Chapter 2

Author: Grape Ice Pop
I had not even reached Gianna’s room when dozens of bodyguards surrounded me.

The moment they saw me, they went on high alert.

“Mrs. Pellam, Mr. Pellam gave strict orders that you are not to go anywhere near Miss Seyfert.”

Even through the wall of bodyguards, I spotted a puppy-filter photo of Jesse and Gianna on the door. A pink heart framed the picture, and beneath it, in playful cartoon lettering, were the words: Jessiana Castle.

I forced a cold smile onto my face.

“How childish.”

I used to beg Jesse to take photos like this with me too.

Every time, he would tell me that, as the CEO of a publicly traded company, he could not possibly do something so childish.

It turned out it was not that he could not do it. He just did not want to do it with me.

I pressed a hand to my still-aching chest and took a deep breath.

“Move. You all know what I’m capable of when I lose control.”

With that, I pulled out the utility knife I carried with me.

I had only intended to scare them, but before I could do anything, a bodyguard lunged at me and tackled me to the floor.

The others immediately pinned me down, leaving me unable to move.

“I’m sorry, Mrs. Pellam. Mr. Pellam instructed us that if you show signs of having an episode, we are to restrain you immediately.”

Another bodyguard immediately pulled out his radio.

“Mr. Pellam, Mrs. Pellam is here. She brought a knife—”

Before he could finish, Jesse’s voice suddenly rose through the radio.

“Restrain her now! What if she hurts Gia?”

The moment I heard that, I stopped struggling.

“We have her under control. Should we send her back to the estate or keep her confined for now?”

The radio went silent for two seconds.

After a long pause, Jesse let out a quiet sigh.

“Forget it. Bring her inside.”

The bodyguards took the knife away, but the blade still caught my wrist in the struggle. By the time they forced me into the room, blood was dripping from my wrist.

I bit down hard on my lower lip, forcing myself not to cry.

But the moment I stepped inside, I froze.

The setting sun streamed through the sheer curtains, casting a warm glow over the rocking chair on the balcony.

A cup of hot coffee and an open book rested on the small table beside it.

In the corner, a vintage record player played the jazz music Jesse loved.

This was no hospital room.

It was a home—one I had designed myself.

Before we got married, I had drawn the design plans myself, carefully shaping every detail around our shared tastes.

However, Jesse said that he did not want me to exhaust myself, so he hired a design team and had the estate remodeled in a completely different style.

The home I had dreamed of stood right in front of me.

Yet it had become a home for him and another woman.

“You’re here.”

Jesse’s voice came from behind me.

I turned around, still dazed.

The shock in my eyes had not yet faded when he said, “Gia always said that she loved this design, so I gave it to her. You don’t mind, do you?”

I stared at him in disbelief.

“What do you think?”

He simply nodded.

“Go ahead and tear it down, Quinn. Whatever makes you happy.”

His gaze briefly drifted to my still-bleeding wrist, and all I saw in his eyes was disgust.

“I’ve gotten used to it. Gia has too.”

He then shifted his gaze to the window, his expression so calm it was as if he were saying, “Look, Quinn. The sunset is beautiful today.”

I followed his gaze.

A rainbow had appeared in the sky after the storm, but the storm inside me felt like it would never end.

“Jess, come play ‘It Takes Two’ with me…”

The moment Gianna saw me, she stopped mid-sentence.

The game controller slipped from her fingers and clattered to the floor.

She suddenly clutched her head and erupted into hysterical screams.

“No! Don’t take off my clothes! Don’t kill my baby! I’m a terrible person! I’m a homewrecker! I was wrong! Please… I’ll never do it again…”

Jesse crossed the room in just a few strides and pulled her tightly into his arms. His eyes reddened with anguish.

“It’s okay. You’re safe. I’m here. No one will ever hurt you again.”

He looked straight at me as he said those words, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred.

A laugh escaped me.

I laughed until tears streamed down my face.

For a split second, I wanted to run over, grab Gianna, and throw us both off the balcony.

But the last sliver of my sanity told me she was not worth it.

My nails dug into my palms as I fought to suppress the urge to take her down with me.

I only let out a cold laugh.

“Gianna, drop the act.”

