I drifted over and sat down. There was sliced cantaloupe on the table. Sarah turned to Heidi who was still cooking away on her plastic range.

"OK, Heidi, this one's yours. You want ham and cheese and tomato like your mom?" It was a nice try, but her face scrunched up at the tomato, so Sarah left it out. I'd probably be able to get her to eat some cantaloupe, so I started to cut up a slice. A few minutes later Sarah had finished her own omelet and we were all seated around the kitchen table.

"So, what's on tap for you guys today? Anything exciting?" Sarah looked at me over the rim of her coffee mug.

I pulled up the weather app on my phone. It was supposed to be eighty-three degrees and sunny. It'd be a shame to waste today inside. "I don't know. It's supposed to be nice. Any ideas?"

Sarah shrugged. "How about a picnic?"

Heidi's face lit up at the suggestion. "Please, mommy?"

I grinned. "Sure, sounds great."
