"Don't worry, Mr. Frederick, your wife and your baby are safe and sound. Your wife is just in a bit of shock and needs to rest," said Dr. Torrance.
"Are you sure there is no danger that will threaten their safety, doc?" asked Charles, still with great worry.
"Yes, Mr. Frederick, I will continue to monitor the condition of your wife and baby," replied Dr. Torrance. "No need to worry."
However, what Dr. Torrance said did not calm Charles down. He was worried about Gina.
His lover continued to tremble and her eyes were blank. Charles thought that Gina's emotions were on edge.
"Baby, hey, don't worry. You and our baby are fine," Charles tried to persuade. He stroked Gina's messy hair, trying to encourage his future wife.
Gina sobbed and she gripped Charles' arm tightly. "I must have made a big mistake, Charles. I have made a big mistake and this child will suffer the consequences! My child would be a bastard, and I feared that he would be discriminated against at birth."
Gina's cries were so pitiful and Charles' heart ached seeing how fragile she was.
He cursed and cursed Nathalie in his heart for causing all this trouble.
If anything happened to Gina and the baby, Charles would make Nathalie regret it for the rest of her life. He had been waiting for a child for years and Nathalie was completely useless in realizing his wish, yet, she end up harming Gina and the baby.
"Don't think too far, baby," Charles said softly. He kissed Gina's sweaty forehead. "Our child will be fine and I will protect you both."
Gina hit Charles' chest with overflowing emotions. "You are evil, Charles! You are evil! You made me like this. You should have divorced your barbaric wife immediately so she couldn't hurt me and my child!"
"Sshhh... Baby, baby, hey," Charles said as he hugged Gina to his chest. "Don't worry. I will push Natalie to sign the divorce papers right away."
"She won't let you go, Charles," Gina whimpered weakly.
"No, baby, I am sure that Natalie would sign it, because her father needed the money for his treatment. I will threaten her with that, so she won't be able to fight me. She has no one but her father and I am sure she won't want to lose her father just because she is being selfish."
Charles came out of the room where Gina was being treated and looked for a quiet place in the emergency stairwell area, after Gina calmed down and she fell asleep. He needed to immediately settle things with Nathalie.
"Where are you," Charles scolded without further ado, as soon as Nathalie answered his call.
"What do you want, Charles?" Nathalie's voice sounded sharp.
Charles's eyebrows furrowed. "Nathalie, sign the papers. I don't want any more problems like what you caused to Gina and my baby," Charles growled threateningly. "Or, if you keep making things difficult, I will take back all your shares in the company."
"You are a bastard, Charles! The company is mine too. You wouldn't have made it this big if it weren't for me!" Nathalie snapped angrily.
"Don't talk too much, Nathalie," Charles snapped. "One more thing! You have to give up the patent rights to all your designs. I'll give you some money in return."
There was no answer on the other line. Natalie was shocked by Charles' shamelessness, but she hated her naivety even more. She hadn't seen Charles as so shameless for the past eight years.
"Charles, are you stupid? What do you think will happen to the company's stock price once I leave the company?" Nathalie threatened. "You know nothing about design and everything I've done to make the company great!"
Nathalie didn't understand how Charles had the confidence to threaten her like that. He had so much to lose by kicking Nathalie out of the company. Doesn't he know that or is he just too big-headed to realize it.
Charles laughed mockingly. "You must think I'm too confident. But, I am, my dear ex-wife! You're worthless now, because I have hired over very famous designers from other companies to replace you. From now on, you have no leverage left, so you better sign the divorce papers for the sake of your father's medical bills!"
Nathalie sneered. Although she still didn't understand why she was reunited with Nicholas, but right now, while listening to Charles trying to harass her with various threats, she felt lucky that Nicholas had kindly helped her.
"Oh don't worry, damn ex-husband," Nathalie replied mockingly. "You don't have to think about my father's medical expenses anymore. Everything is covered, I even moved his room to the VIP room. All this time you put my father in a makeshift regular treatment room and always complained about the money you paid. Now you can rest assured, my father will be fine, in the VIP room and under the supervision of the number one doctors!"
Charles moved the phone away from his ear, feeling that he had heard wrong. What did she mean that all of her father's medical expenses were covered and he was even moved to a VIP room? How was that possible? Nathalie couldn't possibly have the money to do that.
"You must be bluffing," Charles said sneeringly. "Your father's medical expenses are very high, even when he's only in a regular room. VIP class? Hey, come on, Nathalie, no need to exaggerate!"
"It's up to you, Charles," Nathalie replied calmly. "You can ask the hospital if you don't believe me. You should know, I'm not a liar like you!"
Charles' brows furrowed. Slowly anger crept into his heart. What was Nathalie playing at? Did she secretly have a lot of money, another account, that he didn't know about?
"Where did you get the money for that, Nathalie? Have you been cheating on me all this time? Are you corrupting the company or what?" Charles hissed angrily.
Nathalie laughed. "THAT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, EX-HUSBAND!"
"Nathalie!"
"I'll sign the damn paper and send it to you. I don't want to be stuck with a jerk like you for long!"
Nathalie hung up before Charles could say anything.
Two minutes, her phone rang again. Charles was calling again.
"Listen, Charles," Nathalie hissed coldly, as she answered the phone, after Charles said anything. "If you call me again for anything, I'll come to you with the police and report you for terrorizing me. Just remember, you'll regret what you've done to me now, you jerk!"
