Never in my entire life have I ever done anything as quickly as I did with finalizing the Holloway deal. To be completely honest, I was barely paying attention to anything that was said at the table. All I cared about was the yes, and once they signed the papers we'd come along with, everything was set.

And now I could devote my complete attention to the hottest man I'd ever met.

I was a mess as I hurried over to the elevator, barely paying attention to Rachel and Blake as they said they wanted to hang out a bit longer. When Nathaniel Holloway tried to run after me, I ducked behind a large man wearing a turban and rushed to Ethan's side. He was already standing in front of the elevator, and when he turned to face me, a shiver ran down my spine. He looked so handsome with three buttons undone, his bare chest looking so inviting. A shadow hung over his eyes, making him look so sexy that my brain couldn't properly function.

I was so turned on at that moment that a part of me wanted hi

Alright. I’m just going to say it. There’s nothing on earth that beats the feeling of waking up in the morning after being thoroughly dicked down the previous night. Ethan and I had gone four more rounds after the first time, and by the time I slept off, I was completely exhausted. I actually woke up with a smile on my face. And as my eyes fluttered open and I found Ethan staring back at me with a smile, my grin widened as I inched towards him and let him wrap his arm over me. “Good morning,” I whispered. “Hi Cupcake,” he replied, kissing me on the nose. “You look so pretty today.”“Don’t start,” I said, rolling my eyes. We were both completely naked under the covers, and I could feel his erection poking against my stomach. I immediately started to blush, and he must have known I was feeling awkward because he actually flicked it a few times, causing me to roll away from him. “Oh no, you don’t,” he chuckled, pulling me back and wrapping his arms around me. Where do you think you

I rushed into the office, thinking there was an emergency. Nate hadn’t answered my calls, and I thought something had gone seriously wrong. Even though I didn’t want to leave Ethan, he told me that he understood that I had to leave, and he even walked me to the cab. I was panicking by then, thinking the deal was about to be called off. So imagine my surprise when I walked into the conference room and find Nate sitting at the table casually, feet up on the table like he owned the fucking building, and a few faces I recognized from the party last night sitting with him and laughing at something he’d said. What the actual fuck?Nate lifted his head and noticed that I was standing right there, and a grin spread across his face as he said, “Oh, hi, Livia. Fancy meeting you here.” “What’s going on?” I asked. “Your text made it sound like something urgent was going on.”“Sorry about that,” he said. “I just needed to make sure you would get here on time. We need this deal finalized today,

ETHANI know I’m an asshole. Liv doesn’t deserve this. I know it as well as I know the back of my hand. But I can’t stop myself sometimes. It’s not like I’m trying to sound like a jealous piece of shit. And it’s not like I don’t trust her. I do. I trust her with my life. I know that I would move heaven and earth for her. But every time I hear that fucking Nathaniel Holloway’s name, I just feel like punching someone Why couldn’t she see him for what he was? It was obvious that he was trying to get under my skin, and he was doing it specifically by targeting her because he knew that was the perfect way to get to me. It was just like him to try something as underhanded as this. The Holloways were like a thorn in my side. They’d always been there, lingering in the shadows and causing a mess wherever they went. I still hadn’t forgotten about the Wrexham incident seventeen years ago, which was the first thing that made our father’s illness known. Everyone told me it didn’t mean anything,

“Toothbrush?”“Check.”“Makeup kit?”“Check.”“Fishing gear?”“Check.”“Sexy lingerie?”“Check.”“Secret gift that will definitely make you the best girlfriend ever?”“Check,” I said, waving the package in front of Rachel. We were standing by the door, waiting for Ethan to pick me up so we could head to the cabin together. Storm clouds were gathered in the sky, and it was clearly going to rain soon. I was looking forward to sleeping during the drive, because I was fully exhausted. I’d stayed up all night planning an itinerary for us, as well as checking the town below the mountain to see if there were any fun activities we could do so we wouldn’t get bored. But apart from a local book club and a flea market, there was nothing else to see or do. And that was exactly what I wanted. Having Ethan all to myself was like an early Christmas gift. Finally, I wouldn’t have to deal with that awful feeling every time he had to leave, and I felt like my world was going to implode without him. I

The drive up to the cabin was long and exhausting. I fell asleep pretty much as soon as we left Manhattan, just as the rain started to fall and Ethan turned on some white noise on the speakers to help me sleep. I ended up dreaming of the first time my dad and I went hunting, and he taught me how to take down a deer. I woke up just as Ethan turned off the highway, and we turned onto a dirt road which was lined on either side by tall trees that formed a canopy overhead. It was late in the afternoon, and the rain was still falling. "Hi Cupcake," Ethan said as I sat up. "Welcome back to the land of the living.""How long was I asleep?" I asked, rubbing my eyes groggily. "An hour and forty five minutes," he replied. "I took seventeen pictures of you while you were asleep."I rolled my eyes and reached for my phone, before he quickly snatched it out of my hands. "Hey!" I shrieked. "What was that for?""No phones, remember?" he said. "You're stuck with me.""I just wanted to check the ti

