Calix's pov

The repeated vibration of my phone against the polished surface of my desk kept interrupting my thoughts. I stood by the window, the documents Delilah had found still clutched in my hand. Her bitter laugh and the hurt in her eyes kept replaying in my head. I hadn’t left my home office since she stormed out.

My phone buzzed again—the fourth ping in less than five minutes. I assumed it was just business updates, so I ignored it. Another buzz followed. Then the phone vibrated again, more insistently this time.

I sighed and walked to the table. It was Mateo. My head of security. He wouldn’t be calling me so often unless it was urgent. My jaw tightened. I answered, my voice sharp. “Mateo. What is it?”

“Sir. It’s… It’s Ms. Delilah.” His voice was filled with a mix of urgency and something similar to disbelief. “There’s a live video. And it’s gone viral, sir. From the club down the road.”

My blood ran cold—the Obsidian Club. A notorious, chaotic, low-cost club favored by the city

Delilah's povCalix was mid-sentence when I realized I was staring. Not in the polite, attentive way. Not in the “I’m listening to what you’re saying” way.Nope.I was outrightly staring — chin resting against my palm, lips parted slightly, completely zoning out while he told some story about his childhood.I wasn’t hearing a word.I was just watching him.The way his shirt sleeves were rolled to the elbows, exposing strong forearms and that watch he never took off.God, I was completely done for.“Delilah.”I blinked. He caught my eye, a small smile playing on his lips. "What are you thinking about?" he asked, his voice a low, melodic rumble that sent a shiver down my spine.I sat up quickly, tugging my blazer closed even though I knew the goosebumps on my arms had nothing to do with the night’s cool breeze. My mind raced, a chaotic mix of emotions. Love? It was too soon, wasn't it? Too fast. We’d only truly started to acknowledge… this… whatever this blooming feeling was. And yet, t

Delilah's pov I stayed seated at the café, waiting for Calix, long after Diana left. My hands, still trembling slightly, clutched the mug, allowing the warmth to seep into my palms. The biscuits on the saucer had finished already. People had filtered in and out around me — laughter, footsteps, espresso machines hissing. The meeting had been… exceptional. Better than I had expected. Better than I’d dared to dream. I had always thought Diana Thorne was a tough cookie and meeting her had proved me wrong. I’d done it. She said yes. I was still replaying his words when the familiar bell at the café door announced a new arrival. I paid no attention to it. “Hey, I’m here to meet with my wife.” I heard a familiar voice say. I blinked up just in time to see Calix talking to a waiter at the front door. The suit he had worn when we left the house was gone. He wore a dark blue polo shirt that hugged his broad shoulders and surprisingly, faded jeans. His hair was still a little messy as th

Delilah’s POVThe cafe was quiet and charming, the kind of place where every cup of tea came with a complimentary biscuit. I sat at the table by the window, my folder set perfectly on the table while my nerves were palpitating in my stomach. Then I saw her.She stepped through the door with grace that didn’t shout, it whispered. A tall woman, even though she was in her seventies. She was elegantly dressed with her silver hair swept into a low bun and a string of pearls adorning her neck. She had the kind of posture that made you instinctively sit straighter.“Mrs Knight,” she said as she approached, her voice surprisingly soft. She extended a hand, and her grip was firm. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet the woman who’s been making such waves.” A gentle smile played on her lips, and I immediately felt a piece of my anxiety melt away. She wasn’t what I expected. She was… warm.“Ms. Thorne, the pleasure is all mine,” I replied, standing quickly and offering my hand. My voice sounded a li

Delilah’s povI knew I should’ve gotten up.My meeting was in less than thirty minutes, and I still hadn’t picked out an outfit. My pitch folder — the one I had been building over the years, waiting for the right opportunity to use it needed one last look, and I hadn’t even touched my hair.Calix's arms were still around my waist, holding me close. And apparently, he had absolutely no intention of letting go. The air hummed with a quiet energy.“Delilah,” he murmured, his voice a low, husky sound that sent another shiver down my spine. He didn’t pull away. Neither did I. We just laid there. My head rested against his chest, and I could hear the steady, strong beat of his heart beneath my ear. “You’re going to make me late,” I mumbled into his chest, my voice muffled.“You’ll be fine,” he said lazily, his fingers tracing slow circles against my hip.“You’re clingy,” I teased.“And you’re warm,” he replied, tugging me closer and burying his face in between my breasts. “And you smell l

Delilah’s povThe phone slipped from his grasp, dropping softly onto the plush rug. I didn’t even notice. All I could feel was the warmth of his hands at my waist, the mingling of his lips on mine.I kissed him like I didn’t want to come up for air.And maybe I didn’t. Not tonight. Not when everything between us felt… right.Different.His hands cupped my face like I was fragile.“Calix, not here.” I whispered. My eyelids fluttered in rhythm with my beating heart. My hands, refusing to stay still, were roaming all over his body. His skin was warm beneath my palms, smooth and firm.He pulled back slowly and smirked. “Let’s take this home, shall we?” Without another word, he swept me off my feet and carried me out of his office bridal style. The drive home was a blur. When I came to it, we were standing in my bedroom. His lips met mine again, this time, it was deeper. A kiss that spoke of longing, of all the unspoken words and desires that had been building between us for so long.I’d k

Delilah’s pov“Delilah…”My heart was still beating, a frantic rhythm against my ribs. I was struggling to understand, to comprehend what Calix was saying. Feelings. Scared of losing me. More important than all he had. It was a confession that left me speechless and filled with overwhelming emotion.“I’m still waiting for your response.”I swallowed, trying to find my voice, but it seemed to have deserted me. His hand was still on my cheek, his thumb gently tracing the line of my jaw, sending shivers through me.“I… Calix…” I stuttered, trying to reconcile the powerful, unshakeable man I knew with the trembling honesty in his gaze.He took a slow, deliberate breath, his gaze never leaving mine. “I meant it, Delilah. Every word. What you did today… it wasn’t just about cleaning up ‘your mess,’ as you called it. It was strategic. It was brilliant. You didn’t just save the company; you brought millions, millions back into it. You solidified my position in the company. It would be cruel o
