Dillon’s POV

“How about the Lighthouse Bar and Grill? I think that’s a pretty romantic spot. It overlooks the water?”

I nodded. I’d called up my friend, Sam, the doctor who had seen Cassandra, to ask for restaurant recommendations. He was a real foodie so he knew all the best places in town. Plus, he also knew Cassandra so I figured he might have some insight into a great place to take her.

“I’ve never been there but it has good reviews,” I told him.

“Or, if you want to go super classy and high-end, there’s always ‘Le Fromage’. How does Cassandra feel about French food?”

I smiled to myself, remembering a night together recently when I made her French onion soup. She’d told me she loved it. Apparently, the cuisine was one of the reasons she liked going to Paris.

“She’d really like that,” I told him. “Sold!”

I thanked him and then hung up, turning my attention to tracking down the number for Le Fromage so I could make a reservation.

But then I paused. Was the restaurant good enough? I n

Cassandra’s POVI drove to the assigned place, my hands gripped firmly on the steering wheel. I told myself over and over to just stay calm, that I could do this. Part of me couldn’t believe that this was really happening. I was on my way to meet kidnappers. It felt so surreal.I was aware that Cameron was tailing me, but he was doing a good job of keeping his distance. I only saw him once or twice in the rear view mirror. The address brought me to a docking area right by the water. It was isolated. I saw the two men in black waiting by a shipping container. It looked like a scene out of a movie.Oh god, was that where Stella was? Inside a shipping container? Was she hurt? Was she okay?I pulled up close, my heart pounding in my chest.“Get out,” one of the men ordered.I did as he said, assuming he was going to bring me inside the container. But just then, a car pulled out from behind the container. The windows were tinted so I couldn’t see who was driving.“Get in,” one of the men sa

Cassandra’s POVThere was no one else in the room so I rushed over to Stella. She had a gag in her mouth but her eyes flew open when she saw me. Relief flooded over me. She looked tired and her hair was a mess, but other than that, she looked okay.I removed the gag from her mouth.“Cassandra!” she said, shocked. “What are you doing here? No. You shouldn’t be here. Please, go before you get hurt.” Her face was frantic.“Your kidnapper called me and told me to come. Of course I came.”“Are you here all by yourself?” she asked, aghast.I thought about Cameron. Was there any chance he’d been able to follow us? I highly doubted it.“I had to come alone,” I told her. “And I’m not leaving you,” I said firmly to Stella. Then I bent down and untied her legs and her arms behind her back. She rubbed her wrists. She had nasty rope burns from being tied up and I could tell it hurt.“Are you okay?” I asked, helping her stand.“Yeah. I think so. Just thirsty. And hungry. Where are we?”“I have no id

Cassandra’s POVEllie smiled at us both smugly.“Ellie?” Stella gasped. But I wasn’t surprised. I’d suspected that Ellie behind this right from the start. She’d gone missing after she was bailed out of jail. I knew how much she hated me and her hatred was too deep for her to just let things go. Jordyn had been trying to track her down, but I’d had a sinking suspicion that she was just waiting to make her next move.As soon as I received the text message informing me that Stella had been kidnapped, Ellie was the first person I thought of. I didn’t say anything to Cameron about my suspicions. I didn’t see the point. Instead, I’d called Jordyn as soon as I got in my car to meet the kidnappers.I told him about the text messages.“You think Ellie is behind this?” he’d asked, his voice tight.“I do,” I confessed to him as I drove through the streets. I told him I was on my way to meet Stella’s kidnappers. He got angry and told me that was too dangerous. I defended my decision. Stella was my

Cassandra’s POVI stared at the picture of a younger Ellie.“I don’t understand,” I told her, glancing back and forth from Ellie to the picture.“It’s all you fault,” she said in a huff, snatching back the picture and stuffing it back into her purse.“Um, you’re going to have to give a little more to go on,” Stella said. She was as confused as I was. I failed to see what Ellie’s parents had to do with any of this. Just as I failed to see how I had anything to do with her parents.“They died because of you,” Ellie seethed at me. “They never stood a chance in jail. My mother wasn’t that type of person. She was kind and sweet. They only lasted a few weeks before they were both murdered. My mother died in her cell from dehydration and my father was stabbed to death with a fork in the dining room.”“Oh,” I replied, not really sure what to make of this. I had no idea that both of Ellie’s parents had been killed. Hell, I didn’t even know her parents had gone to jail. Is that where Ellie got h

