The following morning...

Sterling Group Headquarters was busier than usual.

Executives, shareholders and members of the press had gathered for one of the company's most important business events of the year.

After months of negotiations, Sterling Group and Collins International were finally signing their strategic partnership agreement.

Luxury vehicles arrived one after another outside the headquarters.

A black sedan came to a smooth stop at the entrance.

Arthur Collins stepped out first.

A moment later, Evelyn Hartley followed.

Dressed in a tailored ivory pantsuit with her hair neatly tied back, she carried herself with quiet confidence.

Several reporters immediately recognized Arthur and began taking photographs.

Although Evelyn kept a low profile, many of the business executives greeted her warmly.

"Good morning, Ms. Hartley."

"It's good to see you again."

"Congratulations on the New York expansion."

"Thank you," Evelyn replied with a professional smile.

Arthur glanced at her.

"Ready?"

She nodded.

"As I'll ever be."

The two entered the building together.

Inside the executive conference room...

Damian Sterling was already waiting with Lucas Bennett and the Sterling Group board members.

Everything had been prepared.

The contracts were neatly arranged on the polished conference table.

When the doors opened, Damian instinctively looked up.

His eyes met Evelyn's.

It was their third meeting since she had returned to New York.

Unlike the first two encounters...

The sharp awkwardness between them had eased.

Not because the past had disappeared.

But because both of them had accepted that they now stood before each other as professionals.

Damian stood.

"Mr. Collins."

Arthur smiled and shook his hand.

"Mr. Sterling."

"I'm glad we could finally make this partnership official."

"So am I."

Arthur then turned toward Lucas.

"Good morning."

Lucas greeted him politely before nodding respectfully to Evelyn.

"Ms. Hartley."

"Mr. Bennett."

The executives soon took their seats.

For the next hour, both companies reviewed the final terms of the agreement.

Evelyn confidently explained Collins International's implementation strategy.

She answered every question from Sterling Group's directors with calm precision.

Her knowledge impressed everyone in the room.

One of the senior board members smiled.

"Ms. Hartley, Collins International is fortunate to have someone of your ability."

Arthur looked genuinely proud.

"So are we."

Damian remained quiet.

He listened as Evelyn spoke.

Every decision she explained was practical.

Every answer reflected experience and confidence.

Once again...

He found himself wondering how he had once overlooked such an extraordinary woman.

After the final review, the contracts were placed before Arthur and Damian.

The room became completely silent.

Both men signed their copies.

Pens were exchanged.

The final signatures were completed.

A round of applause filled the conference room.

The partnership between Sterling Group and Collins International was officially established.

Photographers entered to capture the historic moment.

Arthur and Damian shook hands for the cameras.

The board members applauded once again.

When the photographs were finished, people gradually began leaving the conference room.

Some executives gathered in small groups to continue discussing future projects.

Others congratulated Arthur before making their way outside.

Evelyn collected her documents and placed them neatly inside her briefcase.

As she turned to leave, Damian walked toward her.

"Ms. Hartley."

She stopped and looked at him.

"Mr. Sterling."

"I wanted to thank you."

She waited quietly.

"Your preparation made today's negotiations much smoother."

"It was a joint effort."

Damian nodded.

"Even so..."

"Your work deserved recognition."

Evelyn offered a small, polite smile.

"I'm glad the partnership was successful."

"I hope both companies benefit from it."

"I'm sure they will."

There was a brief silence.

Neither of them mentioned the past.

Neither of them needed to.

Professionalism had become the safest distance between them.

Arthur called from the doorway.

"Evelyn, we're leaving."

She nodded.

"I'm coming."

Before walking away, she looked at Damian one final time.

"Congratulations on the partnership, Mr. Sterling."

"You too, Ms. Hartley."

She gave a courteous nod before following Arthur out of the conference room.

Damian watched her leave.

For reasons he couldn't explain...

Every goodbye seemed a little harder than the last.

After the signing ceremony, Damian returned to his office.

Lucas entered a few minutes later with several documents requiring Damian's signature.

"Everything went smoothly today," Lucas said.

Damian nodded, but his thoughts were elsewhere.

"The report won't be ready for another couple of days," Lucas reminded him.

Damian looked out at the city skyline.

"I've waited three years."

"I can wait a little longer."

Lucas understood.

They had gathered the evidence.

Now they simply had to wait for independent confirmation.

Across the city, Evelyn returned to Collins International with Arthur Collins. As the car pulled away from Sterling Group Headquarters, she glanced back at the towering building through the window.

Seeing Damian again had stirred emotions she kept trying to bury.

But she reminded herself of one thing.

The past had already cost her too much.

Her future—and Ethan's future—would always come first.
