Chapter 559

Author: Tightrope
"Fine," Ariel replied.

Now that Betty knew about her past and identity, there was no brushing her off anymore.

She hung up without asking Jayson to pick her up. She felt that that kind of display would only make things awkward for both of them.

After finishing work, Ariel checked the time and finally drove toward Crescent Point around 7:00 pm.

It was the start of the rainy season. Halfway there, the sky opened up. The air carried the damp smell of earth and rain.

When she arrived, she got out of the car under an umbrella and walked up to the door, only to realize she no longer had the code.

Ever since Jayson bought the house back, the door code had been changed.

But if she rang the bell, Betty might notice something was off.

Ariel frowned slightly.

Just as she was considering her options, footsteps approached from behind. Through the damp air came a faint scent of fir. Before she could turn, the person behind her took her hand and pressed her finger against the scanner.

Ariel couldn't help but feel Jayson's decision was a bit rash. Her ring had been a sky-high auction piece, yet his own had been hurriedly made?Somehow, she suddenly wanted to know what kind of state Jayson had been in back then. He had put so much thought into everything behind the scenes.Jayson wasn't the type to display his affection openly. When he cared for someone, he did it without counting costs or expecting anything in return. The deeper she thought about it, the more it seemed that he had carefully orchestrated everything between them. She even wondered if he hadn't done all those things quietly behind her back, would they have had such a deep connection at all?"You sure know how to bottle things up." Ariel stepped closer and looked up at his precise features with an intent gaze.Caught in her stare, Jayson held his gaze without flinching for a moment. "Do you want me to take credit? Is it too late now?"Ariel smiled faintly, but she didn't respond. She stepped forw

Wade's brow furrowed tighter. "Alright, you handle it first."After hanging up, he looked up and immediately caught sight of Janice's stiff expression. He pressed his lips together for a moment, then said, "Sorry, I have something urgent. I've reserved a table. You can call your friends to come and keep you company."Before Janice could even process it, Wade had buckled his seatbelt and floored the accelerator. The car sped off, kicking up a cloud of dust.Janice stared after him for a long moment. Finally, she blinked, then shrugged as if to comfort herself. "Fine, then."She looked around the restaurant, feeling a little lost. Her stomach growled. She thought that since she was here anyway, why make things hard for herself? After taking a deep breath, she found her seat and ordered a few dishes. They looked appealing, but after tasting them, she found them utterly bland.Janice's straight back suddenly seemed to deflate. Her cheeks puffed with a piece of foie gras in her mout

Wade's words hung in the air.The flicker of light in Janice's eyes dimmed, and her throat suddenly felt tight. She couldn't quite name the feeling. Nothing seemed wrong, yet everything pricked at her chest, sharp and insistent. She hadn't expected Wade to say the words "lost it" so casually, as if the good luck charm didn't matter at all.But he knew how she had gone through all that effort to get him the charm.Back then, Wade had looked at her with a mix of helplessness and exasperation. Patting her head, he asked, "Are you serious? Will this thing even work? Why go to all this trouble?"Janice had done it willingly, so she replied proudly, "This is my way of showing I care. If the heavens see my sincerity, they'll watch over you and keep you safe."She even remembered the softness in his eyes back then. Even though he wasn't someone who easily expressed his emotions, she had felt a subtle difference at that time. Now, her good luck charm was gone.Janice stared at the rabbi

Janice understood the meaning behind Alicia's words immediately. Her eyes dimmed slightly, and a strange bittersweet feeling stirred inside her.Wade glanced at Alicia. "How are you getting home?"Alicia smiled. "The driver's waiting. He can take me home. Don't worry."Ariel knew then that Wade would be spending the evening with Janice. She looked over at Janice, who quietly clenched her fists to calm herself.Ariel felt a sudden pang of sympathy. She reached out and ruffled Janice's hair, whispering, "Figure out how you feel on your own. You two can talk tonight."Only Janice could feel whether Wade was suitable for her.Even if Ariel, as an onlooker, could tell that Wade might not be all that enthusiastic, Janice's feelings were real. It wasn't something that could be dismissed with a few words.Janice didn't quite understand.Chad stepped forward. When he noticed the hope in Janice's expression, his gaze darkened as he said, "Call me if anything comes up, okay?"Janice wave

Elsie focused on the ring on Ariel's hand and said, "I remember years ago, maybe four years back, I went to an auction in Fiorvell with my dad. This ring was the final highlight of the auction."Ariel immediately glanced at Jayson sitting beside her. He met her gaze calmly.Elsie continued, "I loved it at the time, so I remembered many people wanted it. I think the final price was… 110 million dollars."Ariel almost choked. She looked down at the ring on her hand, then back at Jayson, stunned. How much was it?"This ring has quite a history," Elsie went on. "It's a one-of-a-kind piece by a top Fleubian jeweler from a century ago. It was insanely expensive. At the auction, they said it had ended up in a museum."The jeweler had designed it in the name of love. It's incredibly meaningful, and a few versions of the story circulated widely back then. It was only a few years ago that it was brought out again, renamed 'Devotion' for auction, and fetched that astronomical price.Elsie

Elsie, ever blunt, snorted. "So now you're jealous and fighting with me for Ariel? Why not care about your fiance sitting next to another woman?"That was a deadly verbal chokehold.Janice froze instantly. Her expression stiffened.Elsie realized too late that her mouth had run ahead of her brain. Panic written all over her face, she glanced between Ariel and Janice. "Hey, I didn't mean it…"She had just been watching from the side, picking up on some vibes. When she heard Alicia say "fiancee", she had naturally connected the dots.Even Chad, who hadn't said a word about any of this, paused for a moment. His gaze landed on Janice.Thankfully, Janice was only ever half-baked at everything except pretending to stay calm. She waved her hand. "It's no big deal."Ariel pressed her lips together and silently raised her gaze toward Alicia and Wade. This time, the discussion focused on several aspects of the aircraft's performance. They spent nearly half an hour going over the next st
