The sweet, warm smell of toasted butter and fresh berries woke me up early the next morning.

I threw on a light cardigan and walked down the stairs.

In the open kitchen, Lucien was standing by the stove. On the kitchen island sat two small wooden plates filled with golden pancakes, sliced bananas, and warm milk.

Leo and Maya were sitting on high chairs, wearing dark blue matching outfits. They were already bathed, clean, and giggling while Lucien cut their pancakes into small, perfect bites.
