked at me and noticed the hurt I had been trying to hid

*DANIELLE*Danielle flung her purse onto the sofa as she and Sophie walked in."Did you hear the horrible things that rude little girl said to me?" Georgia seethed."She was so nasty," Sophie said. But Danielle couldn’t get the words out of her head. For some reason, it upset her deeply that Sophie could not even stand up for her or defend her the way Elena’s friend did. If Sophie had been as quick-witted as she was, this wouldn’t have been a lost battle. And to make matters worse, not only was Elena shopping in the same exact boutique as her, she also had the audacity to set her up with her friend."And we just stood there and did nothing," Danielle said, flopping into the chair. She didn’t want to point accusing fingers at Sophie, because now that she was doing everything she could to get into this family, Danielle knew she shouldn’t be throwing blame around. But at the same time, she refused to let herself be pushed around like they did to Elena."I had no idea Elena hung out with

*ELENA*Honestly, I don’t know why, but I allowed Jacinta to drag me all the way across town in the name of shopping.“We really shouldn’t be doing this,” I told Jacinta, who had taken out her bag and started applying makeup. “Gosh, Jac, in a taxi?” I said, laughing.Jacinta would never stop surprising me. She was always doing odd things, and whenever I pointed it out, she called it spontaneity.“A girl has to look pretty all the time,” Jacinta said defensively. I watched her apply mascara to her eyelashes and shook my head in disbelief. I also noticed that the driver was stealing glances at us mostly at Jacinta but I didn’t say a word. Jacinta never cared about how people saw her, and I had stopped worrying about it for her long ago. “You had your makeup done before we left your apartment, Jacinta, and you spent an hour on it!” I said.“Yes, but that was a few minutes ago. If I could refresh my makeup every second, believe me, I would,” Jacinta said as she applied lipstick.“We’re g

  • DEAR HUSBAND, I'M DONE   CHAPTER 016

*ELENA*I stood there, stunned to my core and frozen like ice. I honestly couldn’t believe what had just happened. Maybe Martin was wrong for thinking that Jacinta was not cold-hearted.Honestly, I had always known Jacinta as a soft-hearted person, which is why, when Martin said what he said, I took it upon myself to come here. Both Martin and I were wrong. A bitter reality that I might have to get accustomed to is that, in my absence, many things might have changed, including the behavior of people I once knew.My heart was shattered into a thousand pieces.Losing Adrian was painful enough, but losing my best friend was another thing entirely. Jacinta had always been the closest female presence in my life, and now, just when I needed her most, I had ruined things between us. I stood like a log for a few seconds before deciding to leave. My legs felt too heavy, and my heart ached, but standing there wouldn’t solve anything.I turned around and managed to get moving.“Are you just goi

  • DEAR HUSBAND, I'M DONE   CHAPTER 015

*ELENA*I sat curled up on the couch like a lonely kitten. Apart from the fight Jacinta and I had when I turned my back on everyone to marry Adrian, we had never fought.Back then, I didn’t really feel the impact of the fight, because things between Adrian and me were still good, and he was always by my side, so there was hardly any time to dwell on the fact that my best friend and I were not on good terms. But now, the weight of it is slowly crushing me.Ever since I divorced Adrian and came back home, Jacinta had been by my side the whole time. Even when I felt she was overdoing it, she remained constant in her care and affection. She helped me find my job and always stopped by either to check on me or take me out for lunch.Ah, it had only been twenty-four hours, and I already missed her this much."Are you going to sit here and sulk all day, or actually go talk things through with her?" Martin said as he sat beside me. He drew me closer and wrapped his arms around me.I shamelessl

  • DEAR HUSBAND, I'M DONE   CHAPTER 014

*ELENA*"I don’t understand what you’re talking about," I said to Adrian.I didn’t smell any trace of alcohol on him, and besides, he was hardly the drinking type, so I did not understand why he had shown up at my door acting strange and speaking like someone who was intoxicated. After the divorce, I had barely gone anywhere apart from the hospital."You enjoy playing these pretentious games, don’t you? Adrian said bitterly."I honestly have no idea what you’re talking about, and frankly, you’re about to annoy me with these ridiculous accusations!" I told him. Yes, I had swallowed and endured every bit of mistreatment from him and his mother not to mention his sister, Sophie but what I would not tolerate was him bringing that same rudeness and bullying into the place I now called home…"If you have nothing important to say, please leave," I said coldly. It was a good thing he hadn’t stepped into the living room today. Right now, all I wanted was for him to leave me alone."If you hone
