VICTORIA'S POV

“How dare he push me away like that?”

I lashed out as I walked out

I left his room with my head held high, but inside I was boiling. The door clicked shut behind me, and I walked down the hallway to my own room.

Every step echoed with the anger I was barely holding back.

“How dare he look at me with that distant, cold expression when I was trying to be sweet and supportive?”

I couldn't help but feel like I had wasted my life just for some woman to come in from nowhere. Afte

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    THE SLEEP OVER

ALEXANDER'S POV I watched her laugh for real. Not the usual restrained smile she usually gave, nor the polite curve of her lips when she was trying to keep a line between us. This was different in a way that felt really pleasing. It was open and unguarded, the kind of sound that came from somewhere deeper than the usual professional courtesy or cautious gratitude. It gave me the shock how much her laughter affected me. I realized instantly, with a very strange pull somewhere down in my chest, that I had never heard her laugh like that before. My eyes moved round her face without permission, and picked up every tiny detail it could catch. The way her eyes softened when laughter reached them, the faint crease that appeared at the corner of her nose, the shape of her lips as she laughed more, fuller and warmer than I was used to seeing.I noticed even the slight tilt of her head as she tired to settle the sound. I couldn't look away even if I tried. It was a rare picture of Elena,

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    LOOSENED TENSION

ELENA'S POV “Hmmm…” The sigh came out louder than I had expected as I collapsed onto the edge of the nearest couch, my elbows placed on my knees and both hands pressed on my face. I could feel his eyes on me but I didn't look back at him. The relief of knowing who had taken those pictures should have put me at ease, settling this storm inside me. Instead, the feeling only shifted, getting deeper than unusual. My heart stayed worried, but I couldn't tell if it was because of the incident, or it was just something else all together. Could there be something more? But amidst the whole war in my head, I felt absolute relief deep down knowing that it was her, probably out of jealousy. It was quite understanding. I could only hope it wasn't bigger than what I thought. Alex moved slowly towards me and lowered himself into the same seat I sat on, but a little distant. He didn’t speak immediately, he just waited, the quiet presence of him steady and solid. “Are you okay?” He asked,

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    RED HANDED

ALEXANDER'S POV I watched as the twins finished their final bites of their meal, the tension leaving their faces after that one final chew. “Are you full?” I asked, wiping their mouths with the napkin set on the table. “I want chocolate,” Lila said. Elena's voice cut through with that sharp motherly tone. “Nope! You just had a plate full, no more…” I smiled, the little chuckle cutting her short. I looked directly at her. “One chocolate would do no harm.” She rolled her eyes in disbelief, shook her head and just remained quiet.Liam was already building some kind of fortress with the remaining bread rolls while Lila hummed and drew invisible patterns on the tablecloth with her finger. I turned to one of the house staff standing near the doorway. “Take them upstairs, they’re done. Get them each a bar of chocolate too.” The woman nodded and gently coaxed the children away from the table. They protested for half a second before the promise of more chocolate bars when they go

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    TRACKED

ELENA'S POV I turned to Alex, still in disbelief. “He's our daddy!” Lila said out loud with a wide grin on her face. Alex was already looking away, with a faint flush that had risen along the sharp line of his cheekbones. He didn't say a word. Instead, he reached for his tie and suit jacket which he had tossed on the other side of the couch earlier. He hung them on his shoulder and walked towards the stairs with carefully controlled steps. He didn't look back, not even once.I watched him walk until he disappeared up the staircase, before I let out a quiet breath that I had held in for a while.Lila rugged at my hand, dragging me to the chair. Liam had already climbed onto the sofa beside me, still half sleepy but smiling. I sat down between them, pulling both of them closer to my chest, and for a few minutes, I just simply held them close, breathing in their scent like I hadn't seen them in years.I kissed their heads and pressed them tightly, letting the solid weight of their

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    SHATTERED GLASSES

ELENA'S POV Long hours had passed by without either of us noticing. The sitting room had grown quieter as the afternoon light shifted across the floor. His men hadn't come in yet with any updates, and we still hadn't been offered any solid answers. My phone remained with them as it was needed for whatever investigations they had going. I was left with nothing to do, except listen to the only sound that was left, the soft tick of the clock and the occasional distant murmur of staff moving through the house. I sat with my hands wrapped around the same glass of water Maria had given me earlier, barely touched. My body felt heavy, the kind of exhaustion that settles after fear finally loosens its grip just enough to let you breathe. He glanced at me from across the coffee table. “Have you eaten anything today?” I shook my head. “I’m fine.” “You’re not fine.” His voice was calm but firm. “You haven’t eaten since this morning at the office, and even then you barely touched y

  • DOUBLE HEIR : A LOVE IN DISGUISE    FRAGILE SAFETY

ELENA'S POV We arrived at the estate and I jumped out of the car when it had just barely stopped. My legs stomped on the graveled ground really hard that I almost tripped. I didn't wait for Alex or anyone else, I just ran.The front doors were already open, and Maria stood just inside the foyer, wiping her hands on her apron. The expression on her face shifted from a smile mixed with mild surprise, to serious concern the moment she got a closer look on my face.“Is everything okay Miss Elena? You look….”“Where are they?” I cut her short without even a proper greeting. The words came out sharp, and I was almost breathless from the rush. “What?” She asked, looking confused. I walked closer to her, holding her in a frantic manner. “The twins… where are they?”Her eyes widened as she was both confused and surprised at the same time. “They're sleeping upstairs Miss Elena.”“Are you sure? Where? Take me to them now.”Her brows furrowed with more confusion. She looked past me, her ga
