LOGINThe metallic tang of the Shadow-Spine Hound’s blood still hung in the damp air as Kael wiped his hands on his ruined tunic. He didn't waste time admiring the dead beast; in the Ash Wastes, blood was a beacon for worse things.
He opened his system inventory with a thought. A faint shimmering slit opened in the air beside him, revealing a crude bone-hilted blade resting inside the dark storage space.
Equip Shadow-Spine Dagger.
A dark purple light flashed, and a ten-inch blade made of polished monster bone appeared in his right hand. The edge was jagged, humming with a trace of dark venom.

Shadow-Spine Dagger (Rank: Common)

Not a legendary weapon, Kael thought, testing its balance with a quick slash through the air. But it beats fighting bare-handed.
He spent his 5 free stat points immediately, placing 3 into Strength and 2 into Agility. A wave of heat rushed through his shoulders and legs, his muscles tightening with newfound power.
A sudden, sharp rustle echoed from the thick canopy above.
Kael froze, his senses instantly flaring. The Eye of the Primordial triggered automatically, highlighting three red silhouettes creeping through the upper branches of the dead trees.
Not beasts this time.
Three figures dropped down into the clearing, landing with light, practiced steps. They wore dark leather armor emblazoned with a familiar emblem—a silver crescent moon dripping with three drops of blood.
Bloodmoon Pack scouts.
Kael’s eyes narrowed into slit-like golden pinpricks. High Elder Vane hadn't just thrown him over the cliff to let the fall kill him. He had sent executioners to make sure the "broken trash" never crawled back out.
The lead scout, a tall man named Torin with a scar running through his left eyebrow, stepped forward. He smirked as he spotted Kael standing alive amidst the monster debris.
"Well, look at that," Torin chuckled, resting his hand on the hilt of his sword. "The soul-less brat actually survived the fall. Vane said you were tough to kill, but I didn't believe him."
The two scouts behind Torin chuckled, spreading out to encircle Kael.
"Did Vane send you three to clean up his mess?" Kael asked, his voice chillingly calm. He kept the Shadow-Spine Dagger tucked behind his forearm, hidden from view.
"You're a disgrace to the bloodline, Kael," Torin spat, his eyes glowing faint yellow as his wolf spirit surged under his skin. "An Alpha born without a wolf is a curse on us all. We're doing the pack a favor."

"A favor?" Kael murmured, taking a single slow step forward. "You stood by while Vane betrayed my father. You watched as they stripped my rights. And now you come here to play executioner?"
"Save the speech for the Moon Goddess!" Torin barked. "Kill him!"
The two side scouts lunged at once, their nails elongating into razor-sharp wolf claws. They moved with the coordinated speed of trained pack hunters, closing the gap in a heartbeat.
In the past, Kael wouldn't have even seen them coming.
Now, through the vision of the Divine Sovereign, their movements were as clear as day.
Kael ducked low under the first scout's claw swipe, grabbing the warrior’s wrist mid-air. With a surge of amplified strength, he twisted the scout's arm backward until the bone snapped through the skin.
CRACK!
The scout screamed, but before his voice could echo, Kael drove the Shadow-Spine Dagger straight through the warrior's throat.

God-Devouring Aura extracting wolf-essence...
A strand of silver aura tore out of the dying scout’s chest and plunged into Kael's core.
The second scout gasped in horror, freezing in mid-stride. "What... what did you do?! You don't have a wolf! How are you—"
Kael didn't give him time to finish. He ripped the black dagger from the first scout's throat, spun on his heel, and threw the blade with deadly precision.
The dagger buried itself up to the hilt in the second scout's chest. The corrosive venom flared instantly, burning through his veins as he collapsed to his knees, black blood spilling from his mouth before he fell lifeless into the mud.

In less than ten seconds, two trained pack warriors lay dead at Kael's feet.
Torin backed away, his face drained of color. His hand trembled on his sword hilt as he stared at Kael, whose eyes were now glowing with a terrifying, ancient golden light.
"You're... you're a monster," Torin stammered, stepping over a fallen branch. "What kind of dark magic is this?!"
Kael slowly walked toward him, stepping over the corpses. The silver aura absorbed from the dead warriors surged through his veins, refining his core, making him faster, stronger, and more lethal by the second.
"I'm not a monster, Torin," Kael said, pulling his dagger out of the second scout's chest with a dark squelch.
He looked up, locking eyes with the terrified warrior.
"I am the Alpha you discarded."
The roof of the central palace shattered inward like thin glass.Kael descended into the grand throne room amidst a shower of colored stained glass and heavy stone tiles. He landed in a crouch, his dark mantle fanning out around him as his boots cracked the polished obsidian floor. The grand hall was lit by dozens of flickering golden braziers. At the far end, raised on a dais of polished black marble, sat Lord Malakor. The warlord was clad in full imperial plate, his massive flame-saw broadsword resting across his knees. Standing directly beside him, his high-collared robes scorched and torn from his previous defeat at the Iron Ridge, was Grand Inquisitor Valerius. Twenty elite Solar Templars formed a tight perimeter around the dais, their heavy kite shields locked and their broadswords burning with angry orange flames."You brought a riot to my front door, boy," Malakor rumbled, his voice echoing off the high stone pillars. The air in the Ashen Basin had changed. The sulfurous haze of the Iron Ridge was days behind them, replaced by the crisp, biting chill of the higher desert plateaus.Kael sat cross-legged atop a flat granite ledge overlooking the encampment. Fifty shadow scouts and the remnants of the forward vanguard had made camp in a dry riverbed, completely hidden beneath the jagged ridge. Down below, small, smokeless fires flickered as warriors sharpened silver blades and checked the bindings on their Solar-Refined Alloy chest plates.Kael closed his eyes, turning his attention inward.Deep within his chest, the Stage 2 Primordial Sovereign Core was humming like a contained star. The deep, metallic grinding of ancient stone against stone reverberated through the very bedrock of the Iron Ridge crater. The forty-foot Ancient Obsidian Behemoth was no longer just a dormant relic of a bygone divine era. The Iron Ridge was not a mountain, but a gaping wound in the desert crust.Spanning two miles across, the colossal volcanic crater plunged hundreds of feet into the subterranean dark, its jagged basalt cliffs stained crimson by the sulfurous smog billowing from below. The moonless expanse of the Ashen Reach stretched out like a sea of red velvet under a cold, star-dusted sky.Ten miles beyond Sun-Grave Pass, the dry desert wind blew across jagged basalt hills, carrying the scent of roasted copper and baked stone.