Much to Ethan's dismay, we didn't end up showering together. Even though I knew that was what he wanted, I just couldn't stand the idea of us doing that while I was exhausted and smelled like sweat. Besides, knowing him, we wouldn't just be showering. After that, I set about making lunch. There were a few spices in the pantry and some spaghetti, with some corned beef in the fridge and some cheese. While I cooked, Ethan came over and helped me with the vegetables. We'd found the audio system in the house, and Ethan linked it to his Spotify so we could listen to music while we worked. To my surprise, he was an expert in the kitchen. He showed me how to hold the knife and slice the spinach in thin strips, and he knew the exact amount of spice to use so the sauce wouldn't turn out too sweet. "Where did you learn how to do this?" I asked."I spent a summer in Italy learning how to cook," he said with a shrug. "There was this pop-up culinary school that I attended with some friends, and

Someone up in heaven must have been praying for my bad luck, because as soon as Ethan left, the rain came down heavily once again. Every fibre of my being wanted to run after him and tell him to stay with me, but I couldn’t. That would make me seem like a lunatic. And I kept reminding myself that I trusted him, so there was no need to panic. Still, he was gone for almost two hours. I kept looking out the window and waiting for him to show up, but there was no sign of him anywhere. Across the lake, the light was still on over at Rosa’s place, which made me believe that he was still there. I kept trying to pick out his silhouette moving through the house, but that was impossible from this distance. Once I finished cooking, I made my way upstairs to the main bedroom and waited for him to return. I didn’t want to eat without him, so I decided to sit there and wait. But that was worse than torture. Since I didn’t have my phone, there was nothing to do besides worry and overthink and con

For a long time after Ethan said that, I just stared at him in silence. I didn't know what to say or how to act, and my mouth was completely ajar as I desperately tried to figure out what to say. Ethan couldn't meet my gaze after that. He stood up and walked away from me, and I didn't miss the tears in his eyes. He looked like he was completely broken, like he needed someone to pull him back from the edge of the darkness. Except I didn't know if I would be able to do that. I never thought I would have to face something like this. I never thought I would sit across from my boyfriend and hear him tell me that he was a murderer. It was one of those surreal moments that hit you like a truck, and you just didn't know how to process it. What was I supposed to say? How exactly was I supposed to process something like this? Should I just brush it off and tell him that it didn't matter? Should I talk about it until we got to the root of the problem and figured a way out of this mess? Everyt

For a long time after I left the office, I still couldn’t believe what happened. Even as I sat down at our new dining table and silently poked at my steak, it did nothing to stop the wave of nausea that was raging in my stomach. Ethan was talking beside me, but I was barely paying him any attention. He was saying something about knocking down the wall between the pantry and the laundry room, but all I could do was smile and nod when he looked up. All I could think about was Nate’s hand and his voice. I kept thinking about the way he looked at me like I was a piece of meat he owned, and that made me want to cry when I remembered it. I had replayed the scene over and over again on the drive home, trying to decide what was the right thing to do. Should I tell Ethan about it, knowing that he was going to lose his mind over it? Or should I talk to Joanna and tell her I couldn’t work with Nate again? A million other thoughts floated around in my head, but I just couldn’t figure out what

I still couldn’t believe that Ethan had bought the mansion just like that. He made it seem like it was a pair of shoes or a painting he liked. It all happened so fast, and I just couldn’t believe it. The first week was entirely chaotic. We spent our evenings shopping for furniture, arguing about the best fabric for the couch and whether a vintage record player was essential or rubbish (I won that round of arguing). I spent most days over at the house, telling the delivery men where to put things, and helping out where I could. Ethan suggested hiring an interior designer to handle everything, but there was something so cozy and comforting about doing it myself that I just wasn’t ready to give up. Besides, it wasn’t difficult at all. But the hardest part came the night Rachel flew back from her trip, and I had to tell her that I was moving out. From the moment she walked into our apartment and dropped her bags at the door, her face fell when she saw the boxes in the living room. There

MARCUSI didn't want to do it initially. He didn't deserve a quick death, after all. But sometimes, when someone pisses you off too much, you just have to take care of things. And when you find out that the bastard who tried to harm the woman you love was only going to a mental institution instead of the jail he deserved, you just have to take care of things yourself. I stood on the balcony and stared down at the city sparkling beneath me while a cold breeze swept past. The sun had already set, but Manhattan was still as loud as ever, with horns blaring down below, people yelling constantly , and the wailing of a siren in the distance. No one would notice me up here, staring down at them and savoring my latest victory. I took a slow sip of my whiskey, letting the warmth roll down the back of my throat as I leaned on the cold steel railing. The evening was perfect, and I couldn’t have been happier after getting the call. Chris was dead, just like I intended. The report said he’d be

