Freya Ashwolf

I froze for a second, staring down at the little pup in my arms.

"Pretty lady, I want upsies," Caelan repeated, his tiny voice firm, his dark eyes shining up at me with absolute trust.

My omega wolf let out a soft, aching purr inside my chest. I reached down and lifted him up against my hip. He was a soft, solid weight, smelling like sweet milk and warm fur. I pressed his chubby body against mine, my heart swelling so hard it hurt.

"Thank you for standing up for me, little prince," I whispered, holding him tight. Without his alpha authority, Sebastian would have thrown me into the rogue cells.

Caelan rested his small hands on my neck, shaking his head with a serious look on his face. "I hate two-faced wolves like her. My uncle says a fake wolf's words are poison."

A short laugh bubbled out of my chest. "You are very smart for a five-year-old pup."

The tiny boy's ears turned pink, but he tried to play it cool, biting his little lip to hide his smile. Seeing him act so grown-up broke my heart in two. I held him closer, wondering if my own stolen baby would have had the same cute cheeks, if he was somewhere cold and hungry while I carried another pack's heir.

"Young Master Caelan," a Royal Sentinel interrupted, stepping forward. "High Lord Octavian and Lady Serilda are waiting at the main hall. We must go."

Caelan didn't move from my arms. He wrapped his small legs around my waist and looked up at me. "You carry me to my daddy. My paws are tired."

I hesitated, pulling back slightly. "Little prince, I have to find a way to perform. Besides, I am just an omega performer. I cannot walk into the alpha's private den."

"If I say you can, you can!" Caelan whined stubbornly, digging his little fingers into my shoulder. "Besides, how will you play without your silver bone instrument?" He tilted his head, his dark eyes sparkling. "My grandmother has three more in the Nightbane vault. If you carry me, I will make her give you one."

I looked at his glowing eyes and couldn't say no. "Alright. I will carry you."

Caelan grinned, sinking his little head into the crook of my neck. "You smell really nice, pretty lady. Like warm sun and sweet cream. Are you single?"

"I am single," I said softly, chuckling as we walked down the stone hallway toward the upper deck. "Why do you ask?"

"Then you should marry my daddy and be my mommy!"

I nearly dropped him. My heart slammed against my ribs. His father was Lucien Nightbane. The High Alpha of the Nightbane Crimson Dominion. The most dangerous killer in the entire northern territory, a male who crushed rogue packs with his bare hands and ruled the Dominion with total violence.

"What about your mommy?" I asked gently, my voice dipping low.

Caelan's ears drooped, his scent turning sour with sadness. "I do not have a mommy. I only want you." He buried his face in my chest, clinging to my clothes like a lost pup.

My chest tightened until I couldn't breathe. Even the powerful heir of House Nightbane was just a motherless child inside. I wrapped my arms tighter around his small back, rubbing his fur to soothe his pain, wishing with everything in me that my lost pup was being held just as tight somewhere in the world.

Inside the high alpha's private quarters, Lucien Nightbane stood near the iron balcony, his massive five-foot-eight frame filling the space with pure, deadly pressure. He wore a heavy black leather tunic tailored to his broad shoulders, his dark eyes gleaming behind clear-lens glasses.

Darius Nightbane stood before him, sweating through his clothes, shaking under his brother's dark aura.

"I swear to you, Lucien, the sentinels are searching the entire ship!" Darius choked out, unable to meet Lucien's gaze. "Caelan is inside the war fleet! No rogue would dare touch him here!"

Lucien reached up, taking off his clear-lens glasses. He folded them closed, one temple at a time, and set them on the heavy oak table. Without the lenses hiding his eyes, his alpha gaze was pure bloodlust.

"If my son has a single scratch on his skin, Darius, I will tear the flesh from your bones," Lucien growled, his voice vibrating through the stone walls. "Get out of my sight and find him."

"Yes! Right away!" Darius gasped, stumbling back toward the heavy doors.

Before he could reach the handle, the iron doors swung open.

"Daddy! Look who I brought!" Caelan's little voice rang out.

Lucien snapped his head around, his dark eyes locking onto the door.

I stepped over the threshold, holding the young prince in my arms, my breath catching in my throat as my eyes met the towering male in front of me. The air in the room suddenly turned scalding hot. My omega wolf thrashed violently inside my chest, screaming, howling, recognizing the dark, lethal scent of wild ash and blood.

Lucien froze, his eyes dropping to my face, then down to the mark on my neck, his jaw clenching so hard the muscle ticked.

"Put my son down, female," Lucien growled, his voice sending a wave of electric heat straight down between my thighs.

