Cassandra’s POV

What?!

I felt like I’d just been punched in the stomach. Surely, I hadn’t heard her right. She’d just said that she was….Dillon’s ex-wife?

But that wasn’t possible. Dillon had never been married.

I looked to Cameron, confusion all over my face. Cameron shrugged, and pressed his lips together.

“Sorry, Cass. I should have told you. I just…I didn’t feel like it was my story to tell. You know?”

I shook my head at Cameron. Yes! You should have told me! That’s what I yelled in my head, but I was desperate to keep my composure, which meant keeping my mouth shut.

Stella apparently didn’t feel the need to do the same though.

“What…the actual…fuck?” she asked, approaching us. “Did you just say…” She pointed and flicked her finger back and forth between us all… “I must have heard you wrong. Because I thought you just said that you’re Dillon’s ex-wife.”

Leave it to Stella to be blunt as hell.

“I did,” Laura sighed. She rubbed her hands in front of her. “I’m sorry you had to find ou

Cassandra’s POV “Cassandra?” Stella said, searching my face. “Is something wrong? I know this is a lot to process, but I expected you to be at least a bit excited. Instead, you look like you’ve seen a ghost.” My face was pale. I was sure of it. My palms were sweaty and my heart was racing. Stella’s plan was so well thought out and so well-executed. And it all would have worked but… I’d taken out a massive loan and we owed the bank a lot of money. I didn’t know what to do. I wanted this as badly as Stella but I didn’t know how to tell her that our funds were currently tied up. Maybe if I could just stall? If I could convince her to put off this expansion, just for a little while longer. Just until I completed some big orders and the clients paid. Then I could square off the loan and we’d have the money to make this dream a reality. “Stella, this is amazing,” I told her, choosing my words carefully. She let ou

Cassandra’s POV Stella smiled at me, a bit nervously, I had to admit. I smiled back, also nervously. If this meeting was about the fact that I’d taken out a loan, using our company as collateral without Stella’s knowledge…well…I had no idea what I was going to say. I never should have done that, but my back was up against the wall. I didn’t see any other options, and I’d just been doing what I thought was best for our company at the time. My signature was on the bill to the venue and Jordyn hadn’t been able to pay it. They could have forced us to pay it through a collection’s agency. That could have garnered us some negative press, and that was the last thing I wanted for Hot House Flower. But Stella and I were co-owners, and I never should have taken out the loan without telling her. We were partners. I’d betrayed her. Or at least, that’s how it felt. “Okay,” Stella said, inhaling a sharp breath. She had some folders splayed out on her desk

Cassandra’s POV Two Weeks Later…Stella stepped into my office, a huge grin on her face.“Are you sure there’s nothing I can do? To help with the engagement party?”I shook my head. “Nothing,” I smiled at her. “I’m your Maid of Honor, and I want to do this for you.”She came and took a seat across from me. I knew it was killing her, not having any control over her own engagement party. But that was part of the fun. She’d told me the theme and from there, I’d planned everything else. The party was only a week away, but all the details were sorted out. The theme was 1920s. Dillon had offered up his bar, the Vicious Circle for the night. We were going to deck out the whole place to look like a speak easy. I’d hired a jazz band, and some flapper dancers. The invites instructed guests to come dressed in costumes from the era. I already had my own costume arranged, a short, silver dress with a fringe, fashioned after Roxie from the musical Chicago. I even rented a blonde wig with pin curls

Jordyn’s POV My blood boiled just looking at Brock’s smug face. He walked towards me and I tried to steady my breathing. I wanted nothing more than to feel my fist on his face. But this was my grandfather’s celebration of life, and I couldn’t make a scene. Especially not before I told my father. He deserved to know in a private conversation, not in front of all these people in a brawl. So, I just stood and glared as Brock made his way past me without even so much as a glance and sauntered into the didn’t room.I didn’t know what my mother saw in him, other than the fact that he was young and good-looking. I guess my mother wanted a trophy husband, a little prized possession she could show off at events. She’d had to stay married to my father until Stanley passed away. Those were the conditions of her inheritance.Did she actually love this man, Brock? I highly doubted it. But who the hell knew? My mother was erratic and her motives were impossible to understand. Was she even capable

Jordyn’s POV “I’m so sorry for your loss,” an elderly woman told me, kissing me on the cheek. If I had a dollar for every time I’d heard that exact sentence that afternoon, I could have saved my company from financial ruin. I nodded politely and thanked her, even though I had no idea who the hell she was. Honestly, I didn’t know who half these people were. But it didn’t matter. I had to play host. So I stood in the corner of the living room, accepting condolences, waiting for the minutes to tick by. Hearing that my mother was a cheating slut didn’t exactly sit well with me. I’d lied and told Cassandra I already knew, and made up some cockamamy story about the estate video surveillance. My mother would never be stupid enough to get caught like that. But Cassandra had bought my story. The truth was, I’d had no idea that my mother was having an affair. Cassandra’s words had cut like a knife right to my heart. My mother was sleeping with Brock?

Cassandra’s POV Jordyn was hovering in a corner, a drink in hand, watching the people in his living room with an expressionless face. My heart lurched. This wasn’t going to be an easy conversation. I wasn’t looking forward to telling Jordyn what I’d just heard. His mother was a liar and a criminal. She’d tried to kill his own grandfather and blackmailed his fiancé. She was cheating on her husband, Jordyn’s father, with a man half her age.No one wanted to be the bearer of THAT sort of news. Dillon’s held my hand firmly as we made our way through the crowd towards Jordyn. He saw us approaching. His expression didn’t change. “Come to pay your respects?” he sighed heavily. Then he tossed back his drink in one giant swig. “Good turn out, huh? My grandfather would have been happy.” I could hear the pain in Jordyn’s voice. He had really loved Stanley. Since Jordyn’s own father had been gone a lot of the time, Stanley had been a father f
