Cielle's POV.
"What the fuck is wrong with you?" He seethed as he hit the brakes, his eyes red with anger. My lips trembled as I glared at him with widened eyes. "I need to go." I wasn't really looking at him. " You need to go?" He scoffed. "You almost got yourself killed, again!" He growled and the heat of his anger stung my face. "My baby... Ashley has my baby. I need to get my child. Please help me," I shrieked, and he raised a brow. "Your baby? Well, would you look at that." He gritted his teeth as he spoke. "She's with your baby, so? What are you going to do then? How are you going to get your baby from her? By crying and looking like a sore loser?" He bellowed his fingers raking through his thick curly hair. "Are you going to get your baby back by losing all the remaining strength you have? Are you going to get your baby by screaming for help? Nobody pities a pathetic woman. Nobody empathizes with one. You're smart enough to know that, so quit crying and wipe off your damn tears," he snapped as I stiffened, his words creating more impact than I had imagined. "I... I just want my baby back." My sobs choked me as I tried to explain. "I went there to kill her with the gun... and she told me my baby was alive. I just want my baby back, please." I continued to sob as my entire face was drowned in my own tears. "Then take your baby back, together with everything you have lost. Make her weak. Strike her where it hurts the most. When they least expect." His eyes gleamed as he spoke, and I felt courage from his words. "Make them vulnerable. Take away their power, and then strike till they breathe their last. That's how you keep your baby safe and get victory and revenge on the same platter." He ended my speech, and his hands ran to mine. "I can help you, if only you let me," He whispered to me as he watched me keenly, my eyes roaming their sockets. "If you want me to help you, then you will have to play by my rules. Are you willing to do that?" He asked with a heavy breath and I nodded rather too quickly as I tightened my grip on his palm. He looked at me, almost pitying me for how miserable and helpless I was. My first mistake was trusting Ethan enough to hand over my company and wealth to him. My second mistake was thinking and believing my pain was enough to give me strength to fight and conquer them. My third was underestimating that bitch, Ashley. But it was all for good—at least now I knew who I was up against. I was no match for them, well, not in this feeble and weak state. "Good girl." A smirk curled up his lips as I watched me. *** "Mr. Zayn Parsley…" the security guard mouthed as he glared at the long list in his hands. After scanning through, "Ohh, Mr. Parsley," he gasped with realization. "Welcome to the party." His eyes narrowed as they landed on me, and Zayn pushed a shrug off his shoulders. "I do not appreciate your eyes lurking around my date. Can we go in?" Kia asked, his voice low, and for some reason, laced with annoyance. He hummed with a nod and stepped aside. With my arm looped around his we walked into the party hall. "You know what to do, right?" He asked as he led her to the dance floor, his hand steadied on her waist. I nodded quietly, averting his piercing hazel eyes. I finally agreed to go by his rules, but I could feel my skin burn with impatience. But then I stiffened, her eyes glaring at someone in a distance. "Ashley and Ethan are here," I said with indifference, and he led me to the side. Let the fun begin. "Good day, ladies and gentlemen. Welcome to our merge party," Ethan announced, and the guests quieted down. "As you all know, we are gathered here today to celebrate an achievement—a milestone achieved by my company," he continued his speech as his fiancée smiled sheepishly beside him. "We have reached a phase where our competitors have only dreamed of reaching, and today... today we come to celebrate." He raised his glass of champagne, and the crowd cheered after him. Joker! His company? He didn't deserve anything. He owned nothing. He stole everything from me. Now I was bent on ruining him. My blood boiled even though I managed to smile. I wanted to snack his face. No, I wanted to rip his head off. "To commemorate this great achievement, and as a little tip to me and Ashley's upcoming wedding, we would like to play a short video. A video that is dear to us—a vision of our new merged company," he said, and a round of applause thundered within the crowd. With a mischievous smirk on his lips, Zayn raised his wrist to his jaw. "It is time," he whispered into his wristwatch and we waited patiently for the show to begin. The lights went out, and the projector screen placed on the wall became illuminated. But instead of Ethan's precious company's video coming into play, a sex scene from one of his scandalous affairs flashed onto the screen. Curtsey of Zayn and I. The loud moaning and groans from the video, caused the whole crowd and audience to gasp, murmur, and some even chuckle. "Jeez... that's Ethan Blackwell on the screen. Isn't he engaged to Ashley?" The whispers grew louder as the rated content continued to play. "Gosh, their engagement was days ago, and here he is, fucking some other whore." Commotion ensued as the security guards and Ethan himself tried to stop the video from playing. They did eventually, but it had caused enough damage. "You're up," Zayn motioned to me, and I walked straight to the DJ's deck without anyone noticing. I picked up the mic. "Congratulations, Ethan..." My voice sounded stronger, bolder, so much so that it caught the attention of the whole party as they all turned to me. "Congratulations on your engagement to Ashley. But I must say, this video of you naked and shamelessly slamming a cheap stripper won't be great for business." I sneered, and the crowd's whispers resumed. "Isn't she Cielle Coleman? Ethan's ex-wife who was arrested?" Within a few seconds, the hall was flooded with paparazzi, reporters, and interviewers—all clicking their cameras at me, Ethan, and his dumbfounded fiancée. "Ashley, take the video as my little gift to you and your cheat of a fiancé for your upcoming wedding. I mean, you needed to know the scum of a man