Chapter 3

Author: Moore
A bad feeling surged in my chest. I had just opened my mouth to beg for help when Ivy shoved a small silver pellet into my mouth.

I screamed as the silver toxin burned violently in my stomach, stealing my breath.

Ivy grabbed a long wooden rod and rammed it hard along my belly, pushing upward toward my chest as she spoke without pause, "Silver toxin will keep the pup quiet. And forcing it back with a rod will buy us a few more hours."

"No! The pup will die. You can’t do this!" I struggled like a madwoman. The silver-nitrate-coated ropes cut into my wrists and ankles until blood seeped out.

Ruby and Hawkins turned deathly pale, trembling uncontrollably.

"This… this won’t do! Elara has already lost so much blood. If this keeps up, it’ll really be two deaths in one. When the Alpha holds us accountable—"

Ivy suddenly raised her voice, cutting her off, "This is the Alpha’s direct order. Everything comes second to Serena. Are you all planning to disobey the Alpha?"

I cried until my throat went raw, my vision blurring. "My pup… my pup…"

Ruby turned her head away, unable to bear it, yet still tried to soothe me. "Elara, endure it a little longer. This is for your own good…"

"Adrian would never treat me like this! You must have it wrong! He promised he would never hurt me or the pup. Stop this now!"

Ivy snorted coldly, her face full of disdain. "Who do you think you are? The entire Whitefall Pack will belong to Serena’s pup in the future. Save your strength and let the pup stay quiet."

"I’ll make every one of you pay with your lives!" I roared with everything I had left, hatred burning as I glared at everyone present.

Ivy’s eyes hardened. She suddenly grabbed a kettle of hot water from the table and poured the scalding, steaming liquid straight onto my abdomen.

My entire body convulsed violently as a piercing scream tore out of me.

"Pups are afraid of heat. Pouring hot water will make it retreat. Elara, stop screaming. These are all the Alpha’s orders!"

As the wooden rod was ground again and again into my distended belly, blood spilled over the edge of the bed.

I stared at the blood spreading across the sheets and at the grotesquely distorted curve of my crushed abdomen, unable to draw a single full breath.

I cried out in despair, my voice growing weaker and weaker.

"Please stop… Elara will really die!" A servant named Daisy Moore finally broke down, her voice choking with sobs.

Ivy spun around and shouted sharply, "This is not your place to speak! Disobeying orders? Do you want to be expelled from the pack?"

"Ivy, the bed is soaked in blood! Please, bring the midwives!"

Ivy stepped forward and slapped Daisy hard across the face. "Are you deaf? The Alpha said that no one is to disturb Serena’s delivery. If anything happens to her, ten lives like yours wouldn’t be enough to pay for it!"

Ignoring the pain, Daisy suddenly rushed toward me, trying to untie the ropes binding my body.

"Stop her! Anyone who disobeys orders… Burn them at the stake!"

Guards stormed in from outside. They shackled Daisy with silver-coated iron chains and dragged her into the courtyard, where firewood had already been piled high.

Moments later, raging flames erupted, accompanied by Daisy’s heart-rending screams.

"No! You animals! Let her go!" I screamed myself hoarse, yet no one moved.

At that moment, the manor gates were kicked open. A commanding voice thundered through the courtyard.

Victor Cole, Adrian’s father and the Progenitor of the Whitefall Pack, stood at the entrance and shouted furiously, "What are you doing? Stop this at once!"

While Adrian was being forcibly confined in the healing sanctuary, I had already left the Whitefall Pack with a patrol convoy.Under the Progenitor’s arrangements, I was sent south, where the climate stayed warm year-round, and successfully joined the Orchid Pack. After a full year of recuperation, my body gradually recovered. Nevertheless, the loss of my pup a year ago left an indelible shadow in my heart. I no longer wanted to hear anything about the Whitefall Pack.Once my health returned, I went to work as an assistant instructor at the pup training camp.Every morning at dawn, I prepared breakfast for the young wolves. After the meal, I accompanied them through basic training until formal lessons began.Lunch was even more plentiful. Sometimes there was moon-seared roast, sometimes bloody meat stew. After exhausting training sessions, the pups would cheer as they rushed into the dining hall, smiling sweetly as they said, "Thank you." My wounded heart slowly healed amid those

