CALEB'S POV

The two arrogant, untouchable thorns in my side at the elite Alpha Academy, lounging in Louie’s modest wooden booth as if they owned the place.

Evander swirled a glass of water, a sickeningly smug smirk plastered across his handsome face. Lysander leaned back, his arms crossed over his chest, his dark eyes gleaming with predatory amusement.

Evander chuckled, a low, grating sound. "Who would have thought? A star student, a high-and-mighty Alpha from the elite academy, degrading himself as a pathetic little waiter in a dingy grease-trap."

"Careful, Evander," Lysander added smoothly, though his voice dripped with condescension. "At school, he struts around like a god walking among mortals. So proud. So untouchable. But look at him now... dripping in cheap dairy, bowing his head for pocket change."

I felt a low, dangerous snarl rumble deep in my chest. "Shut your mouths," I hissed, stepping away from the mess. "I work for my living. I'm not that kind of person, and you know it."

Lysander arched a dark brow, leaning forward. "Oh, aren't you? We heard the customers' offer, Caleb. Tell me... was their price too low? Is that why you turned them down, or do you just hold out for a higher bidder?"

Evander laughed outright, leaning his chin on his palm. "Maybe our pristine Alpha has expensive tastes. Come on, Caleb. We're offering financial transparency here. What’s your number?"

My fists clenched so tightly my knuckles turned white. Every instinct in my body screamed to lunge across the room, to wipe that arrogant smirk off Evander’s face with my bare fists. But I couldn't. Not here. Not in Louie’s café, he had given me a job when no one else would. I swallowed the bitter bile rising in my throat, turned my back on them, and started walking toward the back room.

I didn't even make it three steps.

A heavy hand clamped onto my shoulder, spinning me around with brutal, effortless strength. Before I could even draw breath, I was shoved backward, hard, my spine slamming against the empty table near the exit.

Evander and Lysander boxed me in, their towering Alpha frames caging me against the wood. The scent of cedar and expensive cologne suddenly suffocated the air around me.

Evander leaned in close, his breath hot against my ear, his voice a low, mocking purr. "What is your rate, Caleb? Name a price. We can pay for it."

Lysander brushed a sticky strand of hair away from my forehead, his touch cold and mocking. "And in exchange..." he whispered, his eyes flashing dangerously, "...you'll be our loyal lapdog. Every single time we snap our fingers."

"Back off! Stay away the hell from me!" I yelled then pushed them away.

Evander staggered for a second but he eventually find his footing. He and Lysander throw a satisfied smile before walking out of the cafe.

The café had long since closed when I finally untied my apron.

"See you tomorrow," Louie called as he locked the front door. He left earlier so he just heard what happened from the manager.

"If I'm still alive," I joked weakly.

He laughed. "I'll hold you to that."

I shoved my week's salary into my wallet before slipping it into the inner pocket of my jacket. It wasn't much, but it was enough to pay my tuition installment and buy personal stuff.

As I walked through the quiet neighborhood, I replayed the events of the day in my head.

Amelia, Evander, Lysander, Professor Durant and the two arrogant women. It felt as though the universe had decided to squeeze an entire month's worth of humiliation into a single day.

By the time I rounded the familiar shortcut corner leading home, it was already past nine, then I froze. Ten men.

They were exactly where they always were, leaning against cracked walls... Smoking... laughing and waiting, Dorian's gang.

Every family in the neighborhood knew them. They lived off fear, collecting "protection fees" from anyone unfortunate enough to cross this street after dark.

My pulse quickened... not tonight... Please, not tonight. I slowly took one step backward. Another... maybe they hadn't noticed me.

"Well, well..." Too late. Dorian straightened, shoving his cigarette beneath his boot. "Look who finally showed up."

The other men looked over, one smirked while another cracked his knuckles.

Dorian pointed at me. "Come here, Alpha."

I forced a calm smile. "I don't have any trouble with you."

"You don't need trouble." He stretched out his hand. "Just give us your wallet."

My fingers instinctively pressed against my jacket, that money wasn't just cash. It was next month's tuition.

My father's dream... my future. "I can't."

Dorian laughed. "Wrong answer."

The gang began closing in, ten against one. Even as an Alpha, I wasn't stupid enough to think I could fight them all.

Think, Caleb. Think. My eyes darted past them. An idea... I pointed behind Dorian. "Your boss is here."

Every single head turned. "What?"

That single heartbeat was all I needed. I bolted!

"That bastard!" one thud cursed.

"GET HIM!" Dorian shouted.

Footsteps exploded behind me. I sprinted through the narrow alley, my shoes slamming against uneven pavement.

"Run all you want!" Dorian's voice echoed behind me. "We'll break every bone in your body when we catch you!"

My lungs burned, The sound of pounding footsteps grew closer.

Faster... They were gaining, I burst out of the alley and onto the main road.

Empty.

Every house was dark, and every window shut.

"Help!" My voice echoed into the night. "Please!"

Nothing... No lights turned on, No doors opened... Nobody wanted Dorian's gang on their doorstep. I couldn't blame them because fear was contagious.

The footsteps were only a few meters behind now. I looked over my shoulder... too close.

Without thinking, I ran across the road. A deafening horn shattered the silence, my head snapped forward.

Blinding headlights... a black Maybach, heading straight toward me. Everything slowed.

