Valerie Will ~•~ “You want to get a divorce?” The words didn’t even sound right as they left my mouth. “Have you forgotten about the vows we made to each other?” Patrick didn’t hold back a scoff. “Yeah, right.” My mind was racing with different thoughts as I tried to process what was happening. It was the least of the things I expected to encounter when I came back home. I wanted to have an honest conversation with him to see what was wrong and how we would fix our issues. But Patrick didn’t want any of that. He wanted a divorce. “Why do you want to divorce? You didn’t even think to speak to me about it before deciding.” Panic surged through me, but I tried to keep my voice calm. He rolled his eyes. “Like I said earlier, there is no point in talking about it. Just sign the papers, and let’s start the divorce process.” Patrick extended the brown envelope to me, his face void of emotions. “So you expect me to just sign it without knowing the reason why you’re ending our marriage?” I stared at the envelope with disdain. He nodded. “You already know what you did, so there is no use talking about it.” His nonchalant tone made my blood boil. What was he talking about? We were adults and should be able to communicate if something was wrong. I wasn’t going to sit back and watch my marriage crumble, “Are you going through something? You know you can talk to me.” I took a step closer, examining him from head to toe. “Everything has been going well between us. What changed?” I was genuinely confused. Even if he had made up his mind to end the marriage, the least he could do was tell me the reason. Or was he just tired and looking for a silly excuse to leave? Patrick laughed. “Of course, you would want to manipulate me and make it feel like I’m the problem.” He said through gritted teeth. “Things changed after I realized you betrayed me.” My lips parted, and I blinked. “I betrayed you?” “I don’t even want to talk about it. Just sign the damn papers!” His loud voice made me flinch. What was really going on? There was a brief silence. I let out a deep sigh as I closed my eyes momentarily. “Is it because of her? Is she back?” I asked, bracing myself for the answer. “Who?” He asked without hesitation. “Madison.” Her name tasted bitter on my lips. Patrick laughed, a peal of cold and mocking laughter. “So you think I would leave you because of another woman? Madison, especially?” He asked with a chuckle. Madison was his ex-girlfriend. They almost got engaged but ended up going their separate ways. I knew how much he loved her, so I always felt insecure when it came to Maddison. Patrick had assured me several times that she was his past and nothing would make them get back together. But I couldn’t help but ask if the divorce was because of her. I mean, there was no other possible explanation. I felt embarrassed. “So if it isn’t because of her, why are you doing this?” He responded with a scoff. “Have you been listening to me all this while? This has nothing to do with me! Everything is your fault.” He exhaled heavily. “You ruined what we built over the past three years.” I was running out of patience, and the suspense was killing me. How exactly did I ruin everything? I had asked multiple times, but Patrick wouldn’t say anything. “Will you keep on beating around the bush, or will you would actually talk to me about what is going on? I’m genuinely confused.” Patrick threw his hands in the air. “Come on! Stop acting like you don’t know what I’m talking about.” My expression turned soft. “I honestly have no idea.” He paused and looked at me. “You’ve been lying to my face for so long.” He began. “You always made it seem like I was the only man in your life.” My eyebrows were etched in confusion. “Of course, you’re the only man in my life,” I assured him, but he wasn’t having it. All this time, he was talking about a betrayal. Did he mean that I cheated on him? Throughout our three years of marriage, I had never cheated on my husband. It was against my principles, and I couldn’t even imagine hurting Patrick like that. “Spare me that!” He sucked on his teeth. “I know about everything, and you don’t have to lie to me anymore.” He added as he stood up from the chair. I couldn’t even believe something like this was happening. It made no sense. It was getting frustrating. Why wouldn’t he just tell me exactly what he found? Why was he being cryptic? I had nothing to hide and was ready to defend myself. “Patrick.” I took a step closer to him. As I tried to reach out to his hands, he pulled away. “You won’t even give me the benefit of the doubt? After everything we’ve been through, you won’t listen to me?” I was hurt and disappointed at the same time. Patrick was acting differently. A part of me was starting to think that he was lying about everything. If he really found something about me that made him choose to file for a divorce, he wouldn’t hesitate to tell me about it. “I already saw all the evidence I needed.” “Wow,” I muttered, more to myself than to him. “Just sign the papers, and let’s get this over with.” I was confused about how I betrayed him. But even if Patrick didn’t want to say anything yet, I knew that the truth would eventually come to light. I couldn’t even fathom how my life would be if we went our separate ways. The thought of losing him was scary. I was still very much in love with him. “You know what?” I asked, crossing my arms against my chest defensively. “I’m not signing anything unless you tell me the reason why you’re doing this.” “Fine.” He let out a defeated sigh. “You cheated, Valerie! Why did you cheat on me?” He asked, his voice crackling slightly. Did I hear him correctly? Who did I cheat on him with? Where did he get such information from?Chapter 246Patrick Banks ~•~It was the happiest day of my life. I couldn’t stop smiling. Even