RULE THIRTY EIGHT

Turns out the movies were right, dashing brooding men in suits always had baggage holding them back, with walls as high as Everest. It would take a patient person to pull these walls down.

Luckily for me, I am poster person for patient, I did search for him with only his fake name, and traced him all the way down here.

“What was the name of your firm?”

He stills from confusion, we were laid side by side, almost naked, he dropped a bombshell on me, he might have been thinking I would take it hard. But I was taking it hard but I couldn’t back down.

“The Nest.” He answers quietly,

“Nest?” I snicker at his choice of name.

I don’t see him but I could tell he was rolling his eyes, he had said before that he was terrible with names.

“What name would you rather it had?”

I hum, adjusting myself in his arms and the small space, his hold around me squeezes, I fight the smile on my face and it wins anyway, he can’t see me in the dark anyway.

“What were the core values?”

He takes a deep brea

I am shaking.Even with my eyes shut, I can tell that my entire body is shaking. Then I hear his whisper that brings my body to life. “Hey sleepyhead, it’s time to go.”His voice is deeper than usual, and I guess that’s why I can excuse waking up without further ado. The nap, since it was too short to be called an actual sleep, had been good, the best even. We made out before we slept, his kisses just the right amount of hungry and sweet, both of us content with what we received. Until he nuzzled me to sleep. He had gone to sleep right after I did, his perfect bed head sticking out everywhere now that he is stirring me awake.“We should have gone to bed sooner than we did.” I groan, needing more sleep.“Someone had been too excited to go to bed.”I roll my eyes at him, he too had been very excited last night, but sure, let’s all say it was just me. I push myself off the bed and unto his lap, he chuckles, and inhales, soaking up the last of our trip. “Twenty four is not enough.” I m

We both pause after that, the weight of his words sinking in. The sounds from the movie flutter through the speakers, the only sounds that could be heard from either of us. I turn towards the TV, my interest in the movie long gone, but there’s nothing else that seems appropriate. His words rang true, I had no idea what I was talking about, yet it hurt that he said them to me. We both don’t say anything until the movie is over, I had a feeling he was no longer interested in the movie himself. The food we hadn’t eaten had grown cold, my appetite dying out with the warmth. “You were right, I have no idea what I was saying.” I say when the silence pressed around us too much. The movie had finished long ago, and none of us moved from our spots, and I can feel the warmth from his body, yet I couldn’t lean into him. “I shouldn’t have said that.”“You were right, I should mind my business. And that is what I would do from now.”He sighs and pulls me to himself, and shamelessly, I melt into

He stares at me like I grew three heads. His movements are paused over the blankets he had been turning into something of a forte. I knew even before saying it that it was a bad idea, I shouldn’t have said anything, there’s nobody I have ever told that took the news well. “You don’t have to look at me like that.” I sigh, leaving him in room illuminated by the TV, and into the kitchenette, where the microwave beeped, the smell of freshly made popcorn filling the air. “There’s no way you’re actually serious. You hate Pepperoni on your pizza? Not pineapple?” he asks when I reenter the roo, he still has a look of shock on his face.I press my lips together, his shoulders slump, his eyes shake, and he struggles to get the word out. “Don’t tell me… you actually enjoy pineapple on your pizza?” he whispered the question in horror, his eyes beg me desperately. It is almost comical, his actions, I would burst out laughing if he didn’t grab my shoulders, spilling one or two from the popcor

“You said I was going to love it.” I pout.He chuckles before reaching up to kiss my mouth, I melt at his touch and when I lean in for more, he straightens. Raising a questioning brow at me. “Alec, I wanted to spend time with you, what were you thinking about?” he asks the question with wide eyed innocence that is pretentious and fake, but it makes me blush all the same. When he said I was going to love it, I expected some sort of… I don’t know… okay, I did know, I expected a replay of last night’s shenanigans. All I can think about is him inside of me again, the fullness of him, the way he filled me, stretched me. Goosebumps appear on my skin just thinking about it. “I also want to spend time with you.” I want to spend every single second of the day with you. I hold these thoughts inside of me, for some reason I am worried that this thought might be too much and it could quite possibly chase him away. He gives me a smile that melts my heart and the hard on i thought was never g

