"Renee, you've had enough."

Adam finally lost his patience. He stood up, walked over, and wrapped an arm around her waist. Glancing at Jasper, he smiled stiffly.

"Sorry about this, Mr. Zeller. My wife can't really hold her liquor. I'll take her home."

"Who says I'm drunk? I'm not drunk!"

Her legs were wobbly, but her mind was still clear. And now, with the alcohol loosening her restraint, she no longer bothered to hide how she felt.

She shoved Adam's hand away, her voice sharp. "Get your hands off me!"

God, she hated him.

Jasper's cool voice broke the tense air. "It's getting late. I should get going, too."

Since he was the guest of honor, everyone else followed suit. After he said that, they started gathering their things to leave.

Julian walked over and gave Adam a pat on the shoulder, signaling that he would go settle the bill. Adam gave him a quick nod, then turned back to Renee, ready to help her out.