when Valerie had left to talk to her friends, I kept on stealing glances at her. I couldn’t believe that we were about to get married again, rewriting the ending we once destroyed. Everything felt so surreal. I had been looking forward to this day ever since I saw her at the hotel. At some point, I almost gave up. But I was glad that I didn’t. It was a good thing Jordan was so supportive and reminded me that Valerie was my soulmate. “I’m so proud of you, Patrick.” Jordan’s soft voice dragged me out of my thoughts. “You finally got your dream woman.” I nodded with a smirk. “Yes, you have no idea how happy I am…it still feels like a dream. For a second up there, I thought it wasn’t going to work out because she was being so difficult.” Jordan chuckled. “Then this whole surprise decorations and proposal would have just been a waste.” I sighed heavily. “I don’t even want to think abo
Chapter 245Valerie Will ~•~“A marriage proposal,” Patrick responded with a proud smile that registered across his face. “Wh—how? How did you set everything up?” I asked, still in awe. “I had been planning to do it for a while now.” Wow. My mind hadn’t caught up with what was happening. “So what if I hadn’t agreed to give you a second chance? You weren’t even on your phone while we were in the room. When did you tell the boys about it?” I had so many questions. “I knew you would agree.” He responded with a cocky grin. “And the boys knew about it since. They promised to keep it a secret.” “Wow,” I muttered under my breath. Everything was so beautiful and perfect. I never expected Patrick to pull off something like that. I thought we were coming downstairs to break the news to the kids, not knowing that I was walking into my surprise proposal. “Do you like it?” He asked as he pulled me into a warm embrace. “Of course, I do,” I replied, my voice barely audible. “I love it. T
Chapter 244Valerie Will ~•~It felt good watching Patrick beg and try to convince me to give him a second chance. Even though I was scared, I was still open to the idea of trying again. But I just wanted him to prove to me how bad he wanted me. I had already thought about everything, I wouldn’t let what people had to say get to me. We all made mistakes in the past and I didn’t want to dwell on them or hold it against anybody. I was finally ready to forgive Patrick. We had been through so much. I was starting to believe that Patrick was actually my soulmate. He was the only one who made sense and I chose to believe him when he promised that he was a changed man. Maybe we could make it work this time around. “Valerie?” Patrick’s soft voice dragged me out of my thoughts. I turned around and looked at him. “Yes?” “What are you thinking about?” He asked, reaching out to my finger and intertwining it with his. I shrugged my shoulders. “I don’t know, I’m just thinking about the
Chapter 243Patrick Banks ~•~Everything in my life was slowly turning back to normal. But I didn’t even care about them because the only thing I desperately needed was for Valerie to give me a second chance. After I found out the truth about her and Damien, I didn’t make a move immediately. I wanted to wait for the perfect time before confessing my feelings — after putting him behind bars. Jordan and I worked really hard to make it happen. But even after everything was over, Valerie was still trying to give me a hard time and I didn’t appreciate it. I outright told her about how I felt and she responded with just ‘okay’. I wouldn’t lie, it hurt my feelings. “Are you being serious, Valerie?” I asked, crossing my arms around my chest. “So you don’t feel the same way?” She hesitated for a while, her eyes darting anywhere but mine. “Valerie.” I took a step closer and reached out to her hands. It was a good thing that she didn’t pull away. “I know you might be scared, but I want y
Chapter 242Valerie Will ~•~TWO MONTHS LATER“To new beginnings.” Patrick smiled as he lifted his glass. Jordan, Blair, and I joined him. “To new beginnings.” We all chorused in unison. I couldn’t help but smile as I looked around, taking a sip of my red wine. We promised to celebrate when Patrick and Jordan eventually found a way to get rid of Fredrick. But this time around, it was a double celebration. Not only did we get rid of Fredrick, we also got rid of Damien. As for Fredrick, the board members voted him out and forced his hand to sell his shares. I had no idea how Patrick and Jordan did it, but I was grateful that they did. Then in Damien’s case, they were also the ones who found a way to take care of the problem. I was able to delete the evidence he had against me from his phone, but that wasn’t enough to get rid of him. They hired a private investigator to dig into his life and find what he didn’t want anyone else to see. When they finally did, an anonymous tip was
Chapter 241Valerie Will ~•~“Did you decide to forgive me and agree to this date because of Patrick?” Damien’s question startled me and I shifted uncomfortably in my chair. I shook my head. “Why are you asking?” I demanded, making sure to avoid eye contact with him. Did he already figure out that it was Patrick who convinced me to go out with him or what? He leaned his back against his chair. “I saw on the news that he went out on a date with someone else last night…you’re still in love with him and it hurt you, so you’re using this date as payback.” A relieved sigh I hadn’t realized I was holding escaped my lips. I thought he was talking about something else. “I’m not really bothered about Patrick…I’m not in love with him either. I just said those things because you made me really upset.” I replied, trying to sound convincing. He narrowed his eyes. “Are you serious?” He asked with a hint of excitement in his voice. “You didn’t mean those things?” “I’ve told you a million tim