Nathalie blocked Charles' number and threw her phone on the pillow. She made a plan in her head. She had to pay for all the hurt and pain Charles had caused her.
She needed a large amount of cash to start over and she couldn't give up before she made Charles fall as low as he could. She didn't have the heart to forgive that evil man. Charles would feel his karma.
The afternoon sunlight filtered in through the gaps in the window blinds, casting a soft golden glow over Jason’s desk.Behind a neatly arranged stack of documents, the man sat quietly, his fingers busy flipping through the pages of the latest project contract he was reviewing. The room was quiet, with only the ticking of the clock and the soft rustle of paper.Jason liked this kind of atmosphere when he was working. That was why he made his room soundproof, so that the hustle and bustle from outside would not penetrate him and make him lose focus. However, the tranquility was immediately shattered when the sound of the door opening loudly echoed, followed by fast and heavy footsteps.Someone entered and without further ado plopped down on one of the leather sofas in the middle of the room, letting out a long breath.Jason glanced over his glasses, sighed, and said flatly, “You always forget to knock,” he quipped. “And you’re always so noisy too. What’s up now, Jord?”Jordan, his twin
I stared at the five-year-old boy who was running around the park happily. His chubby legs stepped quickly between the flower clusters, without fear of falling or tripping. After a while, the boy stopped in front of a maroon rose bush and studied something seriously on the flowers."Mike," I called softly. He turned and his cute smile widened when he saw me. He turned and his feet stepped towards me.I opened my arms and let his little figure into my arms. It felt warm and fragrant, the soft scent of baby powder."Hey, champion, what are you doing?" I asked, kissing his cheek. He laughed because he was tickled by my kiss. "I was watching the bee on the rose. I think it's grandma. The bee saw me and wasn't afraid of me."My heart sank.My mother died two years ago, after battling brain cancer that she had without me knowing.I missed her more than I should have, because Michael was with me.My mother was haunted by guilt because she had been so supportive of me being with Gina and afte
"Gina, can't you stop peeing every ten minutes? I'm so tired," I said, half shouting.Gina didn't answer, just stared at me with watery eyes. "I'm sorry, Mom."I couldn't stand it. Guilt overwhelmed me. I hugged her gently and tidied up her remaining hair."No, I'm sorry, honey. You shouldn't be like this. I made you like this. I should be the one who's sick, not you."Finally we cried together.I felt so tired. I hadn't slept since yesterday, because Gina kept feeling in pain and couldn't stop peeing, so I had to change her diapers every half hour and the sheets smelled of urine had piled up in the bathroom, so in the end I only had a mattress with plastic because I ran out of sheets.Gina's condition was getting worse, even after she underwent treatment and therapy.Doctor Nelson said that it was because Gina didn't have the will to get better at all. She didn't fight and seemed to hope that her illness would get worse until she wanted to die soon.My heart ached so much.People say
I miss my son. The fat, healthy baby I left before he was even three months old.Charles really gave me no tolerance at all. He kicked me out of his life, out of our son's life. He even made an agreement in front of stern-faced lawyers, stating that I had to stay as far away from their lives as possible or there would be legal sanctions if I broke the agreement."Come on, don't be a crybaby, Gina," my mother said curtly. "This is better for you. You don't have to bother taking care of a baby who wants to suckle and cries all the time, a demanding husband, and a fussy, controlling mother-in-law."I felt suffocated. My breasts hurt so much, because my milk was full, but there was no baby to suckle on them. I had to pump and throw away this precious milk, making my heart bleed.I thought after all the trouble that made Charles kick me out, I would feel nothing, like when I was having an affair with Bryan and Larry. However, I was very wrong. It was after I got my full freedom, even with
I feel short of breath.Lately I have been experiencing more frequent excruciating headaches, to the point where I often almost fall or want to vomit, because of the extreme pain.I think it's time for me to get myself checked again. The last check-up I had was when Charles and Gina met, then because Gina was pregnant, Charles planned to divorce Nathalie."Mrs. Frederick, I suggest you immediately undergo intensive therapy and treatment starting now," said Dr. James Pathiwat at that time. "Don't wait until the cancer cells spread further."Yes. Dr. James Pathiwat said that there was cancer in the back of my right brain. I forgot the term, but he insisted that I immediately undergo intensive therapy and treatment, while it was still in stage one. However, I was too worried about my son and decided not to tell him anything about the cancer. I took the medicine given by Dr. James secretly and focused more on Charles and his efforts to have children. My late husband's family, Charles' fat
Seven years laterNicholas put his bag on the side of the sofa and untied his tie, walking slowly so as not to make a sound.Nathalie did not move, lying sideways on the sofa, looking very soundly. She did not even wake up when Nicholas kissed her forehead.Nicholas walked into the kitchen and saw Madam Olla boiling something in a pan. The aroma of spices that should have filled the air in the kitchen."Madam, what is that you are boiling?" Nicholas asked while pulling out the dining chair.Madam Olla turned her head. "Oh, you're home, sir? Why didn't you make a sound, it just surprised me."Nicholas smiled. "Nathalie is sleeping on the sofa. I didn't want to disturb her."Madam Olla turned off the stove and quickly made coffee for Nicholas."She must be tired," said Madam Olla. "Since the morning after you left for the office and the children went to school, she vomited several times and said her head hurt. I made her ginger and turmeric to help relieve her symptoms because she shoul
