I was about to dress in a provocative way as a show of defiance for what Tommaso tried to do to me, but my in-laws weren’t having any of that. They wanted me to dress exactly how they wanted.

It was a glimpse of what would happen once we got married. They expected me to dress conservatively when they knew most of my clothes didn’t scream of me being a poised woman who wore long dresses and long-sleeved shirts.

I liked showing my cleavage and wearing really short dresses and skirts, but my fiancé’s family was trying to change me and make me into someone I was not. I did not appreciate that one bit.

They knew who I was before they agreed I was the right fit for their son. And they pretended to like what they saw. I guess that was just a smoke screen.

I stared at the very long emerald green gown in the mirror and sighed. I hated it with everything in me. It was long-sleeved and it covered all of my chest. That wasn’t even the most annoying part of the dress.

It was how it looked like it

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Bigger Than Me

“I’m sorry you had to find out the kind of man father is like this. I know how much it hurts to know that the man you trusted isn’t who you thought he was. I’m sorry.”She snuggled into me further and shook her head against my chest.“It’s not your fault. It’s mine for being so naïve and not thinking that a man who’s that powerful didn’t do certain things to make sure he always remained at the top. I can’t believe I was blinded by my naivety to see the truth.”She had stopped crying, and suddenly, her sad gaze was bitter. I didn’t know what to say to her to make her feel better, but I knew I could hold her.She looked so broken that it broke me too. That was how I knew she meant more to me than I thought she did. Raffa has asked me if I could see myself spending the rest of my life with her, and the answer was yes. Once I married her, I would never let her go. I had her, and I wouldn’t allow anyone to take her away from me. They were going to have to take her away from me forcefully.

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   At My Expense

“Did you find out why the Rinaldi family is so interested in your girlfriend?” Raffa asked.I had a pretty good idea about why they wanted her so badly to be their daughter-in-law, but it didn’t make sense because they weren’t even a mafia family that needed connections. There was something else going on, and for the love of me, I couldn’t figure out what it was. All I could do was keep Chiara by my side and make sure they didn’t force her into a marriage she didn’t want. They sought to gain something from the marriage, and neither Chiara nor her father knew what it was, but Mimi did, and I doubted that she would ever tell me. She was a conniving little bitch, and I knew she had something up her sleeve.“No. I just know she wants Chiara because of her Greek Mafia connections, but I can’t figure out why she wants a connection to the mafia when she has all the funding she needs. There’s something else here that we don’t know about, and we need to find it out as soon as possible.”“Do yo

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   What?!

“Are you sure?” I asked.“No. It’s a hunch.”My whole world as I knew it shattered before my eyes because I couldn’t believe a word I was hearing. My father was sleeping with the woman who tried to get a man to violate me.He was sleeping with the current leader of the Italian mafia, which meant he knew everything she did. It meant he was complicit in all her crimes and was possibly helping her cover it up.I didn’t know how else I could defend him.It was either that or Vittoria was a very good liar, and she had fooled my father into believing that she was a good person when she wasn’t. But I found it hard to believe that my father could be fooled so easily. He knew what real criminals looked like, and he knew how they acted and behaved. There was no way that he had no idea what kind of woman she was.“Why are you so pale?” Alessandro asked me. For a moment, I believed that he also knew the kind of woman my father was sleeping with. How couldn’t he know that Vittoria was the current

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   I Need The Truth

“Can you stop being dramatic? Why do you keep asking about her so much? Do you know something?” He asked, and I had to laugh at the audacity that he had to shift the blame onto me when we were speaking about what he knew and his involvement in the whole matter. It was very disgusting behavior on his part. One that he had learned from Matteo.“No. You're not going to shift the blame to me and try to make me seem like I’m the bad one in the situation. She is my mother. If I don’t ask about her, who else is going to? You’re hiding something, and I’m going right now to the police station to find out what’s going on.”Of course, I was bluffing, but he wouldn’t know that because he thought he was keeping me in the dark and that I was a naïve girl. I wasn’t the girl he knew me to be. I had changed for the better, and I would be damned if I allowed him to hide shit from me.He had defended me, but he was also acting like I was some little girl who needed protection from every other aspect of

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Need To Know

Papa was lying on a hospital bed with many tubes attached to his body. He had never looked more flawed in his entire life, according to me.He was suddenly helpless, and not the bully I knew for years. I couldn’t help but wonder how my mother would feel about seeing him in such a state. The last time he was jumped outside of his building by the men Emilio had sent, she was so worried about him that she actually left the house without straightening her hair and wearing any makeup. It was the first time I had ever seen her in a disheveled state. It was also when I also learned how much she really loved him because she was willing to sacrifice her dignity and how the world viewed her for him.I wondered if she still held the same empathy she did back then. A part of me doubted that she did because of how ill she had spoken about him the last time I saw her. Knowing she was somewhere in Greece, living her best life put a smile on my face.I wanted to see her even if it was just one so tha

  • Don Emilio's Redemption   Turned Into

“Relax, you don't know that she’s the one who did this, and we can’t afford to offend her right now. You need to get your shit together and concentrate on how Papa will heal. He needs us right now, especially if he wants to come to terms with what has happened.” I said.“Are you defending her right now? Is it because you want her to protect you when you finally marry Tom? Let me tell you something. That woman is worse than Tom is. Where do you think he gets his nasty attitude from?”“Can you get your head out of your fucking ass? I’m not defending her. I just insulted her right this second. How could I care about how she sees me? I’m telling you this because we don’t know for a fact that she’s the one who did this, and instead of focusing on revenge, we should be focusing on how we’re going to make Dad feel better.”“But—”“He’s going to be paralyzed! Don’t you understand that? He has walked for all his life, and now suddenly he’s losing his legs. We need to figure out how we’re going
