Katrina

My heart is racing uncontrollably. I'm sure the men are discussing recent events in the living room. I should go out there and join them, seeing as how these events involve me, but instead, I'm wearing my carpet in my room thin with my back-and-forth pacing. As soon as I walked into my room, what was missing hit me. The magic. The one that was kept under lock and key. It's been unlocked, and it isn't there anymore. It's roaming free, and I can't tell where it is or what it is.

A part of me is relieved that I no longer have to be tempted by the forbidden magic, but that's only a small fragment. The rest of me is anxious. There's already so much of myself I don't know about; adding something else to the mix is just too much. I brace myself against my vanity, staring into the reflection of my eyes as I try to calm my racing heart, forcing myself to concentrate on breathing, inhaling slowly through my nose and exhaling through my mouth. I do this repeatedly until my heartbeat slows back
