Chapter 23

The doctor comes out of a room with the result of the autopsy. It reads that Josh was bitten by a wild animal. We understand what happened and we all look at one another.

“I must avenge my friend. She must be preparing to use the portal by now”, I said as I stood up from the chair.

“You need to calm down”, Nicholas said, holding my hands. “You should leave that to us”.

I shake his hand off and breathe angrily. Everyone is looking at me; they know I am really angry. I just lost a friend, and I am ready to risk anything to avenge him. My face turns red as I squat, cover my face with my hands, and begin to cry. “I am going with you”. Nicholas stands up and walks towards I know he is about to tell him no, but I speak first: “Don’t try to stop me”, I say while looking at him. “I am going with you”.

I watch as Nicholas looks at Klein who gives him a sign of approval. With or without his sign, I am going. We plan to hide ourselves close to where Mrs Lazarus will use magic to open the portal