you're getting married to," I grinned, my eyes fixated on Ashley, who was already trembling. The cameras clicked, the reporters recorded, and the audience gasped. "I wish you a happy married life, though. But don't forget, Boo—once a cheat, always a cheat." I slammed the mic on the desk, a satisfying smile on my lips.Cielle's POV. "Why did you have to pull me so hard?" I snapped as Zayn pulled me to his chest, his hand landing on my wrist."Because we are the center of attention."He said with a smirk, and I realized he had a microphone in his hands."Good day, ladies and gentlemen."He began helping me regain my balance, and soon cameras were clicking, paparazzi forming a crowd in front of us."Welcome to our party. Today we are announcing our engagement to the world.Meet my fiancée, Cielle Coleman."He said, and I gasped, looking at him, but was quick to curtail my shock."Enjoy the party..."He added, pulling me closer for the one thousand and one pictures that came after."What the hell are you doing?" I whispered as I forced a smile, the lights from the cameras flashing brightly on my face."Just smile, fiancée. We are going to be in the headlines." He said, his hand still on my waist. Not being able to bear the bright lights any longer, I pulled away and walked hastily out of the c
Cielle's POV. I returned to my room to see Zinge sitting on the bed, his head bowed as if in some sort of meditation."Arghmm," I feigned clearing my throat as I walked into the room, grabbing his attention."Where were you?" He asked coldly and I pushed a shrug off my shoulder."I umm..." I stuttered as I sat next to him."I felt a bit suffocated, so I went outside for a little fresh air." I lied, avoiding his gaze."You could have opened the windows. They are big enough to have you pass through." He said and I rolled my eyes."Why are you here?" I asked abruptly, feeling uncomfortable by his presence."It seems you don't want me in here.It is my house after all." He said, his tone a bit braggy, and I turned to face him."Well, I know it's your house, but this is my room now.You can't just walk in here anytime you please. If I can recall, when I walked into your room, you acted out a whole drama accusing me of snooping and wanting to glare at your body."I said too quickly
Cielle's POV. The proceedings began, and the plaintiff presented the case.My name was mentioned, and I heard Ashley's lawyer accusing me of committing fraud against the government using my company's name, and then trying to escape the consequences. My breath thickened, but I felt Zayn's hand on mine."Keep calm… It's going to be fine," he assured me once more, and I let out a heavy breath.Soon, I was called to the witness box, the plaintiff's lawyer ready to question me."So, Ms. Coleman, is it true that your marriage with Mr. Blackwell ended suddenly?" he asked. I turned to Zayn and then back to him."Yes, we're divorced," I replied calmly, my hands pressed against the stand."Then you're agreeing that your marriage ended because of your unfaithfulness?"He accused, and I furrowed my brows."I never said that! It was Ethan who was unfaithful," I snapped, and the audience gasped."Can't you see him with Ashley? He cheated with Ashley, and I signed the divorce papers," I retor
Zayn's POV. "Where is she?" My jaw clenched as I glared at the old lady shivering in her chair."Where is Monica?" I asked, moving closer to her, and her face went pale. When I walked into the house, I only found her sitting on the chair, and the fright on her face proved that she was expecting me."Tell me, where is she?" I asked once more, bending to her level."She… please don't hurt her," she stuttered, and I scoffed."That depends, I'm already losing my patience," I gritted, looking straight into her eyes.Monica wouldn't have gone far, maybe she was in too much of a hurry to leave the old lady behind."Who are you? Her mother?"I asked, and the stale look on her face approved my words."She wouldn't have left you here then," I stood up straight, regaining my upright posture."It's stupid to leave her mother here when she knows I'm coming for her," I said, stepping away."Please do not hurt her... Monica didn't do anything wrong." She shrieked, falling on her knees."I pro
Cielle's POV. "What... What are you doing?" I shrieked as I felt caged to the wall.He was only an inch away, droplets sliding from his hair down his chest, the towel at his waist hanging so loose that I feared it would drop.I wanted to speak again, to rebuke him, but instead, I inhaled the warm, nutty scent of hazelnuts that clung to him, making me swallow hard with shallow thoughts. He smelt like a peaceful distraction, like roasted cocoa, and I wanted more.Wait, what the hell was I doing?I wasn’t attracted to him, definitely not.But why did my pulse triple?"What... What did you have to say to me?" I mumbled, shaking my head, a silly attempt to stop myself from wallowing in his scent."You don't have to be shirtless or so close to me to say it, do you? You can step back and say it.I'm all ears," I said, trying to sound tough. He tilted his head, his lips curved into a smirk. "I thought I was making you curious, wasn't I?"He said, and I immediately swung my head to di
Cielle's POV. The dryness of my lips was nothing compared to that of my throat. It stung, and each swallow I took pierced deeper. My own saliva ran down like the sharp edges of a sword.I forced my eyes open and realized I was not where I was when everything went void. The whole place was painted white, the smell of antiseptic invading my nostrils."Glad to see you are finally awake," his voice growled, and I turned my neck slowly, my eyes landing on him.He was seated on a chair just a bit away from me, his eyes darkened and narrowed, his face plain and expressionless as he folded his hands against his chest."How are you feeling?" he asked calmly, and I shifted slightly on the bed."What happened?" I asked weakly, and he stood up from his seat."You have been unconscious for five days. You were trapped in the fire, you inhaled a lot of smoke before I could find you.I brought you to my doctor. Luckily, you didn't sustain any serious burns." He took a breath, breaking his wo