Turns out I should have taken my warning. The grounds-keeper's voice thunders behind us as I press harder on the pedal, and even at the top most speed, running away seemed like the better option. Christopher’s laugh bellows from beside me, loud and full of life. While my eyes keep straying behind me, waiting for the big man to appear.“I am glad you are having fun, where do I go next?” I say, alternating where I wanted to look, in front of us where a few guests were playing golf, or behind us, the direction of the big man.“Here, let me.” he says, switching our positions again. He had been driving the car, until he couldn’t take the staring, people were ogling his body and it was too much for him, I wouldn’t blame him, a few of them asked for his number already, and some went as far as throwing cash at him. He had rolled his eyes a lot until he asked me to take over the wheel for a while he wore another shirt. “As much as I didn’t appreciate others looking at you, I was enjoying th

“This is a crappy story for a day like today.” he says, his mouth forming a grim line, his eyes look away from mine and fixes upwards, at the blue sky.“I shouldn’t have asked.” I tell him. I know he only told me because he knew more about me than I knew about him, he didn’t want to, but he had to if he wanted to level the playing field, and that’s not how I wanted it go. I hope he would feel safe enough with me to tell me instead of this. He shrugs, saying nothing.“That’s why you don’t draw anymore.” I note.He remains quiet. My own mind churns, working over time, looking for a way to handle this situation. He never intended to kill people, yet it happened, and it wasn’t something that went away easily. It was the reason he closed his company obviously, yet there was no story like this online. “Are there any more mysteries about you?”He turns to me with a small smile, I fear I may have ruined the mood, he had a huge smile before I asked, and now what he was offering was sad.

The car rolled to a stop just when I am still feeling high, from the flowers, and not just the flowers, but what they meant, he was acknowledging my efforts. I am certain there is nothing that can top this, the smile on my face might split it open, and I wouldn’t even mind. Warm air hits my face, making me turn to him, he stood outside the door, an even warmer smile on his face, that makes me swoon. I bite my mouth, my eyes going to his outstretched hand. “Come on, we have a lot to do with not enough time.”With a warm, giggly feeling in my gut, I put my hand in his, the hand that wasn’t holding the bouquet, it is quite difficult to hold it in one hand, it doesn’t matter though, when there is will, there is a way. Our hands meet and I swear we are transported back in time, where he had none of the real world struggles and we were just two men that could not stop looking at each other. Our eyes meet and my breath is taken away again. How can someone’s eyes look that good? He sm

When the awkward silence stretched for a second too long-- he asked me to go somewhere with him, I called it a date. I only realized after I had asked the question.-- I pick up my right hand with my left, folding all fingers except the thumb and pinkie, bringing it to my ears, I pretend I am making a phone call. “Hey boss, I don’t think I can make it to work today.” I fake a cough, and look over at him as he drove, waiting for his response. With a straight face, he picks up his own make believe phone, I suppress a grin as I watched him. “Mr. Sanchez, is that the sound of traffic I hear?”My brows jump into my hair, there was indeed a plethora of sounds all around us, people hurried to get to work, and we are on the highway, leaving Kinsley, it has been a while since I saw the good bye from Kinsley sign, and it brought back a lot of memories. The nervousness I felt coming into the town, the unfamiliar faces, and feelings, and it’s like a dream but last night did happen. “Uh.. yeah,

My heart slowed in my chest, fury bubbled in my veins.“Why do you always do that? I thought I would let it pass by me quietly, wait for you to come around, I don’t want to think of it as misplaced faith. Every time I think I have gotten close to you, you do a whole 180. First you ran away from me in the middle of the night at the resort, and when I manage to find you, you keep taking one step forward and two steps back, I have feelings too and you seem intent on stomping all over that. Oh, and let’s not forget about how you sleep next to me at night and disappear before morning.” I realize I am panting when my speech is done, somehow even managing to get into a kneeling position, my fists tight by my side.He looks at me, then slowly, he looks at the windows, I follow his line of sight, “I just meant, it’s already morning, we can’t do it again, in as much as I am desperate to do you again, however you have work.”Oh. Immediately I turn red from embarrassment. He is right, the su
