Elena rested her head back against the pillows and looked up at the crystal chandelier overhead.

Her hand trembled slightly, but her will was as iron clad as ever.

“They came into my home, Eliza,” she murmured. “Richard and Evelyn Donovan. Those two snakes came into my home and told me my daughter wasn’t worthy of theirs.”

Eliza’s jaw tightened. She hadn’t told Elena everything, but enough to ignite the flame. How Vera had left, how she hadn’t answered calls since. How she’d seemed shattered after that visit.

“And Sarah Langford was with them,” Elena added with a grimace. “That little porcelain viper. I’ve watched girls like her ruin kingdoms under the guise of social etiquette.”

She turned slowly, her piercing eyes meeting Eliza’s.

“They want to destroy Vera. And they think she has no power. No name. No weapon to wield.” Her voice dropped to a dangerous whisper. “But they’ve forgotten one thing.”

“What’s that?”

“She’s my daughter.”

Eliza nodded solemnly.

Elena’s hand reached out and

Vera didn’t answer right away. Her fingers curled around her mug tighter.“I don’t know,” she finally whispered. “I wanted to tell him tonight. I even thought maybe we could… I don’t know, fix things. But after that call, I just…”She didn’t finish. She didn’t need to.Talia gave her hand a squeeze. “One step at a time. Heal first. Build. When the time is right, you’ll know what to do.”Vera nodded, her heart still raw but her eyes a little clearer.“I think I’m ready,” she said softly.“For what?”“For the fight,” Vera answered. “Not against him. Not against his family. But for me. For this baby. For my future.”And as the city lights flickered against the windows behind her, Vera made herself a silent promise:No matter what heartbreak she’d endured… she would rise.Because this was no longer just her story. It was theirs. The rain poured against the windows of Asher Donovan’s penthouse, much like the way his thoughts crashed inside his skull, loud, messy, and relentless. He paced t

A soft knock pulled her attention toward the door. Her heart jumped, but it couldn’t be him. He wouldn’t...No. Of course not.She ignored it.It came again. Softer this time. She approached carefully and peered through the peephole. It was Talia.Vera opened the door slowly.Talia’s eyes widened when she saw Vera’s face.“Oh, honey…” she whispered, immediately stepping inside and pulling her into a tight hug.“I.. I’m fine,” Vera lied against her best friend’s shoulder.“No, you’re not. You look like you’ve been dragged through emotional war,” Talia said bluntly, pulling back to look at her. “What happened?”Vera hesitated. She didn’t want to tell the truth. But Talia knew too much already. She always did.“I called him,” she finally said. “And Sarah answered. I heard her… with him.”Talia's lips parted in stunned disbelief. “No. No way. That.. he wouldn’t...”“She was moaning his name, Talia,” Vera snapped. “Telling him how much she missed this. Do you think I imagined that?”Talia

Vera’s entire chest collapsed in on itself. She ended the call with shaking fingers and just stood there, her back pressed against the glass, her face pale and her lips quivering. Her stomach turned violently. She pressed a hand over it, instinctively protective. Her baby. Her baby didn’t deserve this.A sob escaped her lips, rough and raw and gut wrenching. She had dared to hope. She had dared to believe that maybe, just maybe, there was still something left between them. That perhaps he hadn’t really turned his back on her.But tonight had shattered every last fragile thread she’d been clinging to.“Asher…” she whispered his name, and it felt like it was the last time.Meanwhile, at Asher’s Penthouse… Asher stepped out of the bathroom, towel around his waist, hair damp and skin flushed from the hot water. He rubbed a hand through his hair, muscles tense from days of exhaustion and restless nights. The air in the room felt strange.“Damien?” he called out, confused. His head security