Fuck! This is it... I threw my arms over my face.

EVANDER'S POVI pulled back slowly, dragging my lower lip against his just enough to leave him breathless, though his chest was still heaving against the ropes.Caleb’s eyes were bloodshot, pupils blown wide, glaring up at me with enough pure, unfiltered venom to melt steel. If looks could truly kill, Lysander and I would have been ash a dozen times over.I let out a low, amused hum, tracing the sharp angle of his jaw with the back of my knuckles. "Stop glaring, little alpha. You'll strain something, and we need you pliable.""I am going to castrate both of you with a rusty garden trowel," Caleb spat, his voice dropping into a harsh, trembling growl that only made the blood rush hotter to my groin."Ooh, feisty," I murmured, leaning down to press one last, lingering kiss to his burning cheek before straightening up. "Keep that fire. You're going to need it."I turned my back on his sputtering protests, pulling a heavy-duty pocket knife from my slacks and flicking it open with a sharp

CALEB'S POV The words hit my brain with the force of a freight train. Stepbrother. The sheer absurdity of it temporarily short-circuited my anger, leaving me staring at Evander like he had grown a second head. My jaw slackened, and for a split second, the frantic tug-of-war inside my chest paused. "Are you completely out of your cotton-picking minds?" I finally blurted out, the absurdity slicing right through the suffocating tension. I threw my weight against the ropes again, though it was entirely useless. "Victoria is marrying your father next month! We are going to be... legally speaking, family! What kind of sick, twisted, backwoods Alabama fantasy are you two cooking up right now?!" Lysander didn't even blink. He let out a low, dark chuckle that vibrated right through the mattress, his thumb tracing the curve of my cheekbone with a maddeningly gentle possessiveness. "Technically," Lysander murmured, his voice laced with a dangerous sort of amusement, "we share no blood. And

CALEB'S POVThe sharp sting of the hemp biting into my wrists was nothing compared to the white-hot rage roaring behind my temples. Tied up like a prized animal on a king-sized mattress in a fortress built by these two fucking lunatics... this wasn't just kidnapping... it was a psychological break and I was the fucking casualty.I planted my booted feet against the edge of the mattress and shoved upward with everything I had, trying to kick Lysander right in his arrogant chest. He didn't even flinch. He just caught my ankles mid-air with one massive, firm hand, his grip like a vice clamping down on bone."Stop thrashing, Caleb," Lysander rumbled, his voice a low, vibrating growl that vibrated straight through the soles of my feet. "You’re only making it harder on yourself. And trust me, you don't want to test how much more rough we can get.""Go to fucking hell!" I snarled, straining against the ropes until my muscles screamed. I jerked my head back up, locking eyes with Evander, who

EVANDER'S POVMy blood was practically boiling from anger, a roaring tide that drowned out every rational thought in my head.Fuck, I didn't even know why I was acting like this. Rationality had packed its bags and abandoned me the exact second Alpha Horton’s thick, arrogant voice suggested that his daughter, Chloe, should date Caleb."Fucking No!" My instincts say. A primal, feral fury had ignited in my chest, I wanted to punch everyone. I wanted to smash Alpha Horton’s smug teeth down his throat, I wanted to throttle my own father for even entertaining the circus, and, God help me, I wanted to shake Caleb until his teeth rattled for breathing the same air as another potential suitor. To derail the nightmare before it took root, I had blurted out the first weapon at hand... Caleb has a boyfriend. It was a desperate, ugly card to play, but desperate times called for absolute madness. Because the cold, hard truth that kept me awake at night... the truth Lysander and I shared like a da

CALEB'S POVThe heavy, suffocating silence that followed Evander’s words could have been sliced with a butter knife. Every eye on the green was pinned directly on me, waiting to see how I’d crawl out of the trap they had so neatly laid.Chloe tilted her head, her sharp, intelligent eyes darting from the seething Devereuxs back to me. She clearly sensed the sudden, and her curiosity was visibly piqued.Leaning in close, she lowered her voice so only I could hear. "Do you really have a boyfriend, Caleb?" she asked, a teasing arch to her perfectly sculpted brow.I offered her a tight, polite smile, leaning in just as close. "I do," I whispered back, pitching my voice so low it barely registered over the ambient hum of the country club. "Though, if we’re being completely honest, it’s just a fake arrangement to spite Evander and Lysander."Chloe’s eyes went wide, a genuine look of shock flashing across her face. Then, as the absurdity of it registered, a wicked, knowing grin spread across

CALEB'S POVHonestly, watching Augustus Devereux, his two miniature gods of sons... Evander and Lysander and Alpha Horton play golf was about as thrilling as watching paint peel in real-time.Rich, powerful men swinging expensive sticks at tiny white balls while trying to flex their dominance over one another? Hard pass. So, I had happily peeled away from the oppressive, suffocating atmosphere of the VIP lounge where my stepmother, Victoria, was probably busy plotting her social ascension.I found a sanctuary under the sprawling, lush green canopy of an ancient oak tree beside the golf course, far enough to escape their suffocating auras, yet close enough to stay out of trouble or so I thought.I was currently squatting in the grass, utterly fascinated by a fat, industrious little bee buzzing frantically around a wild yellow blossom, when a shadow fell over me."You look far too peaceful for a gathering this intensely boring," a crisp, melodious voice chimed in.I blinked, looking up
