Chapter 24

Nicholas spends most of his time thinking about Charlotte. She meant a lot to him. She was one of those who refused to betray him. She took her stand by following what was right. More importantly, Nicholas saw her as an assistant; someone who could stand with him in times of war; just like Klein. He is in the library and he is seated near a window. With his eyes looking at the sky, he thinks he can find an answer. “Is Charlotte dead or lost?” he thought to himself. He picks up a book and buries his face in it as he searches for ways to get out of the TRIBES world. He continues his search but can’t find anything. He becomes nervous and tears the pages one after the other. He is about to tear off the last page; then I come in. I walk up to him and sit next to him. I brush his hair with my fingers. We have both lost important people in our lives.
