Forty-Eight Hours Earlier

Alpha Zayne Steele's POV.

"You are 15 minutes out," the voice on the com says. Our guy back at home base.

I tried my best to stay entirely focused as I didn't get much sleep, staying up well into the night on the phone to no avail. It was tough getting these Alphas from neighboring communities on board to join forces.

I had spent hours on the phone pleading my case. However, all the other Alphas seemed to be taking the same stance as Alpha Thornton. As far as they were concerned, there seemed to be no trouble at their doorstep, and as such, they would not get involved in my mess, they said.

My mess, I chuckled bitterly. At one call, he had gotten so angry he remembered yelling into the phone, making it clear to them, don’t come running to him when it reaches your doorstep.

Because for the life of Alpha Zayne, this threat was on all wolves, why would they not want to get ahead of this? What were they waiting for? When they were under attack?

Bottom line, I was exhausted, to say the least.

I may need to adapt my plans moving forward regarding this faction, but first, I will exhaust all my options. However, right now, I need to stay focused on this mission. I need to be on top of things.

"Five minutes out," the voice says. Everyone sprang into action, checking their gear, strapping up, and ensuring everything was intact and their knives were sheathed where they should be.

It is a big mistake reaching for your knife when it's time to land a kill shot in the limited time possible and said knife is not there.

That can cause severe and deadly consequences, and I also did the same and ensured we were fully stacked on rounds.

"One minute out..." we parked a little way from the target location, and we planned to go the rest on foot.

Getting out and gear packed, we ran through the forest under cover, everyone already knowing their next move. We always plan and train before one of these missions.

Reaching our target, my men stealthily got into position around the perimeters. Four shooters positioned themselves to simultaneously take out the guards on the towers.

Four Targets.

Each has their target in sight... Another set of warriors positions themselves for the next move once the guards are taken out, while others continue scanning the perimeter looking for any threats, and then, we wait...

With everybody now in position, the long barrel riffle was drawn, aimed, and ready when I gave the order. Instantly the soft phew sound of the silent riffle could be heard, and simultaneously the guards went down.

Bodies dropped to the ground of the tower. Zoning in, calling my wolf forward, I confirmed they were dead, each with a gaping wound to their head.

Looking at my team, I nodded. I couldn't see their faces under their masks. However, I sensed that everyone was on edge. You can feel it in the air.

Myself included, more so tired than anything else. But we have done this so many times before. We will also get through this one and hopefully gather some intel to take us one step closer to the truth and reality of the situation.

"It will soon be over. We will be in and out as quickly as possible." I said to the teams around me in a whisper they could easily hear.

We are in our own teams, five teams of five men. The next minute, team one of five went in to clear the lobby immediately and stay under cover while they took out the guards in the surveillance room, with team two quickly following to make it to the basement to tap into the camera feed.

While team three followed behind to position themselves by the elevator close to the entrance and wait for the next available one. While team four, my team, followed to take the next elevator, with team five, who are following right behind to take out anyone coming down the elevator with team three.

There are four elevators. We are heading to the fifth and fourth floors.

I chose to go to the top floor while team five went to the fourth floor. I might find essential documents on the top floor if we made it in time before any type of alarm is sounded.

By this time, team one had cleared the floor quickly, taking out the remaining guards on the ground floor, and we went live as we heard the instructions start coming in.

I must say, so far, so good.

"Elevators two and four are on the move and coming down. Two are empty, and the other has four occupants. They are all spread out, two to the left, one in the middle, and the other to the right, and elevators one and three seem unmoving. Stay ready."

This can only mean one thing: team two has successfully secured the tap, and now the feed is cut and replaced, and we have eyes moving forward.

Sadly, not in each room. I assume they don't want their monstrosities easily recorded at any time. Very smart, I thought.

Nevertheless, team three is getting into position at the news, as team one heads to the empty incoming elevator to get in, head to the third floor, and get into position, awaiting the go-ahead.

Team two quickly reached us as the elevator went ding, and they all rushed in, but the first one in, Sacha, was startled.

"What the f*ck" she hissed, as it was one of those things, that creature. Before said creature could make that screeching sound, though, Sacha skillfully silenced him with a silencer gun, one shot to the head.

"F*ck, thought this elevator was cleared?" She cursed and complained.

Nathanial promptly caught him and rested him on the floor gently. "Disgusting, just disgusting." Nathanial murmurs, his face scrunched, showing his distaste.

Blood, a dirty cream, almost yellow, oozed out of the wound. We collectively grumbled at the disgusting scent of it.

I guess there is a blind spot in that elevator because that's the one that was supposed to be empty.

They then pile in and head up just as the other elevator ding, team three already lying in wait, silencers at the ready, squeezing the triggers quickly and skillfully eliminating the threats. Four more guards down.

Quickly putting aside the bodies, which all had gaping head wounds, team five and my team squeezed in, and group three waited for it to come down again. They are heading to the first floor.

Stairs were never an option. They were always gated, which is why we made sure to take the guard's passes to access the elevator to be able to move up and down.

Team two went to the second floor. We reached our floor, and I checked the stairwell and noticed it did indeed have a gate with a lock. This is how this faction operates, locking in everyone, even their workers, but it's the norm for them.

We have encountered this before.

We quickly noticed our floors were all clear. Not believing our luck, I made my way with my team into position, awaiting the go-ahead. We would be clearing each floor simultaneously.

Soon everyone was at their post waiting. We then spring into action, intel coming in as we go. My team quickly files out onto our assigned floor, moving with stealth and precision down the corridor.

One behind the other but strategically spread apart. We approached the first room on the right, and it was empty. One person stayed behind to gather intel. This must be my lucky day, and I feel good about this.

In the second room on the left, one guard lounging lazily as what looks like a human, well, not anymore! As this human was healing on a bed, heavily chained.

