When Victor’s father finally drifted back to sleep, Elara’s restraint shattered.

“I need to talk to you. Now.”

Her voice was low but sharp enough to cut through the quiet of the hospital. Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out. Victor followed.

When Victor’s father finally drifted back to sleep, Elara’s restraint shattered.“I need to talk to you. Now.”Her voice was low but sharp enough to cut through the quiet of the hospital. Without waiting for a response, she turned and walked out. Victor followed. They sat just outside the ward, the distant hum of machines and muffled voices filling the silence between them.Elara turned to him, her eyes blazing.“How dare you?” she snapped. “How dare you lie to Father tell him we’re still together? I know he’s sick, but you… you must have planted that idea in his head. It’s you. It has to be you.”Victor said nothing.“But listen carefully,” she continued, her voice dropping into something colder, more final. “We are never getting back together. I will never forgive you, Victor. No matter what happens, remember that. Elara will never forgive you… and neither will my son.”The words hung heavily in the air.Victor exhaled slowly, running a hand through his hair. Then, for the first tim

Victor had nothing left to do.Slowly, almost reluctantly, he made his way back to Elara’s company. Before he could even sit at his desk, Elara was already there, standing beside it, her presence sharp and unwelcoming.“Don’t ever take on something you can’t handle,” she said coldly, her eyes cutting into him. “I’m warning you.”She didn’t wait for a response.“I need an iced coffee on my desk. Now.”With that, she turned and walked into her office, slamming the door behind her.Victor stood there for a moment, wordless. Then, quietly, he forced his tired, burdened body to move.To the room where tea and coffee were prepared, he poured the drink carefully. But his mind was no longer there. It had drifted… back to the hospital. To his father. What if he keeps asking for us… for me and Elara… every single day?His grip tightened slightly. Will Elara agree?A pause.Would she ever…?The thought consumed him so deeply that he didn’t notice the coffee spilling over, dripping onto the floo

Victor rushed back to the city without stopping. He didn’t even have time to freshen up. Dust clung to his clothes, his hands still bore the marks of labor, but none of it mattered now.Despite everything… despite the distance between them, the harsh words, the quiet disappointments his father was still his father. And somewhere deep within, Victor still loved him.His father had never truly hated him. He had only been disappointed… disappointed in the choices Victor had made, in the life he had chosen.Victor exhaled heavily as he reached the hospital.Inside, he found Martin seated beside the bed.At the sight of him, Martin stood up quickly. “Victor… you’re here.”“Yes,” Victor replied, moving closer. “What happened?”He took Martin’s place beside the bed, his eyes scanning his father’s pale face.“I’m not entirely sure,” Martin admitted. “His blood pressure suddenly shot up.”Victor nodded slowly. “But he’ll be okay… right?”“He should be.”Victor let out a quiet breath. “Thank yo

Victor woke up feeling unusually energetic. For some reason, he was smiling from ear to ear.Hellen noticed immediately. “Are you feeling better, my son?” she asked gently. He nodded, still smiling.“But I suppose you’ll be leaving today…” she added, her tone soft with disappointment.Victor shook his head. “No. I’m not leaving today. I’ll stay here until the job is done.”“Really?” Hellen asked, her face lighting up with a warm smile. She had grown unexpectedly fond of him, and he, too, had come to appreciate her kindness.“Oh, that’s wonderful! Should I make you some porridge?”Victor nodded. He couldn’t bring himself to refuse the poor woman. She soon returned with a bowl of warm porridge, and he ate quietly.“I’ll be back in the evening,” he said as he stood to leave.“It’s alright,” Hellen replied. “I’ll even bring you food.”“Thank you so much.”He waved and left.Ever since Elara had walked out of his life, no one had cared for him the way Hellen was doing now. It was a strange

When Victor woke, he found himself surrounded by a crowd of concerned faces. He let out a heavy sigh.“You’re awake,” Hellen said softly.Mark stepped forward, his expression tense. “You’re okay now?”Victor nodded weakly, trying to focus. “What… happened?” he asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.“You fell sick,” Hellen replied, “and we rushed you here.”Victor groaned, pressing a hand to his throbbing head. “Oh… my head…”Hellen hurried off to fetch water, returning moments later with a glass and a pill. He handed it to Victor. Reluctantly, Victor swallowed it and sank back onto the mat, exhausted.Thirty minutes passed in quiet relief. Finally, Victor cracked. “Where… is Elara?”The question hung in the air, and the others exchanged confused glances.“Elara?” Hellen asked slowly. It took a moment, then it hit him . “Oh… you I mean Zara,” someone he said correcting themself awkwardly because to them she was Zara.Zara had gone on an emergency, leaving in a rush. She had loo

When Victor woke, Elara was already gone from the small house. He stepped outside, moving slowly, as though every limb carried a hidden weight. The morning air was cool, yet it did nothing to ease the heaviness in his body. His face had lost its color; he looked almost ghostlike.Hellen was the first to notice him.“Victor… are you alright? You look so pale. Did your condition worsen?”He let out a quiet chuckle, though it was laced with discomfort.“No, no… I’m feeling better.”But even as he spoke, his eyes drifted past her.Elara was already outside. She stood a short distance away, speaking to a group of men. Her posture was firm, her voice steady every inch of her carried authority. When her gaze shifted in his direction, Victor quickly looked away, pretending he hadn’t been watching. He already knew… nothing good would come from that encounter.Moments later, she approached him.Up close, her expression was unreadable. She let out a small sigh before speaking.“We’re short on la

The lights suddenly came back on.Victor was holding Elara close to his chest. It took them a few seconds to realize the lights had returned. When Elara opened her eyes, she froze. She was in the arms of the man she disliked the most.Shock flashed across her face.Immediately, she pushed him away

Victor returned to his house feeling completely drained. Every step toward his bedroom felt heavy, as if the weight of the day clung to him. Victor stared at the paper until the numbers blurred. Daniel was his.
