CHAPTER TWENTY: A SHIVER OF FEAR

For a minute, Purple stood rooted to the spot, unable to move or even think. The walls looked like it was going to crash on her, and she wished they would, anything to take the pain away. Her mouth suddenly felt bitter and dry, like she had eaten poison.

She refused to believe what she had just heard, it was possible to belly her mother's betrayals, to condone her lies, her secrets, but what she could never swallow was betrayal from a man she called a lover, a man she was ready to sacrifice everything for, a man that was supposed to treasure their relationship with his heart.

Her man had done nothing of that, and the pain was crippling enough to wreck her. It made her mad. Tears flowed from her eyes and she relied on it for comfort, for support, for the help Lucas could not provide.