This can only mean one thing: this faction has already experimented on this poor soul, and they are waiting to see whether or not the human will survive.

Lifting my silencer in one smooth move, I squeezed the trigger twice, putting them both out of their misery, not missing my target. Once turned, there was no going back for that poor human.

At a quick glance, we can tell there is nothing more in here, so we move on to the next room on the right, and to my horror, it's an operating room with a full-on operation taking place...

Alpha Thornton held the phone and crushed it before he could threaten Dr. Nathan. No. One thing he would never do is go at him unprepared without information. He would not further look the fool to this mere human.Plus, he did not want Ivan nor Jada to know who he was talking to, not to mention Ivan was already suspicious of him, he reasoned."Aubrianne has been kidnapped," Ivan said and took control because he knew Thornton would not be capable of thinking clearly after hearing such news. His eyes were changing from black to red, and he was about to lose control. Ivan told him to breathe, "Deep breaths," he said as he motioned. Then Ivan grappled with his phone and started making arrangements as he updated the guy who was still on the phone with them, and they went back and forth with updates and information.Open communications on both ends while Jada sat in a trance on a nearby plush sofa, trying to connect with Aubrianne or Shawn, and now Alpha Thornton sat frozen and unmoving…Ep

  • Diaries of a Hybrid and Her Mate   230. Should have surrendered!

Aubrianne and Shawn cried out as Shawn rushed to Kirrah's side and brought her closer to him and Aubrianne as he consoled her with his tear-filled eyes and felt the most gut-wrenching pain in the midst of all this. And Aubrianne relaxed herself from clutching her chest, grasping her heart, trying to calm the beats, then wrapped her arms around them, trying to give comfort, but it was like her magic was not working, or she could not focus well enough to do the task.At this point, Aubrianne was kicking herself for not giving up herself. All the teams would be alive, not to mention Shawn's mate Kirrah."I should have surrendered. Maybe Kirrah will still be alive." Aubrianne started, but Shawn quickly cut her off, "I won't hear of it."He shut her down instantly."They would have killed us all anyway," Shawn spoke, his voice croaking. Realizing and accepting his faith, he would gladly die and meet his mate in the afterlife. But he had to be strong right now for Aubrianne, and they were s

The sound of tires screeching and the burnt scent of rubber filled their nostrils. And for a moment, they suffered from the force and power that reverberated through the vehicle after the blowing up of the jeep in front of them.Aubrianne's ears were ringing loudly and sharply. It grated on her soul."Zayne, we are under attack, Aubrianne screamed into the phone, not even hearing herself, as she clumsily and desperately tried to reach her lifeline, the phone connection to Zayne.*BOOM* The car behind them was now a goner, taken out with no survivors. More ringing in their ears, Aubrianne screamed towards the phone and informed Zayne the vehicle behind was now down.More vibrations rippled through the air in the wake of the loud explosion…The atmosphere was loud. You could hear the raging licks of fire stemming from the burnt vehicles that had ignited.Screaming came from the jeep behind that quickly died. The night then became suddenly still, and the air almost felt stagnant. Unshed tears swelled in Aubrianne's eyes as she rapidly blinked them away, sniffled, and rubbed her itchy nose with the back of her hand. Goddess, her mom was dead and has been for a long time. She thought she was over this. But the dam burst. Aubrianne couldn't hold it back because this dream had felt so real. Martha burst through the room just as Leia shouted to ease her humans' dismay, 'We must get back to Mother Aubrianne. Snap out of it….' Aubrianne jumped up off the bed as if it was suddenly set ablaze. It was almost like a complete leap, the same way her heart leaped out of her chest, escaping its restraints in utter joy and confusion at that moment, still slightly groggy from her nap and grappling with reality.'You fainted silly,' Leia teased."Oh Goddess, it was not a dream; is my mother alive?" she questioned carefully as if articulating to two-year-olds. After staring wide-eyed at Martha, who was slowly shaking her head up and down in confirmation. While Leia also

Nevertheless, Daniela chose to listen intently. "Don't you see, all I have to do is bide my time?" Daniel expressed enthusiastically, giving hand gestures. His head tilted toward Daniela, staring into her eyes, not backing down or showing a hint of indecisiveness. No, he was certain."Wow, so you are serious about rejecting your mate?" Daniela finally asked. "Yes, I am," Daniel answered, not missing a beat almost before she finished her question."My plan is simple, sis; I would not get myself entangled in anything with anyone and simply wait." Daniela stared at her brother as if he had grown two horns. She could not help it. She snapped, "Who are you, and what did you do to my brother? Because this is not my brother I am talking to." She did not want to start calling him names, especially the fact that she thought he was a psycho.Daniel smiled almost eerily at Daniela and said, "It's me, sis." Daniela could not help but wonder if something sinister was going on. Something di

  • Diaries of a Hybrid and Her Mate   226. Who is this psycho?

This was indeed overwhelming and euphoric at the same time, to say the least, for Aubrianne.Since her arrival earlier, Martha had been jolly, almost skipping through her explanations, fanciful as ever. This caused a giddiness in Leia as she listened to what she already suspected. She was wagging her tail and skipping around as if she truly knew what it was.Aubrianne hated this. She hated it when Leia did this - knowing precisely what was going on, but Leia would choose to wait for Aubrianne to figure it out.But she knew Leia knew that she would figure it out, eventually. It was like Leia was sort of testing her, and honestly, Aubrianne does not mind most of the time, but right now, she does not appreciate this about Leia.At All! Right now, she wanted to know what it was all about.Nevertheless, Aubrianne's eyes only widened the more Martha explained. Her security detail had dropped her off and set up two miles away at a motel after they ensured the area surrounding Martha's was se
