"You haven’t told me about your lunch yesterday."

Evelyn’s voice was quiet, but piercing, as William stepped into her apartment that evening.

He had just taken off his jacket and set his bag on the couch. He turned, slightly startled by the tone—unlike her usual calm.

"I didn’t think it was important," William replied, trying to sound composed.

Evelyn looked at him, eyes steady.

"The media thinks otherwise. There are photos of you two sitting at that restaurant, with the headline: ‘Hartford’s Fiancée Shines Again.’"

William exhaled.

"I didn’t invite the press. I didn’t even know they would be there."

"But you still sat there. With Eva. And the heirloom ring was between you." Evelyn’s voice began to shake. "Do you realize how that looks to everyone else?"

William fell silent, tension tightening his features.

---

The past few days had tested every thread of Evelyn’s patience.

After the gala, she’d hoped for peace—just a little space to breathe and love William freely.

Instead came news

"This footage is undeniable."The investigator’s voice was calm but carried heavy weight. On the large surveillance screen in the security operations room, the hotel lobby video played on loop. Evelyn was clearly visible, her steps unsteady as she exited the elevator with Julian. Her eyes looked heavy, her movements stiff—like someone struggling to stay conscious.Julian, wearing a barely-there smirk, supported her body while occasionally glancing at the lobby camera. In his hand was a small black object—a concealed portable camera.“That’s not a standard hotel CCTV feed,” another investigator said. “He brought his own camera. This was intentional.”---Elsewhere, Evelyn sat in a quiet corner of her gallery, staring at the ceiling scattered with reflections from the gemstones she designed. But today, no sparkle could dull the darkness inside her chest. Her phone buzzed.> "Ms. Evelyn, you are requested to appear at the Tokyo Police Department today at 2:00 PM for a clarification proce

“Mr. William, there’s something unusual about the video,” said a deep voice from a man in a black suit. The room was dark, filled with surveillance monitors and digital files.William stood behind him, fists clenched, jaw tight. Disappointment still lingered, but in his eyes now was something else—unease he could no longer ignore.“What do you mean?” he asked sharply. The security analyst zoomed in on a still frame from the video that had been emailed to William a week ago—the one showing Evelyn and Julian in the hotel room. But this time, the screen revealed a detail that had gone unnoticed.“Here,” the man pointed. “There’s a hidden camera in the corner of the chandelier. Its placement is too precise. This isn’t a regular hotel security cam. It’s part of a private surveillance setup.”William held his breath. His chest rose and fell with growing urgency. A knot began forming in his mind—a suspicion he had pushed away until now.“Who could plant something like that in a five-star hot

“Why can’t I remember everything...?”Evelyn sat on the floor of her apartment, her back against the wall, her breath shallow. The room was dark, the curtains drawn, and only the light from her phone illuminated her pale face. Her hand clutched her phone tightly—still no reply from William. She had sent more than ten messages, all left on read or simply ignored.> William, please listen to me…That wasn’t me…Something was wrong that night…I wasn’t conscious…Not a single response. Her eyes were swollen—not from tears alone, but from the growing pain that was slowly morphing into something else—resolve. She closed her eyes. Faint fragments of that night struck her mind like broken glass. The wine glass. Julian sitting too close. Her head spinning. The hotel elevator. The lights in the hotel room...“I didn’t drink that much. Why did it feel like... drugs?” she whispered to herself.---The next day, Evelyn forced herself to get up. At her diamond gallery, a few staff members looked u

"Mr. William, you have one new email with an attachment," the voice of the AI assistant echoed in the quiet office.William, just back from his morning meeting, threw his blazer onto the sofa. A light drizzle tapped against the tall glass windows behind him. He exhaled deeply and turned on his computer screen.[Sender: Anonymous]Subject: "True Love in the Wrong Bed."His eyebrows furrowed. He almost deleted it—spam like that appeared too often. But one thing made his finger pause: Evelyn’s name was in the preview text. With hesitation, he clicked. The screen lit up.A video began to play—hidden camera footage from the ceiling corner of a hotel room. The image was slightly grainy, but clear enough to make his blood run cold.Evelyn.Julian.A bed.Intimate movement. At first, William stared at the screen blankly. After five seconds, his breath hitched. After twenty, the chair behind him toppled.“NO!”His scream echoed through the apartment. He clutched his hair, falling to the floor.

“To a night we’ll never forget,” Sandra’s voice echoed from the small stage, followed by applause and cheers from the guests.Evelyn smiled from the corner of the room, wearing a simple black gown adorned with diamond accents on the collar—one of her exclusive designs. The success of the Lumière gallery opening still rang in her ears. It was supposed to be a night of triumph. But one person’s arrival changed everything.“Evelyn.”A voice—familiar, but one that made the hair on her neck stand. She turned and saw Julian standing a few meters away. His face was pale, his hair disheveled, and a faint scent of alcohol clung to his breath.“Julian? What are you doing here?” Evelyn took a cautious step back.Julian raised both hands, as if to show he meant no harm.“I know... I wasn’t invited. I just want to talk. Five minutes. Then I’ll leave.”Evelyn hesitated, her eyes flicking toward Sandra, who was busy entertaining foreign investors.“Five minutes. At the bar,” she finally said.---Th

“If she dares to move again, don’t show any more mercy.”William’s voice was cold and measured inside the conference room of Takashiro & Partners Law Office. Across from him, a poised middle-aged attorney with thin glasses and a sleek black leather folder nodded with a neutral expression.Evelyn sat beside William, holding a folder that contained CCTV footage and lab test results. Her face was calm, but the fire in her eyes simmered silently.“We’ve prepared the formal cease and desist letter,” the lawyer said, handing over the document.“We are demanding a written public apology from Clarissa Auden within seventy-two hours, along with a formal statement that she will not repeat such actions. If not... we’ll proceed with criminal charges.”William glanced at Evelyn. “Are you ready?”Evelyn nodded. “I won’t run from this.”---That same day, the legal warning from Evelyn’s team was delivered to Clarissa’s official address—just as she was in the middle of a photoshoot for her new jewelr