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 118: Setting Differences Aside

Dillon’s POVThere was a loud knock on my door. Cameron looked up from his phone with a quizzical look. We were at my house, in my kitchen, studying the pictures that Cassandra had forwarded us from her phone.Cameron had tried to tail Cassandra’s kidnappers, but they’d lost him pretty easily. He was furious at himself when he called me back for losing them, but I assured him that he’d done his best. I told him to come to my house so we could go over everything that had happened and come up with a plan. The person knocked again.“Who the hell could that be?” Cameron asked.“It’s Jordyn,” I told him. Cameron lifted an eyebrow.“You can’t be serious,” he told me. “Why is he here?”I sighed deeply. Yes, Jordyn wasn’t my favorite person in the world. But Cassandra and Stella were in trouble. So I decided to put aside our differences so we could focus on finding them.“I called him,” Dillon said. “I think he can help. And honestly, don’t we need all the help we can get right now?”Cameron t

Dillon’s POV“It’s not far from here,” Jordyn said, showing us the location on his map. “It’s an abandoned warehouse.” Then he paused and inhaled a sharp breath. “Oh my God,” he said.“What is it?” Cameron and I both asked at the same time.“That’s Ellie’s sweater. Right there. In the picture. I can’t believe I didn’t see it before.”He pointed to a sweater on the ground near the chair in the picture.“How do you know?” I asked. I mean, it looked like any other sweater to me.“I gave her that sweater for her birthday,” Jordyn told us. “I ordered it from France. She had gemstones added to the cuffs, right there.” He pointed again. My heart sank. I’d had a feeling Ellie was behind this.“This is fucking unbelievable,” Jordyn sighed. “Why would Ellie kidnap Stella?” he mused out loud.“To draw Cassandra in.” It was Cameron who said it.“Shit. I think you’re right. I have no idea how she kidnapped Stella, but I think she’s using her as bait,” Jordyn replied.“I think so too,” I added. “The

Cassandra’s POV“Ellie, you can’t possibly blame my family for your parents’ death,” I said. Ellie was pacing around the small room, a menacing look in her eye. Stella was standing beside me, clutching my wrist.“Of course I do,” she said. “Who else is there to blame?”“I’m very sorry that that happened to you,” I told her. “But I don’t see what I can do…”“Shut up,” Ellie snapped. “I know what you’re going to say, you righteous bitch. You’re going to yammer on about how kidnapping you won’t make up for my parents’ death.”I snapped my mouth shut. That was exactly what I was going to see. An uneasiness washed over me. What were Ellie’s intentions, really? What was she planning on doing to us?“You’re going to tell me that two wrongs don’t make a right,” Ellie scoffed. She stopped pacing and faced us, a maniacal smile on her face. “But I think they do,” she said, her smile spreading wide across her face. “I believe in ‘an eye for an eye.’ That’s why I brought you here.”“Cassandra,” Ste

Cassandra’s POV “Dillon!” I cried out. His face scanned the room, his eyes wild. Jordyn and Cameron both appeared behind him. “Cassandra,” he said, taking a step. But I stopped him. “Watch out. She has a gun,” I hollered. I had no idea how the men had found us. Cameron had tried to tail the black car, but it had lost him. I’d never been so relieved to see any one in my whole life though. However, my relief was short-lived. It quickly gave way to fear. “No,” I said, shaking my hand. “Get out of here. All of you!” I didn’t want them here. Ellie had a gun and she had completely lost her mind. I was terrified that seeing Jordyn, Cameron, and Dillon would set her off and she’d start firing at us. The men all whipped their heads towards Ellie. She was in the corner of the room, a shocked look on her face. “What the fuck?” she said. “How did you find us?” “That picture you sent of Stella bound t

