Chapter 2

作者: Sole Authority
I didn’t bother arguing any further. Turning on my heel, I walked out of the conference room and went straight back to my desk.

Opening my laptop, I clicked into a hidden folder.

There was something Sebastian and Julian didn’t know.

I had developed the core logic of the Nebula Algorithm entirely independently on my personal computer.

I had even planned ahead and registered the software copyright under my own personal name months ago.

It belonged entirely to me. The company didn’t hold a single grain of ownership over it.

I hit the enter key.

A pre-written script immediately kicked into action.

The progress bar flashed rapidly across the screen.

Line by line, I purged my proprietary core encryption modules completely from the company’s servers, wiping every trace of backup files clean while I was at it.

What I left behind on their server was nothing more than an empty, hollow shell framework.

Once that was finished, I unplugged my USB drive and packed it safely into my backpack.

Then, I opened a Word document and typed out a letter of resignation.

Five minutes later, I slammed the resignation letter down onto Sebastian’s desk.

Sebastian didn’t even glance at it before signing his name.

He leaned back in his leather executive chair, letting out a contemptuous laugh.

“What’s this? Throwing a temper tantrum just because your pride got hurt?

“Let me give you a piece of advice, Aaron—don’t let your arrogance get the best of you while you’re young.

“Once you walk out that door, a community college diploma like yours won’t even land you an interview at a respectable company.”

I looked at his arrogant face, feeling nothing but pity.

“Mr. Carter, I hope you don’t live to regret this.”

Sebastian reacted as if he had just heard the most absurd joke.

“Regret it? The world keeps spinning with or without you!

“Dime-a-dozen code monkeys with community college degrees like you are a dime a dozen. They’re practically crawling all over the streets!

“Get out of here already. Don’t waste Director Monroe’s time taking over your work.”

Ignoring him entirely, I turned around and walked out of the company I had poured my blood, sweat, and tears into for three long years.

That very evening, I logged into the country’s largest developer forum.

I created a stripped-down version of the core encryption module and open-sourced the underlying foundational algorithm.

After publishing the post, I took a shower and went straight to bed.

Around noon the next day, I was awakened by a sharp, persistent phone ringing.

Groggy, I pressed the answer button.

“Hello? Who’s this?”

A deep, commanding voice came through the receiver.

“Hello, am I speaking with Mr. Aaron Bennett?

“I’m Alexander Dawson, CTO of Apex Global.”

I snapped awake instantly.

Apex Global.

The undisputed Titan of the tech industry—the exact company Sebastian’s petty enterprise dreamed of riding the coattails of.

“Mr. Dawson? How can I help you?”

Alexander’s voice carried an excitement he couldn’t quite mask.

“Mr. Bennett, I saw the algorithm you open-sourced on the forum last night.

“It’s nothing short of pure genius!

“Our group is currently tackling a massive national-level big data initiative, and we happened to hit a brick wall at that exact bottleneck.

“Your algorithm solved our pain point flawlessly.”

Leaning back against my headboard, a cold smirk played at the corner of my lips.

It seemed there were still people out there who actually knew real talent when they saw it.

“You flatter me, Mr. Dawson. It was just something I put together.”

Alexander’s tone turned serious and professional.

“Mr. Bennett, I’ll cut straight to the point.

“We ran a background check on you and saw that you just resigned from your previous company.

“On behalf of Apex Global, I officially extend an invitation for you to join us.

“If you agree to come onboard, your starting salary will be $300,000 annually, plus core tech equity options.

“Furthermore, you will directly serve as the Chief Architect for our upcoming ‘Project Genesis’!”

My hand tightened around the phone.

An offer like this was something I wouldn’t have even dared to dream of before.

I deliberately paused for a moment.

“Mr. Dawson, you might not have read my full resume.

“I only hold a community college degree.”

A hearty laugh echoed from the other end of the line.

“Aaron, in the face of true technical genius, a piece of paper isn’t worth a dime!

“When can you start?”

I looked out the window at the dazzling sunlight and spoke softly.

“Tomorrow.”

The following spring.I received a special invitation. My Alma mater—the humble community college that Sebastian had once held in utter contempt—invited me back to deliver a keynote lecture.I didn’t decline. On the day of the lecture, the main auditorium was packed to capacity with not a single empty seat in sight.Thousands of younger students sat in the audience, their eyes filled with uncertainty, self-doubt, and a desperate craving for direction.Dressed in a simple white button-down shirt, I stepped onto the stage.I hadn’t prepared a slideshow, nor had I drafted fancy, polished rhetoric.Looking at those young, anxious faces below, I began to speak slowly.“I know many of you might have ended up here because you stumbled on your college entrance exams, swallowing a bitter lump of frustration in your hearts ever since.“You might feel like the bar in this society is set far too high, and that you failed to secure a sturdy stepping stone in the form of an elite degree.”