Freya AshwolfRowan set his empty wooden bowl onto the rough oak table, his face flushing dark with rare, quiet pride. "Thank you, Freya. Let us finish our meal."My younger brother had held this ambition inside his chest for months, too buried in shame to speak it out loud. Now that he knew his elder sister supported his path, a bright, dangerous fire burned in his wolf eyes. He eagerly devoured a second serving of the roasted venison. When we finished eating, I reached out to clear the grease-stained wooden trenchers from the tabletop, but Rowan instantly caught my left wrist, stopping me in my tracks."Freya, do not strain your shattered shoulder with heavy labor," Rowan commanded, his youthful voice dropping into a stern tone. "Leave the heavy lifting to me. Go back to your chamber and let your bones rest under the shadow-herbs."I managed a soft, weak smile. "Thank you, Rowan."Returning to my small sleeping quarters, the thin smile on my face dissolved into absolute nothingness.

Before Selah could even spread her poison, Freya Ashwolf had surrendered her position and walked away from House Nightbane.Selah knew all about the rogue ambush near the Blood Moon Gardens. She had originally planned to stage her own rescue of little Caelan to earn Lucien’s favor, but the black-skinned omega had thrown herself in front of the rogue claws instead. Now, Freya was battered, broken, and stripped of her ability to play the ceremonial violin. She had fled back to her dilapidated den in the lower Ashwolf territory without touching a single coin of the royal family’s platinum. To Selah, this was the ultimate gift. The path to b

Freya AshwolfLucien Nightbane looms over my bedside, his towering frame cutting through the cold torchlight inside the Moonfang Healing Sanctuary. He pulls off his clear-lens glasses with a slow, deliberate motion, folding the frames closed one temple at a time before setting them on the heavy oak table. Without that harmless mask, the untamed alpha dominance beneath his golden eyes blazes raw and dangerous."What is the matter, Freya?" Lucien's deep voice rumbles through the silent chamber, heavy as thunder rolling over the mountains.I shrink back into the wolf fur blankets, my dark brown skin flushing hot under his intense glare. My right shoulder throbs with a vicious, dull ache, every broken bone reminding me of the iron club I took for his pup."I am merely feeling a slight discomfort in my shoulder, High Lord," I reply softly, forcing my voice to remain calm and flat. "It is nothing worth your concern. But I wish to be released from the Moonfang Healing Sanctuary tomorrow morn

Freya AshwolfSitting propped against the rough stone headboard, I listen as Gideon Frostclaw outlines the fate of the rogue blood hunters, my stomach twisting into tight knots. Lionel is a traitor and a savage. He dragged helpless pups into his violent schemes, got caught in the dark timberlands, and now begs the High Lord for mercy as if his hands are clean.Although I do not regret taking that iron club across my shoulder to shield little Caelan, the dark reality of my injury hangs over my soul like a death shroud. My right shoulder blade is cracked. The Blood Physicians made it clear: if the bone does not knit perfectly under the moon, my right arm will lose its power. I am an omega whose entire worth in the Ashwolf Moon Dominion was built on playing the ceremonial silver violin. Without my arm, I cannot perform under the full moon. My future, once bright and clear, has dissolved into cold, suffocating shadows. If my wolf heals me, I might hold the instrument again. But what if th

Freya Ashwolf"Are you hiding in this dark washroom by yourself, trying to tend to your own broken body?" Lucien’s deep voice echoes off the damp stone walls. His sudden intrusion sends a violent jolt through my entire frame. Panic spikes my blood, making my omega wolf thrash beneath my skin. I frantically haul my torn gown over my chest, spinning around to face him while clutching the wooden medicine swab like a dagger. "Get out, High Lord! Leave this chamber now!"Lucien folds his clear-lens glasses closed, one temple at a time, sliding them into his dark leather coat. The illusion of the harmless, calm leader vanishes instantly. His sharp, golden alpha eyes flare with a cold, terrifying intensity as he stares at the bloody gauze pooling at my feet."If I walk out that door, how do you expect to smear this cooling salve across your back?" Lucien growls, stepping closer until his massive shadow completely engulfs me. "Do you plan to struggle here alone until the moon falls from the s

Freya Ashwolf"Father!" Caelan chirps, rushing forward with a broad smile to wrap his small arms tightly around Lucien's muscular thigh.I stare at the High Alpha in absolute disbelief as he looms in the stone doorway of my sanctuary chamber. My heart hammers against my ribs, and my omega wolf stirs beneath my skin, hyper-aware of his dominating presence. "High Lord Lucien... I am resting fine. You did not need to make a special journey from the Nightbane Crimson Citadel just to check on my wounds."Lucien does not answer immediately. His sharp, golden eyes sweep over my pale face, ignoring my feeble protest entirely. He steps inside, setting a heavy leather satchel filled with rare, imported blood-plums and enchanted meats onto the wooden table. "What do you intend to eat?"His dismissive tone catches me off guard, leaving me floating in a strange mix of helplessness and irritation. "I have no appetite, High Lord.""That is unacceptable," Caelan says, puffing out his small chest as h
