Chapter 3

Author: Faraway Galaxy
The next morning, at the courthouse.

Just as I reached the doors, I bumped straight into Jacob. He was holding hands with Taylor Fisher on the steps, looking as intimate as a pair of newlyweds.

Taylor was wearing a white dress today, one hand resting protectively over her stomach. Her eyes were rimmed red, looking like the picture of innocence.

When she saw me, she shrank behind Jacob's back.

Jacob didn’t hide, though. Instead, he walked right up to me and looked down at me condescendingly. “Lila, let’s talk.”

I didn’t budge. “About what?”

He pulled a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it.

“I don’t want to take this to the extreme. After all, we were married. The conditions are simple. You agree to the divorce, and the house on the east side of town is yours. As for your little boy toy, I won’t pursue it.”

I laughed. “Jacob, are you doing me a favor now?”

Jacob flicked the ash off his cigarette and stayed silent.

“Do the math yourself. What good does making a scene in court do for you? With concrete evidence of cheating, you won’t get much money. What I’m offering you is out of respect for our five years together.”

Five years together… It turned out it was worth a single house.

I stood tall and stared straight into his eyes.

“I hadn’t even come after you for your affair, and yet you two just can’t wait to throw yourselves in my face to act like absolute scum? A scumbag and a trashy mistress—what a match made in heaven.”

Jacob’s face darkened. He stubbed out his cigarette without a word. Behind him, Taylor stepped forward and gently tugged on his sleeve.

“Jacob, forget it. Lila is just in a bad mood right now…”

Jacob ignored her and kept his eyes fixed on me.

“Lila, you’re getting one thing wrong. I came here today to give you an out. What’s the point of you clinging to all that property? Taylor is carrying a Graham. They should inherit my property,” he said, his tone as flat as if he were simply stating a fact.

“You can’t have kids. That’s fate. I’ve accepted it, and you should too.”

My jaw tightened, my gaze shifting to Taylor’s stomach. Underneath the soft fabric was a slight bump.

Taylor was pregnant? They had been messing around behind my back to this extent?!

Before I could even say a word, Taylor stepped forward, biting her lip with a face full of apology.

“Lila, I want to apologize to you. I know breaking up a marriage is wrong, but I really didn’t mean for this to happen. Jacob said the love between you two was gone a long time ago.”

“And I just wanted to give him a child. After all, with your condition, you can’t give him an heir. Normally, I’d despise being the other woman.”

Looking at her innocent face, I suddenly laughed. “Hypocrite. Don't act like the victim while playing the home-wrecker.”

Taylor’s face stiffened.

I stood up, walked right in front of her, and spoke in a bone-chilling tone. “You do something so disgusting, yet you still want to pretend you’re high and mighty. If you really had any pride, why didn’t you abort the baby?”

She took a step back, tears welling in her eyes. “Lila, how can you say that? The baby is innocent…”

Jacob immediately pulled her behind his back, his voice dripping with disgust.

“Lila, that’s enough! Just because you can’t have kids doesn’t mean you get to stop others from having them!”

My heart slammed against my chest, my eyes widening as I stared at him. “What did you say?”

He let out a bitter laugh. “Did I say something wrong? You call Taylor a hypocrite, but are you any better? Hooking up with a college boy, and you still have the nerve to blame others?

“I really regret it. Back then, I only had them take your uterus! If I’d just ended your life back then, I wouldn’t be standing here making a fool of myself today.”

In an instant, the world went still.

I stood frozen on the spot.

A year into our marriage, I found out I was pregnant. Back then, I was so filled with joy and excitement, eagerly awaiting the baby’s arrival. I’d even set up a nursery in our home in advance.

But because of an accident, I lost the baby. The damage to my uterus was so severe that I could never bear children again…

Yet never in my wildest imagination did I expect that my baby had actually been murdered by his own father!

