I was about to dress in a provocative way as a show of defiance for what Tommaso tried to do to me, but my in-laws weren’t having any of that. They wanted me to dress exactly how they wanted.

It was a glimpse of what would happen once we got married. They expected me to dress conservatively when they knew most of my clothes didn’t scream of me being a poised woman who wore long dresses and long-sleeved shirts.

I liked showing my cleavage and wearing really short dresses and skirts, but my fiancé’s family was trying to change me and make me into someone I was not. I did not appreciate that one bit.

They knew who I was before they agreed I was the right fit for their son. And they pretended to like what they saw. I guess that was just a smoke screen.

I stared at the very long emerald green gown in the mirror and sighed. I hated it with everything in me. It was long-sleeved and it covered all of my chest. That wasn’t even the most annoying part of the dress.

It was how it looked like it

“I will not forget the things you have said to my wife, Raffa. I have been a brother to you all these years and I have trusted you and protected you. How many times have I saved your life?”Raffa looked down because he couldn’t answer. How could he? He said he wished for his best friend‘s wife to suffer a terrible fate so that his girlfriend would be saved.Wanting someone to survive something was one thing, but wanting it to happen at the expense of someone else’s safety was a whole other different thing.“I don’t think I trust you around Chiara. You have proven that you cannot be trusted. I can’t trust that you will not do something to her given the chance. You seem to hate her for reasons I don’t understand. She has supported you and she even gave you advice when it came to Giulia.”“She could’ve taken her best friend’s side, but she didn’t. She supported you and even told me not to kick you out when you came to our house every single day of the week for companionship. Disappointed

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   The attack

Tommaso had promised me that he would make me pay for how much I had humiliated him. When he told me he would make me pay, I thought he would go after me.I didn’t think he would go after my best friend. He only cemented how I felt previously about it being my fault that Giulia was in the state that she was in. I couldn’t move or speak for a while. I remained frozen in my seat, wondering what would have happened if I had just gone through with the wedding. Maybe I should’ve eloped with Emilio.I went over every scenario that would’ve saved my best friend, and I felt more and more terrible by the second. I was the reason she was in a coma, and it was eating me alive.“Don’t look so broken. It wasn’t your fault that he did that to your best friend; if you had married him instead, which is what I’m sure you’re thinking, he would’ve put you through hell. You have no idea the things he had planned for you and how many men he bragged about them.”“He called you a prude and said that he was

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   The Date (2)

During the whole ride to the restaurant, my thoughts were spinning, and I started to question every single thing I knew. Lev seemed to be telling the truth. But a man like him could be a liar, and he could be very good at hiding it in a way that I wouldn’t be able to send it. It was essential that I didn’t allow him to blindside me and force me to go to the restaurant with a preconceived notion of what was true and what wasn’t.He tried to talk to me the entire ride to the restaurant, but I refused. I didn’t want to engage him more than I needed to. He was upset about that, and even when I refused to take the flowers he bought for me.He may have made himself believe that we were going on a date and even made me say that, but the truth of the matter was that there was no date, and I was faithful to my husband.“Stay here and let me open the door for you,” he said when we arrived. I could’ve fought him on it and made sure he had a terrible time, but I realize that would make me just as

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   The Date (1)

“I don’t like what you’re about to do. As much as we will get answers from that man, I don’t trust that he will not hurt you, even in a public setting. He’s dangerous, and I have seen the kind of things he does. Why do you think he will spare you?” Emilio asked. After my talk with Lev, I had contemplated not telling Emilio what he and I had spoken about, and the fact that I was going to meet him for dinner alone. I was a bit skeptical about telling my husband that another man insisted I call the dinner meeting a date. I wasn’t sure how he was going to react or if he was even going to be okay with me going. But I realized that Lev probably wanted me to keep secrets from my husband. He wanted to pit us against one another and make sure that he drove a wedge so large it couldn’t be fixed.I wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of knowing that he was the reason why my husband and I couldn’t see eye to eye. He had already taken my best friend for me, and I wouldn’t allow him to take my husb

Giulia was yet to wake up, but Lev was on his way to the country. I was counting down the hours until I saw him again. I wanted answers, and I wanted them badly. I needed to know what happened to my best friend. All I had done since I found out that something happened to her was blame myself and think that it was all my fault that she was in the position she was in. I should never have dragged her into my business.I was the reason she met Raffa in the first place. When he landed and came straight to my office, he looked as regal and put together as he always did. He was there to sign some documents and go over some legal things regarding his land.During the whole meeting, I fought the urge to demand answers. It would be very unprofessional for me to do something like that. I would be a creep, and it wouldn’t be one of my finest moments.Besides, he had threatened to get me fired and sue for harassment. With how I had acted before, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibilities for

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Never Wake Up

For two weeks, Giulia remained stuck to machines with no progress. Life has to go on at some point, so I made sure to go to work and go and stay with her afterwards. I could only manage a few hours since I had to go to work the next morning.I visited her every day to make sure she could feel my presence. Raffa was going crazy trying to figure out what happened to her. All the cameras in the nearby place where she had been attacked had been destroyed. There was no way of knowing what exactly happened to her. He and Emilio had been looking for answers. He assisted his best friend figure out that mystery. He told me he did that because he could only imagine what was going on in Raffa’s mind.He would have been just as broken if anything were to happen to me.And because of what happened to Giulia, he made sure I had bodyguards everywhere I went. I had two before the incident, but afterwards, he insisted I have five. They were overbearing, but they were necessary.I was sure Lev was invo