Three days later. The legal department of Apex Global officially filed a commercial fraud lawsuit against Sebastian’s company. The damages claimed reached an astounding thirty million dollars. When the news broke, the tech industry was stunned.Sebastian’s already shaky capital chain snapped in an instant, and the company’s bank accounts were frozen by the court. As the saying goes, when the tree falls, the monkeys scatter. The employees who were still holding onto dreams of striking it rich packed up their things overnight and fled. The once-arrogant Sebastian turned grey-haired overnight. He liquidated all his properties and luxury sports cars, but he still couldn’t cover the massive damages claimed by Apex Global. In the end, the company filed for total bankruptcy. Not only was Sebastian left with nothing to his name, but he was also saddled with millions in personal debt, becoming a blacklisted defaulter despised by all.Word had it that he now spends every day dodging d

Sebastian collapsed heavily back into his chair with a loud thud, his face as pale as a sheet of paper.“Aaron... no, Mr. Bennett!“Listen to me! Let me explain! This was all Julian’s doing!“He’s the one who crashed the system! It has nothing to do with me!”At this life-or-death crisis, Sebastian threw Julian under the bus as a scapegoat without a second thought.Julian whipped his head up, glaring at Sebastian with bloodshot eyes.“Mr. Carter! You hypocritical traitor!“You’re the one who forced me to step up and run the demo!“I didn’t write a single line of this code—I can’t even make sense of reading it!”Turning toward me, he screamed and sobbed as if clutching at his absolute last lifeline.“Aaron, please testify for me!“You wrote this code! All the core technology belongs to you!“I’m just a guy who makes slide decks—I don’t know anything at all!”Julian’s mental defense line collapsed completely, laying bare the whole ugly truth right in front of everyone. The

Mr. Anderson’s brow furrowed, his tone laced with mild displeasure.“What’s wrong, Mr. Carter? Are we not welcoming Mr. Bennett?”Sebastian jolted violently, instantly replacing his expression with a flattering smile that looked worse than crying.“Welcome! A warm welcome to you all!“Having Mr. Bennett here to guide our work is practically a once-in-a-lifetime blessing for our company!”As he spoke, he threw a vicious glare toward Julian, who was cowering behind him.Julian was now deathly pale, not even daring to raise his head. The entire group filed into the company’s largest executive conference room.Without a shred of hesitation, I pulled out the chair at the head of the table and sat down in the chief position.Nathaniel and the other executives from Apex Global took their seats on either side of me in order.Sebastian and his team were left with no choice but to sit across from us, trembling with anxiety. The atmosphere in the room was suffocatingly tense.I tapped

At ten o’clock the following morning.Three black Mercedes-Maybachs slowly pulled up to the front entrance of the office building.Sebastian, along with Julian and the entire executive suite, had been waiting eagerly by the front doors early in the morning.Fawning, sycophantic smiles were plastered across everyone’s faces, even though the backs of their shirts were thoroughly drenched in cold sweat. The doors opened.Nathaniel Anderson, Senior Vice President of Apex Global, stepped out first, straightening the lapels of his suit.Sebastian hurried forward to greet him, extending his hand to shake Mr. Anderson’s.“Mr. Anderson! Welcome, welcome! It is an absolute honor to have you grace us with your presence!”Nathaniel merely gave a cool, distant nod, making no move to hurry inside.Instead, he turned around and walked respectfully toward the rear door of the middle Maybach. He personally pulled the door open.“Mr. Bennett, we’ve arrived.”Hearing the title “Mr. Bennett,”

Julian turned deathly pale, his knees going completely soft.“Mr. Carter! It wasn’t me!”Julian pointed frantically at the scrambled mess on the screen, yelling at the top of his lungs.“It’s Aaron! It’s definitely that damned bastard Aaron!“When he left, he maliciously wiped out the entire underlying core library!“He’s retaliating against the company! This is deliberate sabotage!”Trembling with rage, Sebastian slammed his fist heavily onto the table.“Unbelievable! A community college graduate dares to dump his mess on my head?!“Where’s the legal team? I want them on the phone this instant!“I’m going to sue him! I’m going to ruin his financially and make sure he rots behind bars!”In less than ten minutes, Attorney Dominic Westwood rushed into the conference room, drenched in sweat.Grit nervously, Sebastian gave a furious recount of the situation.“Draft the lawsuit immediately and file for an asset freeze!”After hearing the situation, however, Dominic’s complexion