The guards’ furious shouts, the servants’ panicked cries, and the crashing of overturned tables and chairs made my head ring. The Progenitor’s grief-stricken voice sounded in my ear."Alpha, you can’t die! You still have to atone to the Luna! Physicians, hurry, treat the Alpha!"Adrian clutched his chest and refused to leave my bedside, speaking with deep emotion. "I’m guilty. For Elara, I’m willing to do anything. If she doesn’t wake up, I won’t leave."I struggled desperately against this body that refused to obey me.Finally, I opened my eyes. Through my blurred vision, I saw Adrian, covered in blood. I weakly moved my fingers. As if sensing it, he jerked his head up."Elara, you’re awake… Thank the Moon Goddess, you’re awake!" He forced a smile, his expression twisted with both pain and joy."My pup…" I squeezed out the broken words from my throat. He opened his mouth. It took him a long time to finally say, "When you’re a little better, I’ll bring the pup to you. Rest firs

Knowing there was no longer any way to hide it, Serena wiped away her tears and suddenly burst into a crazed laugh at Adrian."I did it. So what? Elara’s the Luna, exalted in status. She has everything. In your eyes, there is only her. I’m just a widow who lost her mate, with no one to rely on. I was only fighting for power for my own pup. What’s wrong with that?"It was you who gave me hope. That’s why I wanted more. You indulged me. I just wanted to live a better life!"You said you would reserve the Alpha heir position for my pup, but only if her pup died could I feel at ease! If she died, I could become the new Luna, and my pup would be the rightful heir! Even you would be mine!"Adrian stared at her in shock."You’re insane! I’ve always respected you as my sister-in-law, and you actually wanted to kill my mate and take her place! Marcus’s death filled me with guilt toward you. Everything I did for you was merely compensation for the mate you lost. And yet you coveted me and w

"I didn’t!" Adrian shouted. "If Elara couldn’t hold on, why didn’t anyone send word to notify me?""Notify you?" A trace of anger rose on the Progenitor’s face."You were the one who ordered the butler to assign every midwife in the pack to Serena and forbade anyone from disturbing her delivery!"Ruby watched the Luna bleed all over the floor, yet still chose to bind her hands and feet with silver-nitrate-coated ropes, and even had the physicians prescribe labor-delaying medication!"And Ivy, Serena’s personal attendant, force-fed Elara silver pellets, used wooden rods to press down on her abdomen, and poured boiling water onto her stomach!"She claimed all of this was done on your orders and that Elara was not allowed to give birth until Serena finished delivering. Even Daisy, the servant who begged for mercy, was sentenced to death by fire. If I hadn’t arrived in time, she would have been burned alive!""I didn’t… I never said she wasn’t allowed to give birth!" Adrian screamed

He bolted outside like a madman, his roar shaking the entire courtyard."Midwives, all of you, follow me! Bring everything and every tool. Only the best!"His mind was filled with my image, tenderness softening his brows and eyes."When Elara gives birth, I’ll celebrate for three days and three nights. I want the entire pack to know she gave birth to the Whitefall Pack’s most precious pup."Yet the instant he stepped through the gates of my courtyard, that gentle smile froze on his face.Servants were running back and forth, carrying basins. Basin after basin of dark red blood was dumped onto the ground. The air was thick with the stench of copper.Panic was visible on his face. He broke into a run and rushed into my bedroom, only for the Progenitor’s cane to come crashing down hard against his head in the next second."You are not worthy of being Elara’s mate. I would rather sever ties with you!""Father!" Adrian clutched his head, enduring the pain as he asked, "Elara… What h

The sudden appearance of the Progenitor and his guards frightened the servants tending the firewood into dropping to their knees with a loud thud.Ivy’s face went deathly pale as well. She lowered her head and knelt. When the Progenitor saw me on the bed, covered in blood and bound tightly with ropes soaked in silver nitrate, his fury exploded. He slammed his cane hard against the ground."You have unbelievable nerve! How dare you treat the Luna like this! Guards! Bring the physicians and midwives at once. Save Elara at all costs!"Ruby wiped the sweat from her forehead and spoke respectfully, "Progenitor, this was all done on the Alpha’s orders. Everything was to prioritize Serena, so all the midwives are in Serena’s room."The Progenitor’s overwhelming pressure slammed Ruby to the ground. Cracks spread like spiderwebs across the smooth marble floor."You are the Luna’s personal attendant, the one closest to her. And yet this is what you did to her? Your actions have disgraced t