From the moment we pulled up in front of the mansion, my mouth fell open and it stayed like that permanently. The house looked like something out of a movie. It was so huge, and my eyes nearly rolled back into my skull as we walked in. There was a grand staircase which swept upward like it belonged in a castle, and sunlight streamed in through the large windows which made everything look so bright and golden."You've got to be kidding me," I whispered, taking in the beauty of the house. "This is actually insane.""Wait til you see the kitchen," Ethan said as he walked up behind me and took my hand in his. "You could set up a football game in it"When we walked into the kitchen, I knew he wasn't exaggerating. There were two kitchen islands which were so far apart that you probably couldn't even smell what someone was cooking from across the kitchen. There were so many shelves and drawers that it looked more like a convenience store than a home kitchen. Every room we walked into fel

Ethan was discharged the very next day, and I took him back to my apartment. Rachel had traveled down to Miami for a conference, so it was just the two of us in the house. After he’d taken a shower and eaten the lunch I prepared, he immediately sat down to call a real estate agent. “Is that really necessary?” I asked as I packed up the plates from the dining table. “Shouldn’t you be getting some rest?”“I’ll rest once we have our new home,” he said. “Buying a house usually takes a very long time to process, and I don’t have the time nor the patience to wait too long. The sooner we get started, the quicker we can be done with this.”I left him to his phone call, while I washed up in the kitchen. I could hear him talking in a sharp tone, using his CEO voice where he made it obvious that things were going to go his way, no matter what. I could have sat down and stared at him for hours when he talked like that, but I had other things to do. Like calling Richard Jones and telling him wha

I'd thought about seeing Marcus face to face again for a very long time now. I'd imagined standing across from him, looking dead into his eyes and showing him that I wasn't afraid of him anymore. I'd thought about how I was going to stand my ground, and not let him see the fear he'd once inflicted upon me. But standing right there in front of him, looking into those malicious eyes that had tormented me for years, I just couldn't do it. My knees began to shake, and I almost buckled to the ground in terror as the world fell away and it was just the two of us.And then he started to walk towards me. It took every bit of strength in me to not turn around and flee. I visibly shrank the closer he got, and a wave of panic washed over me as I realized that I had nowhere to go. If I turned and ran now, then I would be running for the rest of my life. And that was the last thing I wanted. So I stood my ground, stuck out my chin defiantly, and looked him dead in the eye. I took a deep breath

For a while, I just sat there and stared at Nate. I couldn't process the fact that he was here, and as my brain slowly booted up again, I felt Ethan tense beside me. "Nate, what are you doing here?" I asked. "Offering my condolences," he said. "I heard about the accident, and I just knew I had to come here as soon as I returned."He was more tanned than the last time I'd seen him, and his hair was a little bit longer. He looked like he'd come straight from the beach, in his plain white shirt and khaki pants. It was so different from the man in the tailored suit who strutted about like he owned the building. And yet, even now, there was an air of confidence about him as he stood in the middle of the room and stared at us. “Why the long faces?” he asked. “Did someone die?”“What the fuck are you doing here?” Ethan asked, attempting to stand up before I held him down. “I heard you were sick,” Nate said. “Oh, I mean shot. It’s all over the news. I just got back from Paris, so I though

Ethan ended up taking longer than we expected to get discharged, and he ended up staying in the hospital for two weeks. During that time, he had to get a lot of therapy so he could move his left arm again, because some nerves had been damaged and they needed to heal properly. I stayed with him the entire time, only leaving to shower and get a new batch of clean clothes when I had to. But otherwise, we just sat together and talked. He wasn't in too much pain, so mostly we had enough time to just sit and talk about life. It was on the thirteenth day that we spoke about what he told me in the cabin. He didn't want to talk about it when I brought it up, but I managed to convince him that it was necessary. This was the only way to clear his conscience, so he could finally be free of the guilt that he had carried after all these years. "But what if we find out that I was the one who killed him?" he asked quietly, staring out the window. "What if it's confirmed that I'm a murderer?""I kn

MARCUSI swear I could smell the pig even from outside the door. My blood was boiling even before I walked into the room, but it took a monumental effort to keep myself in check. I had to be quick. It shouldn't take longer than five minutes. Thankfully, the cop standing by the door didn't say anything as I walked in. He just gave me a polite nod, and he stepped aside as I walked in and shut the door behind me.Chris looked like a man who’d gotten into a cage fight with a gorilla. He was bruised all over, and several parts of his face were swollen, with one eye almost completely shut. His bottom lip was split open like a rotten fruit, and both of his hands were cuffed to the bedrails as if he was some sort of rabid animal. It was an amusing sight, which perfectly suited the bastard who’d tried to take Olivia from me. He shifted slightly when he saw me, then he flinched in terror. I saw the recognition in his bloodshot eyes, then confusion as he blinked several times, then something
