I was still seated on the bed, thinking of what to do when I heard a soft knock on the door. I ignored it, thinking it was Edward. I wasn't in the mood to see him or hear what he had to say.

"Mommy, are you in there?" Jace’s muffled voice came through, and I stood up from the bed. I wiped my face with my palm and sniffled softly, staring at my reflection in the mirror before walking to the door.

"Yes, baby," I said as I opened the door. Immediately he saw me, he wrapped his hands around my waist in a hug. I patted him softly on the back, and then he looked up at my face with a smile. "Aren’t you adorable."

He chuckled. "I love you, Mommy."

I smiled genuinely. Seeing Jace happy was enough to make me forget whatever had made me sad not long ago. "I love you too, my sweet child."

I took Jace’s little finger, and we walked back to the bed. I helped him climb up before sitting next to him. My mind drifted to Edward again, and I felt my heart breaking once more.
