"Mommy, the screen smiled at me again."

Ari’s tiny voice cut through the hum of servers and tension like a razor.

Eva froze, one hand still holding her coffee, the other hovering over her tablet. Her stomach dropped.

"What did you say, sweetheart?" she asked, turning slowly toward her daughter.

Ari, in her pajamas with the tiny unicorns, pointed at the wall screen in the lounge.

“It said my name. Then it smiled. But the smile was all wrong.”

Eva didn’t answer. She couldn’t. Her heart was already thudding in her ears.

In Thorne Tower, where everything was supposed to be secured, fire-walled, encrypted, quantum-shielded, things were beginning to slip. Not violently. Not loudly. But like water through cracks in stone.

The Resonants had returned.

Not with armies. Not with bullets.

With whispers.

Images flashed across secure screens that shouldn’t even be connected to outside networks. Messages appeared and vanished in the blink of an eye.

For Lucian, one screen showed a photo of his late

"You ever see symbols in the air that aren't really there?" Ari whispered.Everyone in the room went still. Jason looked up from the screen. Eva froze mid-sip of her coffee. Ben’s fingers hovered over his keyboard."What kind of symbols?" Jason asked carefully.Ari pressed her fingers against her temples. “Like… spirals and triangles made of light. They shimmer, then vanish. They only show up when I’m alone, or quiet. It’s like they’re trying to… talk to me.”Silence stretched tight across the war room.Izzy stepped forward, her tablet already syncing with Ari’s neural scan. “It’s happening more often, isn’t it?” she said quietly.Ari nodded. “Every night now. And it hurts. Not physically. But like… something is being pulled out of me, or written into me. I don’t know how else to explain it.”Ben muttered, “That’s not visual hallucination. That’s resonance encoding.”“Exactly,” Izzy confirmed. “It’s not a glitch. Someone or something is programming her.”Lucian’s jaw clenched. He turn

"She said it again last night," Lucian said, his voice low and shaking."Said what?" Eva asked, already bracing herself. They were sitting in the kitchen, the sun just beginning to rise through the frosted glass. Coffee steamed between them. Lucian's hands were wrapped tightly around his cup, knuckles white.“The phrase. The same one. ‘The gate cannot hold if the blood remembers.’”Eva blinked. “That’s… exactly what was in the journal, isn’t it?”Lucian nodded slowly. “Word for word. Ari said it in her sleep. But it wasn’t her voice.”Eva swallowed hard. A chill ran down her spine.Ari’s nightmares had grown worse over the past week. The once cheerful, curious girl now woke up screaming, soaked in sweat, speaking in strange tongues, fragments that sounded like incantations from another age. Words no child should know.Lucian had started sleeping on the floor outside her room. He barely rested. He barely ate. And when he did sleep, it was with one eye open, afraid something or someone

The kiss had changed everything. Not because it was new. But because it reminded them both what was already there unshakable, real, and unbreakable.Eva and Lucian didn’t need to talk about it. They just moved forward as one. There was no more hesitation. No more doubt. Whatever Julian might have been in the past, he wasn’t part of their future.Julian knew it too. The fire in his eyes faded, replaced by something quieter, sadder. He still visited Ari, still made her laugh, but the playful charm with Eva was gone. He didn’t linger in the hallways anymore. He didn’t wait for late-night talks or long looks. He gave Eva space. And Lucian his silence. The love triangle was over. Lines had been drawn, and everyone knew where they stood. But just as their hearts began to steady, the world around them started to crack.“Lucian! Eva! You need to see this now!” Izzy’s voice rang through the intercom, sharp and urgent. They both rushed into the control room, where Izzy stood frozen, her eyes wi

The tension in the penthouse living room could’ve split the walls apart.Julian had left quietly after Lucian walked in and caught his hand on Eva’s arm. No angry words. No raised voices. Just thick, suffocating silence that clung to everything long after the door shut behind him.Lucian stood still by the grand piano, jaw tight, hands clenched. His eyes stayed locked on Eva like she was the only thing in the world that mattered and the one thing he could lose.Eva’s heart pounded. Her throat was dry. But she didn’t back away. She broke the silence first. “What was that, Lucian?”He moved toward her, slow and steady, until there was barely a breath between them.“What did you think it was?” His voice was low and rough, nothing like his usual calm control. There was something darker in it now. Possessive. Unfiltered.“He’s your brother,” she said, though her voice shook a little.Lucian's eyes never left hers. “And you’re mine.”The words sent a jolt through her. Not the kind of fear t

Eva wasn’t sure when it started maybe the second Julian Thorne walked through the penthouse doors again. He didn’t knock. He never did. He just strolled in like he belonged, his smile lighting up the room, his charm spilling out in all directions like a scent you couldn’t ignore. At first, it was harmless.“Morning, sunshine,” he said to Izzy one day, handing her a fancy croissant and kissing the top of her head like a long-lost older brother.“You flirt with the whole building yet?” she teased, taking the pastry.“Only the doorman. He’s jealous already,” Julian replied with a wink. That was Julian, he was casual, magnetic, and suddenly everywhere. He joked with the security guys, helped Ari with her homework, and always found a way to make Eva laugh when she didn’t mean to.He was a storm disguised as a breeze. And Ari adored him.“Uncle Jules, you have to come to my school talent show,” she begged one afternoon, tugging at his sleeve.“Wouldn’t miss it for the world,” he promised, h
