Zara's POV

I placed my hand on my racing chest, trying to steady my breath. My heart pounded against my ribs, my pulse erratic as I leaned against the desk. I still couldn't believe it—standing up to Cassius these days like I had a death wish. A Mafia Lord at that. Ruthless, dangerous, feared by everyone.

But now that I thought about it... the only ruthless part of him was the killing. Apart from that, he seemed almost—normal. Cool, even. But nothing, absolutely nothing, could change the fact that he was a monster.

Damn it.

I hadn't been doing my work these days. My mission. The entire reason I was here. I was in his office, but what had I done so far? Nothing. I should have planted a tracker by now, bugged his devices—something. But would he even talk about his Mafia business in his own workplace?

Probably not.

But I had never been this distracted on any mission before. Ever. What the hell was wrong with me?