A month later, the court verdict was handed down. For the crimes of intentional assault and money laundering through corporate embezzlement, Jacob was sentenced to fifteen years in prison. On top of that, his personal assets were confiscated, leaving him completely penniless.Because he couldn’t come up with the money to compensate for the company's losses, all the real estate and luxury cars under his name, along with that marital home hiding Sienna’s memorial photo, were put up for forced court auction.I heard that on the day he was transported to prison, he lost it. He kept muttering endlessly about his company and his son, telling anyone he ran into. His mother, Debbie, suffered a stroke from all the commotion in court that day. Having lost her source of income, she was dumped into a cheap nursing home. Paralyzed in bed, she was left with cold meals every day, forgotten and reliant on minimal assistance. As for Taylor? Though she survived the severe hemorrhaging from her mis

Judge Ellis sat with a dark expression, preparing to read the verdict, when right at that moment, the heavy courtroom doors swung open once again.Several uniformed police officers strode inside. Officer Sheppard, who was leading the group, held an arrest warrant in his hand.“Who is Jacob Graham?” Officer Sheppard's voice boomed across the room.Jacob sat slumped in his chair, raising his head like a machine. “I am…”The officer walked right up to him and flashed his badge.“We received a report for your arrest along with concrete evidence. You are suspected of hiring someone to intentionally assault Ms. Lila Powell five years ago,

“I’m not divorcing! I’m not divorcing!”Jacob suddenly dropped to his knees, reaching out in desperation to grab my leg.“Lila, honey, please forgive me! For the sake of our years together, please don't do this to me! I can’t live without the company!”I took a step back in disgust, and the bailiffs immediately stepped forward, pinning him down firmly.Right at that moment, a sharp, furious scream erupted from the gallery.Jacob’s mother, Debbie Ryan, who had fainted earlier, had somehow woken up. She charged straight at Taylor like a madwoman.“You leech! You destroyed everything! If you hadn’t insisted on marriage, how could my son have ended up like this?!”Debbie completely lost her mind. She grabbed Taylor by the hair and landed a brutal smack straight across her face. The crisp sound of the slap echoed through the entire courtroom. Half of Taylor’s face swelled up instantly, blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.Knowing that Jacob was about to become a penniless

“Order! Order in the court!”Judge Ellis slammed the gavel over a dozen times before barely managing to quell the chaos in the room.Jacob’s lawyer, Mr. Abraham, was drenched in cold sweat, not even daring to glance at his own client. With things reaching this point, the emotional card was utterly destroyed. Jacob could only cling to the only thing he had left—his financial interests. He snapped his head up, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at me, roaring at the top of his lungs. “Fine! Lila, you win on being ruthless! You went ahead and dug up every last detail of my past! But so what? The illegitimate son, Sienna, all of that happened before our marriage!“The fact remains that you transferred eight hundred thousand dollars to Dan during our marriage! You are the one who concealed and transferred our marital property!”He gritted his teeth, a twisted look of triumph breaking out on his crazy face.“Let me tell you, even if my reputation is ruined, don't even dream of taking a s

The courtroom plunged into absolute silence, with only Dan’s crisp words echoing through the air.Jacob's entire body stiffened. He stared dead into Dan’s face, the spitting image of his own younger self. His lips trembled, but he couldn’t squeeze out a single word for the longest time.Judge Ellis frowned deeply and banged the gavel. “Witness, please observe courtroom decorum and state your identity!”Dan let out a bitter laugh. He pulled a neatly folded DNA test report from his pocket and handed it to the bailiff with both hands.“Your Honor, my name is Dan Barnes. I am twenty-one years old. I am the illegitimate son that the plaintiff, Jacob Graham, left behind twenty-one years ago when he was living in Lancre Town.”The entire room erupted into gasps, and the gallery immediately burst into excited whispers.“An illegitimate son? Twenty-one years old? Isn't that even earlier than his dead first love?”“Holy crap, not only did this guy ruin his wife and kill his own baby, but

Jacob instantly realized he’d slipped up, his eyes darting away nervously.“Jacob, stop talking.” Taylor quickly grabbed his arm. I shoved her aside and lunged straight toward him, my voice trembling as I asked, “What happened back then… was that you?”Taylor stumbled from my push and almost lost her footing, clutching her stomach with a scream.Jacob panicked, grabbing me tightly by the collar. “Are you crazy?! She’s pregnant!”I glared at him in pure hatred. “Tell me the truth!”The veins on his neck bulged as he completely lost his composure.“Yes! I was the one who told the doctors to take out your uterus! If you hadn’t used Sienna’s death to force your way into my life, what would you even be? You were never worthy of replacing her, let alone starting a family with me!“And now you want to kill the baby in Taylor’s belly too? Lila, a woman like you doesn’t deserve to have children!”Looking at his twisted face, I realized he had become a complete stranger.I had slept b
