Lena rushed down the elevator with Jamie and Alexander at her sides. Her heartbeat hammered so violently she felt dizzy. She kept replaying Jamie’s words:

“Someone broke into your office.”

Her office.

Her tiny desk on the 12th floor.

Her safe space — invaded.

The hallway outside the Finance department was crowded with people whispering. They parted silently as Alexander stormed through, his presence turning the air electric.

Sarah ran up the moment they arrived.

“Oh my God, Lena,” she breathed. “I’m so sorry. We tried to stop people from touching anything.”

Lena’s knees felt weak. “What… what happened?”

Sarah exchanged a quick glance with Jamie, then pointed toward Lena’s desk.

“See for yourself.”

Lena stepped forward — and froze.

Her desk drawers were pulled open, files dumped on the floor. Her coffee mug lay shattered, pieces scattered like broken teeth. Papers were ripped. Her plant was crushed on the carpet.

But none of that terrified her.

What terrified her was the item placed neatly in the center of her desk.

A single black envelope.

Her name written on it in the same sharp, spiked handwriting as the first note.

Lena’s breath hitched. “Oh God…”

Alexander stepped in front of her protectively. “Don’t touch anything.”

He put on latex gloves handed by a nearby security guard and picked up the envelope.

Inside was a single sheet of paper.

A message.

“You should have stayed away from him.”

Underneath it…

a photo.

Lena’s heart stopped.

It was a picture of her — taken yesterday — on the rooftop with Alexander.

Captured from a distance, grainy but unmistakable.

Her standing close to him.

His hand near her waist.

“Who took this?” Lena whispered, horror crawling up her spine.

Jamie covered her mouth with her hand. Sarah stepped back.

Alexander stared at the photo like it was a weapon.

His voice dropped into something terrifying.

“Someone is stalking you.”

The room went silent.

Jamie swallowed. “Mr. Knight… the Board will need to—”

“The Board can go to hell,” Alexander snapped, loud enough for everyone to hear.

Jamie froze. Sarah gasped.

Even the security guard stiffened.

Lena had never heard Alexander raise his voice like that — not even in meetings. The rage vibrating off him was barely contained, like he was seconds away from tearing the building apart.

He took a shaking breath, trying to steady himself.

“We are filing a police report,” he said sharply. “Right now.”

Jamie hesitated. “Alexander… the Board won’t like—”

“I don’t care what they like!” he roared.

The entire floor went silent.

Lena stepped toward him. “Alex… please. Calm down.”

He turned to her, his expression softening instantly — but his hands were trembling.

“I’m not losing you,” he whispered, voice cracking. “I don’t care what this costs. I won’t let anyone target you.”

Before she could respond, a slow clap echoed from behind them.

Dylan.

He leaned against a cubicle wall, smirking.

“Well, this is dramatic,” he drawled. “Break-ins? Stalking? Mr. Knight, you really know how to pick a woman who attracts trouble.”

Alexander’s eyes darkened dangerously. “Leave. Now.”

Dylan sauntered forward, ignoring the warning. “Actually, this seems like something HR should know about. After all… it proves you two were alone together. Maybe I should—”

Alexander grabbed him by the collar.

Gasps erupted across the floor.

Lena’s heart stopped. “Alex, no!”

Alexander pulled Dylan close, his voice deadly calm.

“You threaten her again,” he said softly, “and I will end you.”

Dylan swallowed hard, bravado cracking. “You’re… making this worse.”

Jamie hurried over. “Please! Both of you — stop!”

Alexander released Dylan with a shove. Dylan stumbled back, face pale, shock replacing his smirk.

“This isn’t over,” Dylan muttered before retreating quickly.

Alexander turned to Lena again, face full of anguish.

“I’m sorry,” he whispered. “I shouldn’t have—”

“It’s okay,” she said shakily. “I just… I’m scared.”

He cupped her cheek gently, forgetting the crowd around them. “I’m here. I’m not going anywhere.”

Jamie cleared her throat. “We need to report this properly. And… the Board will definitely call another meeting.”

Alexander didn’t look away from Lena. “Let them.”

He took her hand.

This time, he didn’t hide it.

“Come with me,” he said quietly. “We’re going to the police. Now.”

Lena nodded, her body trembling.

She followed him toward the elevator.

But as the doors closed behind them, she couldn’t shake the truth:

This wasn’t just office gossip anymore.

Someone out there was watching her —

tracking her —

and warning her to stay away from Alexander.

The real danger had only just begun.

The broken window let in a harsh blast of cold night air. Lena staggered back, gripping the edge of the wall as shards of glass crackled beneath her feet. Alexander stood at the shattered frame, chest rising and falling like he was holding back a scream.Mrs. Ward pulled the curtains closed, sealing off the view of the darkness outside.“Alexander,” she said sharply, “he escaped. There’s no catching him in the forest right now.”Alexander didn’t move. His fists were clenched so tightly his knuckles had gone completely white. He’s been preparing for this moment his entire life.”“That doesn’t make it safe,” Lena said, voice trembling. “Someone opened the gate. Someone is already inside the estate.”Mrs. Ward’s expression tightened, but she kept her voice calm. “Which is why we need to stay exactly where we are.”Lena forced a shaky breath. “He said to stay with you. So… so I’ll stay. I promise.”Mrs. Ward nodded once, approvingly. “Good girl. Come.”She led Lena back into the surveillance room. The monitors flickered with night-vision feeds—grainy black-and-green images of the grounds. Trees swayed. Grass rippled in shadows. Nothing moved. Nothing breathed. And yet…Lena’s skin crawled with

Please.”Alexander exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair before turning to her.“That symbol,” he said quietly, “is from a group my father once worked with. A group he should have stayed away from.”Lena’s pulse quickened. “A group? What kind of group?”Mrs. Ward stepped in gently, sensing Alexander’s hesitation.“They call themselves the Split Circle,” she said. “A network of wealthy, powerful individuals—businessmen, politicians, investors—who operate in the shadows.
