Chapter 164

Author: Tightrope
Jayson would not allow anyone to spread anything that could potentially harm Nancy's reputation before he could officially marry her. After all, loving someone meant doing what was best for that person at all times.

Lucas stared at Jayson with an enigmatic look on his face. "I'll be looking forward to receiving the invitation to your wedding, Mr. Larkin."

Jayson's brows arched. Still, his expression remained pretty much the same.

While making sure the conversation did not end on an awkward note, Matt chuckled and replied, "Well, of course!"

Ariel got up. She had no interest in watching their seemingly warm, amicable exchange anymore. Janice followed behind her.

Ariel checked the time and realized there was around half an hour left until the event ended. She only had that amount of time left to look for Fergus.

"Jan, I'm going to check the guest list. Can you check over there?

Janice agreed, "Sure."

Ariel tried to ask a staff member if there was a guest named Fergus on their gue

Ariel reckoned Jayson was probably with Nancy at the moment.Normally, Ariel would not care at all no matter how long or how often Jayson wanted to spend his time with Nancy. However, today…She had no choice but to come up with a plan.Betty was very pleased to see Ariel dropping by the manor. She held Ariel's hand and asked her how she was doing lately. Soon enough, Betty brought up questions relating to Jayson."How come he's not here with you? What's been keeping Jayson so busy lately?"Ariel dropped her gaze. "I'm not sure."Feeling dissatisfied, Betty had someone fetch her phone and called Jayson. This time, Jayson picked up the phone. It seemed like he had deliberately ignored Ariel's calls earlier.Betty said sternly, "It's already well past 8:00 pm. Are you not coming back for dinner?"Ariel had no idea what Jayson said, but Betty's expression softened a little after hearing his reply. When she ended the call, Betty said, "Let's not wait for him. He can sort out his

Ariel stopped breathing for a second. Then, she frowned and sent Lucas a glare. She glanced at the expressionless Jayson next. He seemed completely uninterested in what was going on between Ariel and Lucas.Earlier, Ariel noticed that Jayson had frowned almost unnoticeably when Lucas mentioned the word "wife".Jayson's phone rang again before he could say anything. He glanced at the screen and saw that it was a call from Nancy. His expression softened visibly as he answered the phone. "Mhm… I'm heading back inside now."It was impossible for Ariel not to notice the changes in Jayson's facial expression and voice tone.Jayson did not answer Lucas' question. Instead, he nodded at Lucas, glanced at Ariel, and strode off. He acted as though Ariel was completely unrelated to him in any way.Ariel could tell without a doubt that the caller was Nancy. Nancy was the only person who could make Jayson show his soft, vulnerable side like earlier.Ariel slowly averted her gaze. As the perso

Ariel was honestly quite surprised. She had not expected that the highlight of tonight's event was the announcement of Lucas and Wendy's engagement. It somewhat explained why Wendy had asked her to stay around until the end earlier. Ariel wondered if Wendy had considered her as Lucas' younger sister and that she was hoping Ariel would give them her blessings.Lucas stood on the stage and looked down. Despite the dim lights, he found Ariel, who was sitting in a dark corner of the second row.Ariel was probably quite shocked to hear the news. There was a flash of bewilderment on her face. Yet, it happened for only a split second. Then, those emotions seemed to vanish the next instant.Lucas fixed his gaze on her. His eyes reflected the various emotions surging through him.Yet, Ariel merely stared at him expressionlessly without showing any other reactions. In the end, Lucas smiled nonchalantly and pulled Wendy closer to him."We've decided to hold tonight's charity auction in hop

Jayson stared at Ariel for about two seconds before averting his gaze. Then, he turned his head and went up the stage with Nancy.Ariel was no longer looking in the direction of the stage. She picked up her glass and drank her juice. On the second floor, Zach and Liam had not missed a single moment of what transpired earlier.Zach leaned back against the couch and chuckled. "How amusing! That lady, Ariel Walker, doesn't seem to know her place. Earlier, she competed with Ms. Stanton for the ring during the auction. Then, she tried to compete with her for the chance to perform on stage."I can literally see her eagerness to prove that she's much better than all the other ladies!"He suddenly recalled the time at the art exhibition when Frederick had told him the gossip about Ariel's husband. Back then, Nancy had even helped Ariel by stopping them from speaking about that gossip. At the very least, Nancy was not someone who was so obsessed with proving she was more superior to other

As soon as Nancy said that, people looked toward Jayson, who remained calm and composed, with shock and delight. All of them would have the honor of watching him perform on stage if Jayson were to agree to Nancy's request.Even Ariel had a look of bewilderment on her face as she directed her gaze to Jayson. She stared at his side profile. Inwardly, she felt like she hardly knew this person. They had been married for several years, yet Ariel had no idea that Jayson could play the piano, even the piano four hands. Jayson had never shown his true self to her.Janice's expression hardened. She straightened her back and said hesitantly, "Jayson won't agree to it, right? If he does, it'll be the same as him helping Nancy to crush and humiliate you…"Ariel pressed her lips together and gazed at the pair calmly.Nancy turned around and looked at the man before her with a gentle gaze. She held her hand out toward Jayson."To be able to help build more schools for the children who need the
