Kate's jaw tightened, her pulse surged, her fist balled. “How are you tracking him? Are you sure you're tracking the right person?” she asked, her gaze fixed on him.

Michael smiled, “You're not the only one with connections, Jane. You're not the only cunning one. I have my way of getting things done.”

“Okay, sir. I hope we're tracking the right person. Because you already know Phil can jam your network and make you believe that you're in control,” Jane replied, sending her gaze back to the road.

Michael didn't speak, he just nodded.

Jane couldn't sit comfortably in her seat. Her brain was constantly fighting a battle over morality and vengeance. She turned to Michael, facing him fully, her expression a mask of cold calculated logic. “Whose side are you on? Phil's family or mine? You sound like someone seeking justice instead of vengeance, Michael. Well, I am fighting for vengeance. You should know better. Phil took everything from me. He trained me, molded me into a weapon, all wh

Michael continued to stroll towards the opening. Jane’s instincts stepped in, she knew danger was looming. “Michael, wait,” Jane hissed, pulling him into the cover of a large oak tree. “This is too easy, Michael. It's a trap. Ask yourself why the entrance is already open. It's not just a trap, it's an invitation. He knows we’re here. He knows what he is doing.” Michael nodded, he reached for his radio. He had Marcus on standby, waiting to help when necessary. “Marcus, I need a satellite scan of the immediate area. Anything unusual. Anything at all, give me something, now,” he demanded. As he waited for a response, a screeching sound came over the radio, and a voice cut through the silence, amplified by a hidden speaker. “I’ve got to give it to you guys. I'm impressed, really. I'm loving the challenge, wow! Welcome to my hideout, Jane. And Michael, the protector or should I say the one who messed with the wrong man?” the voice said, laughing. It was Phil Anderson. His voice was che

Every single step was made with extreme caution but with urgency. Michael and Kate watched on, their breaths heavy—their hearts beating in synchrony. Kate's legs were numb, so she stood up to get some relief. “They've reached the elevator, Jane,” Michael stated, his voice filled with relief. “Please keep the loop running. Can you buy an extra five minutes? Five minutes will be enough to get Luke and the team out.” “Yes, I'm working on it,” Kate replied, her fingers flying against the keyboard, her determination unwavering. As Luke was being extracted, Jane’s focus shifted to the hostile signatures. Her eyes caught three figures, realizing they had been deceived, and they turned back, their movement now fierce and desperate. The way they moved, the way they carried their weapons, reminded Kate of the same training she had undergone. It was obvious that they were Phil's men. Then a new alert appeared on her screen. It was a coded message that Kate interpreted with ease. “Michael, I

The dawn broke over the city, not with the gentle assurance of a bright day, but with the hard, cold, smear of a high-stakes gamble. The atmosphere in Michael's penthouse was filled with the scent of coffee. The energy in the environment was pumped. Jane stood by her usual place—the glass wall, revealing the stretch of the city. That morning, she was not Kate Vance; she was Jane Blackwood, the daughter determined to finish the day on a high note—no backing down. Below, the streets were starting to buzz with the indifferent rhythm of morning traffic, oblivious to the undercover operation about to unfold.Kate’s eyes scanned the city from above. She saw a couple with a baby in the man's arms, and she smiled. She imagined herself in the woman’s position, having a supportive man by her side, willing to go to greater heights with him. She exhaled deeply, “Someday, Jane, someday.”Michael had just woken up out of bed. He was always the last to wake up even when the alarm went off. Sleep was

The mood thickened instantly. The silence that concealed the room was as dense as a rock. Michael didn't answer the call. He stood in silence waiting for Kate to say something. Kate stared at him, waiting for him to explain himself. It was a tense moment consumed by confusion and anger. Then Michael’s phone vibrated again. The same caller ID. He picked it up. “Hello, um, lemme call you back in 10 minutes please.” Then he hung up. The silence continued. Michael cleared his throat, “Um, that was my ex-girlfriend.” Kate's face hardened, “You’re still in contact with your ex? Wow, how long have you been in contact?” “Kate, sorry, Jane, it's not what you think. Yes, I'm in contact with her, but it's purely business. Nothing more. I only contacted her recently. We haven't spoken in years.”“Hmmm, so why is she calling you? Why are you in contact with her?”“Fine, since you have trust issues and you desperately want to know, I'll tell you. The contact I have been getting all the solid in

Kate reluctantly opened the message. She knew she was going to uncover something that would shock her to the core. She closed her eyes, breathed in, held her breath, and then she breathed out. She opened her eyes. The message was a brief exchange of coded text between Phil and someone:Phil: The Asset has gone through the necessary training. The asset is ready. Deployment window opening. Unknown: Confirm target acquisition protocol. No collateral.Phil: Protocol confirmed. Target has been solitary for a while. The asset believes the target is the enemy. Kate's breath hitched after reading the message. She couldn't believe her eyes. Her blood ran cold, her hands shivering. Her fingers balled into a fist. “The asset believes the target is the enemy,” she repeated the words, the taste of the words, a severe pain on her tongue. She now realized it. Phil had been manipulating her from the start, using her grief as the perfect cover to mould her and use her as he wills. She couldn't shak
