KEVIN’S POV
The next morning when I woke up, I almost expected Kiara to have gone missing. Last night was so beautiful and fulfilling that I was afraid I had dreamt it all up. My heart started beating erratically when I saw Kiara still sleeping beside me.
I leaned against my hand as I gazed at her angelic face. My heart filled with so much warmth and love that I was afraid it would burst.
I removed the strands of hair from her forehead and stuck them behind her ears. She groaned as her eyes flew open. Her face flushed and she pulled the blanket over her face…
It felt a bit strange to see her shy away from me. I had always thought of her as a bold woman who knew what she wanted. I pulled the sheet down and kissed her forehead.
She sat up suddenly, putting a halt to my other romantic endeavors. She rubbed her eyes and said, “What is the time?”
“It is just seven in the morning, why?”
KIARA’S POV About eight to nine men with heavy guns were guarding the warehouse. It would be foolish to attack them.“Nivaan, You, Kevin, and Adrian talk to those guards and distract them. Valence and I will sneak inside and check this place out.”The moment those words left my mouth, Kevin had grabbed me by the shoulders. He glared at me and spat, “There is no way I will let you go inside!”I would have gotten angry with him for trying to be controlling but his protective attitude made me feel cherished. So, I decided to let it slide. Drawing in a deep breath, I looked at him with pleading eyes. “This is the best plan we have, Kevin. If something goes wrong Valence will teleport me back to the camp…”“Kiara is right, Kevin. This seems to be our best bet. I would have let you accompany Kiara but I need your help. I can’t distract so many guards alone. We need to work as
KIARA’S POV Warmth flowed through me as a hand was placed on my shoulder. I didn’t have to look up to figure out that it was Kevin.I jumped to my feet and turned around so that I was facing him. My lips pursed into a thin line as I took his hand in mine. “I am so sorry, Kevin. We were a bit late… those b******s gave father the vile potion…”He rubbed the pad of his thumb against my chin and said, “Hey! Don’t worry love. Vally can help us with that…”Then he went and sat beside his father. Squeezing his hands, Kevin said in a shaking voice, “You scared me today… I don’t know what I would have done if anything had happened to you…”Kevin’s father massaged his head and said, “ You should probably move away from me… For some reason, I have this intense urge to bite someone…”“Hell No, this can&rs
KEVIN’S POV When Kiara didn’t return for a long time, I went in search of her. She was seated on a boulder in the backyard of the camp. Her wavy hair waltzed in the breeze hiding most of her face. There was something very alluring about this. I found myself walking towards her in a trance. When I was a few yards away from her I was hit by a strong surge of emotions; pain, fear, worry, grief…I was by her side in an instant and pulled her into a tight hug. She buried her head in my chest and started sobbing softly. Every sob pierced through my heart with equal intensity sending waves of pain through my body. After a point in time, it became so unbearable that a whimper escaped my throat. This drew her attention to me and she looked up at me questioningly; probably waiting for an explanation.I brushed the back of my hand gently across her cheeks and croaked out, “I don’t know how but I can sense all y
KIARA’S POV “How are you feeling, Father?” I asked handing him a bowl of soup.He eyed the soup with distaste and said, “I am fine now… really… I don’t think I need this stupid soup…”I couldn’t help but chuckle at his expression. He abhorred the herbal soup but Valence had insisted that he should drink it at least for a week.I sat beside him, took a spoonful, and placed it near his lips saying, “I promise I won’t ask you to have the soup tomorrow onwards. Please have it today…”“Fine!” He said with a disgruntled expression before taking the bowl from me and guzzling it down in a single draught.I was about to get up and leave but he held my hand. I hissed due to the pressure on the blisters. He opened my hand and kept gazing at it for a while.Tears glistened in his inner eye as he raised his head to look at me. He m
KEVIN’S POV It was as if the world had stopped moving on its axis. My father was dead. The person who was my idol… who was supposed to guide me was gone… just like that.My heart had shattered into a million pieces and each of those shards was tearing me apart piece by piece. The intensity of the pain that I felt kept rising until it was too much for me to handle.A painful howl escaped my throat and I shifted to my wolf form running wildly into the forest. Once deep inside the forest, I let out a deep, long howl; a howl laced in grief; the call for mourning.Leaves crunched and bushes swayed as all the members of the mystical pack filed in from all directions. A large white wolf with golden eyes emerged from the bushes and let out a heart-rending howl.I bounded towards her and rubbed my nose against her trying to console her but she fell to the ground and started whimpering. I licked her face an
KIARA’S POV Every muscle in my body fought to transform as the howls reverberated in the environment. My bones crackled as my wolf struggled to take control but she was too weak.Pure agony coursed through my body overpowering every single coherent thought I had. I screamed at the top of my lungs but there was no one around to listen to me.The struggle between my weak wolf and my human body continued in a loop. Before long the pain blinded me and I was thrust into a state of complete darkness. The next thing I remember is waking up on the cold floor. I groaned as I pulled myself up. The dizziness weighed heavily on me as I fluttered my eyes to clear my vision. The sun was visible just above the horizon. I didn’t have the energy to figure out whether it was sunrise or sunset. The only thought that came to my mind was that I had to find Kevin.Dragging myself to my feet, I trudged outside. With slow labored steps
KEVIN’S POV I had asked Collins to arrange a meeting with all the important members of the pack on the lawn. It was Seven days since father died yet these useless morons had not found out the killer. After a quick shower, I threw on a random shirt, a pair of jeans, and a jacket. I was about to leave when I caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror.A sense of déjà vu assaulted me as I recalled the day Kiara had picked clothes for my meeting. I closed my eyes and clenched my teeth. No! I wasn’t allowed to go there. I couldn’t let myself have even a single moment’s joy till my father’s killer was on the loose.Letting out a long, deep sigh; I trotted outside. I had just entered the lawn when I noticed an unfamiliar scent, no several unfamiliar scents.“Alpha Kevin,” a man in a silver-colored suit stepped forward and bowed to me.“Alpha Rodriek… I didn’t
KIARA’S POVIt had been ten days since I met Kevin near the lake. The tiny hope in my heart that he would come back and at least give me a chance to explain myself was getting bleaker and bleaker. In retrospect, maybe I should have followed him home; maybe I should have insisted that he listened to my part of the story. Weren’t we supposed to fight harder for what we wanted in life?“Nivaan! NIvaan!” I called out as I walked out of my tent. He came running moments later. Worry was evident on his face.He cupped my face and asked, “How are you feeling?”A bitter smile spread on my lips as I said, “Like my heart and soul has been ripped out of my body…”“I am so sorry, Love… I wish I could do something for you…”“Actually you can… I am done playing the victim card. Take me to the packhouse, I want to confront Kevin.”