The lights were dimmed low, the silence only broken by the soft hum of the air conditioner and the occasional honk from traffic stories below. In Vera's lap lay a leather bound folder, her copy of the newly signed contract with Fontaine Industries. She stared at it for a while, her fingers gently tracing the golden letters embossed at the corner: Sterling Core Studios. Her name. Her vision. Her chance. She should’ve been celebrating. And for a moment, earlier, she had been. Her heart had fluttered at the thought of building her empire, at proving them all wrong, the Donovans, Sarah, even her own insecurities. But now… the stillness brought everything else crashing in.Vera leaned back against the couch, the warmth of the room suddenly doing little to soothe the ache in her chest. Her hand moved slowly to her belly, resting just below her ribs. She didn’t know if it was maternal instinct or simply emotion, but there it was again, that faint flutter, not quite physical, not yet, but ali

Once seated, Fontaine didn’t waste time.“I’ve reviewed your portfolio. Your work in animation and game mechanics is impressive. Raw, but bold. You have a unique signature, an edge most designers spend years trying to find.”Vera blinked. “I… I appreciate that. I didn’t think anyone even saw my submissions. I’ve been...”“Shut out,” he finished, not unkindly. “Yes, I know. Donovan has reach. And when a man like him feels betrayed, people follow his shadow.”Her fingers tightened slightly on her lap.Fontaine leaned forward, folding his hands. “But I don’t work in shadows. I make moves that set the stage. I want to invest in your vision. Your studio. Your talent.”Vera’s breath caught. He continued. “I’ve already prepared an offer. Complete funding for your studio, including workspace, equipment, hiring rights, marketing, everything. You retain 60% equity. I take 40% only for market leverage and protection. You’ll have full creative control. I believe you’re capable of building a brand

Vera blinked.Fontaine? That name wasn’t one tossed around lightly in the industry. He was one of the top ten angel investors across Asia and Eastern Europe, with a reputation for turning unknown creatives into industry juggernauts. And now… he wanted to meet her?Her fingers trembled slightly as she reread the message. At first, suspicion crept in.Could it be another setup?Someone from the Donovan circle trying to humiliate her further? But then she clicked the attachment. It was all official. The address was real, the transportation already pre arranged, and the background check on Fontaine had him tied to Sterling Group’s past partners, but not directly. She sat back, stunned. After everything, why now?Was the universe offering her a rope just as she was drowning?Tears stung her eyes, but she wiped them away, her jaw tightening. She had no time to cry. No luxury of self pity. Whether this was a trap or a real door opening, she needed to walk through it. For her baby. For hersel

The morning haze blurred the city skyline as Vera stared out the taxi window, her forehead pressed lightly against the glass. The ride to the hospital felt longer than it should have. Every bump in the road sent a wave of nausea washing through her, and by the time they pulled up to the emergency entrance, her hands were trembling in her lap.She hadn’t eaten properly in days. She hadn’t been able to hold down more than a few sips of water. The fever had finally broken, but the nausea… it had only grown worse. She’d told herself it was just the stress. Just the heartbreak. Just the physical toll of everything crashing down at once. But when she woke up that morning to violent heaving and dizziness so intense she couldn’t even stand straight, something inside her whispered what she hadn’t wanted to admit.Something was wrong.Or maybe… something had already begun.Vera paid the driver with the last cash she had in her wallet and stumbled into the hospital, clutching her coat tightly ar

After that letter, he hadn’t given her the benefit of the doubt. He hadn’t asked questions. He hadn’t searched for the real reason. No, he had reacted.Swift. Brutal. Final. He’d made a call to his legal team. Then to a few influential names in the tech industry. No one bearing the Sinclair name was to be associated with any Donovan partner brand. He didn’t blacklist her outright. He didn’t have to.A word here. A name there. Subtle, but enough.Enough for people to know that Vera Sinclair was not someone you wanted on your team, not if you wanted the Donovan Group’s good graces. It was overkill. It was cruel. But Asher believed he was protecting himself from a woman who had used him, lied to him, mocked him.And Vera? She had no idea.No idea that her once lover had turned into the hand pulling every opportunity out from under her feet.No idea that the man who once held her like she was the only thing that mattered now viewed her as a betrayal so deep, it eclipsed everything else.S