Cassandra’s POVI felt an explosion rip through my body as his lips pressed into mine. Dillon had taken me by surprise, showing up at my bungalow in the middle of the night like this. But the moment we kissed, all I could think about was how badly I wanted him.Our lips parted and our kiss deepened. He curled his fingers into my hair.“Cassandra,” he whispered in between kisses. “I love you.”He moved his lips to my neck and I let my head fall back. I pressed into him, digging my fingers into his strong shoulders and back. I could feel the heat of his chest through his clothes. An ache sparked deep in my stomach, and then between my legs. I craved him.“I love you,” he said again, tracing kisses all along my neck. He brought his lips to my ear. “God, I love you. I love you so much.”We were both breathing heavy. For a moment, I couldn’t believe this was really happening. Was I actually kissing Dillon? His words made me weak in the knees. He lifted me up then. I wrapped my legs around h

Dillon’s POVI was mildly disappointed when Cassandra had to take Stella back to the room, I’m not going to lie. But I completely understood. Stella was Cass’s best friend, and I knew Stella would do the same for her. So once again, my dreams of the perfect moment on the beach were dashed.Cameron wasn’t the least bit upset though. He was rearing to go, so off we went, to a bar. We decided there was no point in staying at the dance, since we no longer had anyone to dance with. And honestly, it was getting a bit too hot out there, with the warm tropical breeze AND the bonfire. So we went inside where it was air-conditioned and chose one of the many bars. The one we went to wasn’t too busy, so we sat right at the bar.“Two whiskeys. Neat,” Cameron said to the bartender.“You know I’m not a big fan of whiskey,” I started to remind him, but he cut me off.“You are tonight, my friend,” he said with a mischievous smile.I wasn’t sure about this. Cameron clearly looked like he wanted to ‘tie

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 171: Can’t wait anymore

Cassandra’s POVThe moment we were back in our bungalow, Stella ran for the bathroom. I heard her vomiting as I took off my shoes. I was sympathetic, even if she was ruining a romantic evening with Dillon. She'd had a bit too much to drink and now she felt like crap. I’d been there. It sucked. So, I went into the bathroom and knelt down beside her. I held her hair back while she vomited again. I winced at the acrid smell of her vomit, but I rubbed her back.“The drinks taste way better going down than going in,” she said.“I know,” I chuckled. “It’s okay. Just get it all out.”“I ruined your night,” she said, resting her cheek on the toilet seat.“Oh honey. No. Don’t put your face on that. Here.” I grabbed a face cloth and put it on the toilet boil.“I think I got a little drunk,” Stella said. She looked at me, frowning. Her mascara was smudged all over her eyes and her lipstick was smeared. Her hair hung around her cheeks, damp from the cold sweat of throwing up.“I think you did too,

Cassandra’s POVI placed my hand in Dillon’s and he led me onto the dance floor, just as the song switched to a slow song.“Well, look at that,” he smiled, acknowledging that the music had changed. “It appears fate is on our side tonight.”I nodded and he placed his arm on the small of my back. I went to wrap my arms around his neck, like I always did when I slow dance, but he stopped me.“No, here, Cassandra,” he said, holding up one of his hands. “Put your hand on my shoulder, like this. And then put your other hand in mine.”It was a waltz position. I knew it from my cotillion, when I’d ‘come out’ to society as a young woman. It was a time-honored tradition, and my mother had made me do it. It was a silly ritual, where young women wear fancy dresses and are ‘announced’ in front of a large crowd of super wealthy people also wearing fancy clothes. I’d rolled my eyes at the whole thing, but part of the process had been learning how to waltz. So I knew the position Dillon and I were tak

  • Divorce and Regret, His Ex-wife is a Billionaire   Chapter 169: Bonfire on the Beach

Cassandra’s POVThe afternoon flew by, as did the early evening. We all just sort of hung out together on the beach, resting and relaxing. We’d had a really busy past couple of days, and we all needed the downtime. The resort was hosting a big beach dance that night, complete with bonfire, so we had a quick dinner together, then went back to our bungalows to shower off and get changed. Two hours later, we were sitting at a table right on the beach. The resort had gone all out, and there was a massive bonfire burning beside us, the flames licking the night air. Stella and I had been given another lai when we arrived, as well as flower wreaths for our hair. The dance featured entertainment before the actual dance started, and we all watched the Polynesian entertainers in complete awe. Some of them twirled fire sticks, while some danced. Others drummed, a steady, rhythmic sound that became almost hypnotic. We sipped our drinks, but I couldn’t help notice that Stella was sipping hers a lit

Dillon’s POVI was surprised that the girls didn’t want to swim with the sharks. As soon as I heard about the excursion, I signed us all up, thinking it would be a fun adventure. But clearly, the girls had other plans.“Don’t worry about it,” Cameron told me as we got to the cove. “This isn’t their sort of thing. No big deal. I’m super excited to see some sharks.”I shrugged.I guess Cam was right. I mean, I was trying to impress Cassandra at every turn, but I should have known this wasn’t something the girls would appreciate.Or want to do at all.I was glad Cameron did though. Because honestly, I really wanted to swim with the sharks. We saw a total of two sharks. Tiny sharks. Like baby ones. It was a total let down.“That’s it?” I asked the tour guide when he told us it was time to go back. “I feel like this was advertised as something it’s not.”“I don’t control the sharks,” he shrugged. “Sometimes they’re here, sometimes they’re not. At least you some though.”“I guess,” I shrugge

Cassandra’s POV Snorkeling. That was Dillon’s big surprise of the day.I had to admit, I was a little hesitant at first. I wasn’t the strongest swimmer, and I felt ridiculous with snorkel and mask on my face. I didn’t even really like fish to be honest. But we were with a guide who specialized in this sort of thing and he assured us it would be a blast.Plus, Dillon was so excited. He was chatting away with Cam about all sorts of different fish. So, I decided to be positive and embrace the experience. The snorkeling was within walking distance of the resort. There was a special area where, apparently, an abundance of sea life made a daily appearance.I tried to put on my mask, but my air pipe thingy kept pointing downward instead of up.“Here, let me,” Dillon chuckled, his green eyes sparkling. He took the mask off my face and then fixed it. He put it back on me. It smushed my cheeks.“Better?” he asked, taking me by the shoulders.I swooned.“Uh huh,” I said through my mask, giving h

Cassandra’s POVI slept like a log. Even though I hadn’t wanted the night to end, I was exhausted from the long day. I didn’t even realize how tired I was until I climbed into bed. The down comforter and high-thread count sheets beckoned me to sleep.I woke up to the early morning sun flooding through our massive windows. For a moment, I forgot where I was. But then I looked out at the ocean.Right. I was in Bora Bora.Bits and pieces of the night before flashed through my mind. Our wonderful dinner, the walk on the beach. The feel of Dillon’s fingers on my cheek as he brushed the hair off my cheek. Then the karaoke bar and his song.“I plan on touching you plenty.”I bolted upright.I was in love with Dillon. And he had flirted with me. Stella had cut our conversation on the beach short, but I was pretty convinced at this point that Dillon felt the same way about me. I smiled languidly to myself and stretched my arms over my head.Last night, I’d been a little worried that maybe Dillo

Cassandra’s POVDillon finished the song to raucous applause. Cameron and Stella leapt to their feet. I stayed fixed in my chair, stunned by the realization I’d just had.I was in love Dillon. The words swam through my mind. I mean, I knew that I had feelings for him. Intense, deep feelings. And I knew that I was very sexually attracted to him. I also knew that I cared for him very deeply. And yes, I knew I loved him. When he’d been shot and I’d sat with him in the back of the ambulance, my heart had ached thinking I might lose him. I’d been a complete and utter nervous wreck at the hospital, waiting to see if he would live or die.So of course I loved him.I just hadn’t realized I was IN love with him.Dillon came back to the table, his cheeks flushed, a broad smile on his face.“Well?” he asked, looking at me. “What did you think? Did I do your favorite song justice?”That was an understatement. His voice echoed through my mind, the look in his eyes as he sang. I suddenly felt very