(1st POV)I frowned as I looked at Jesse.Gone was the commanding businessman who had once dominated the corporate world with ruthless decisiveness. The man standing before me was little more than a drunken wreck whose reason had been consumed by alcohol.I took a step back to put some distance between us.“Mr. Pellam, is there something else you need?”“Please stay. Come back to me. I know I was wrong. I really do! I’ll give you the company. I’ll give you everything I have. Just don’t leave me!”Curious glances immediately turned toward us as people began whispering among themselves. They had all joined Pellam Group in recent years and knew nothing about my history as Jesse’s ex-wife.I frowned, a trace of impatience crossing my face.“Jesse, please step aside. We are only business partners. If it’s about work, we can discuss it. If it isn’t, there’s no need to continue this conversation.”“No, I won’t!”Jesse stubbornly stood in my way.“Quinn, are you still holding it a

(3rd POV)After leaving Javonia, Jesse could not stop thinking about the phone call from ten years in the future. He wanted to call that number one more time.If the call had been real, he wanted to ask his future self whether it was Gianna’s death at Quinn’s hands that would leave him drowning in regret or losing Quinn that would cause him unbearable pain. But he could not find the answer. When he returned home, he was greeted by a house that no longer had Quinn in it. It felt empty and cold. He could not help remembering how she used to cook his favorite meals there, prepare his breakfast every morning, make him coffee whenever he worked late into the night, and drink with him to celebrate every time he secured an important project. The house held countless memories they had shared, yet when Quinn was still by his side, he had only ever thought of her as a bother. With her gone, another piece of his heart felt empty.Jesse buried himself in work, desperately trying to numb

By the time I got home, Dad already knew Jesse had come to see me.He frowned, and anger blazed in his usually gentle eyes.“I heard Jesse actually had the nerve to lay a hand on you.”I smiled and shook my head.“It wasn’t that serious. He just came to have me sign the divorce agreement. Besides, the bodyguard was there and drove him away before anything happened.“Come on now,” I added. “Don’t be mad.”To me, Jesse’s appearance was nothing more than a brief interruption.Dad and I even moved to a new house to make sure he could not find me again.I continued spending my days letting the sunshine and the beach slowly heal the darkness within me.Over time, I gradually recovered from my PTSD.Eventually, when Mom came up again, I was finally able to face those memories with calm acceptance.Dad’s health improved steadily as well. After several rounds of follow-up tests, the cancer showed no signs of returning.Yet he told me he no longer wanted to be involved in the compan

I froze for a few seconds before getting to my feet and turning to leave. But Jesse grabbed me and tried to pull me into his arms.I struggled with all my strength until I finally broke free.“Jesse, we’re already divorced! What do you want from me?”He somehow produced the divorce agreement. Then, right in front of me, he tore it to shreds again.“We’re still married until the divorce is finalized.”I frowned at him, unable to hide my resistance.“Tearing it up won’t change anything. After two years of separation, the divorce will be finalized automatically. What exactly are you trying to do?”Jesse took a step forward, trying to grab me again, but I quickly stepped back. His hand hung in the air for a long moment before finally dropping back to his side.“I came here to ask you one thing. Did you make that phone call?”I let out a quiet laugh.“Does it even matter anymore if I was the one who made it?”“It does!” he said urgently, his eyes filled with anxiety and frustra

Once the plane rose above the cloud, the rain was left behind. As I looked out at the clear sky, I could not help but feel a dull ache in my chest.Back then, I had accompanied Dad overseas for his treatment when I happened to run into Jesse, who had taken Gianna there for pregnancy-related care.I rushed over with tears in my eyes and confronted Jesse. But he was afraid I would harm Gianna, and we ended up in a heated argument. In the middle of it, Gianna panicked and tried to run away from me. She accidentally crashed into Dad’s wheelchair and fell down the stairs, resulting in the loss of her baby. After seeing everything that happened, Dad urged me more than once to leave Jesse.“Quinn, I made a mistake back then, and because of it, you lost your mom at such a young age. I have regretted it ever since.“As I’ve said before, no matter what happens, I’ll always have your back.“Jesse has mistreated you for so long. Why did you wait so long to leave him?”I fell silent for a

“Are you serious?”Jesse stiffened, disbelief written all over his face.“Of course.”I looked away as though it meant nothing and spoke slowly.“I only made up that lie because I was afraid you would divorce me.”He paused, still seeming unconvinced.“But he knew everything about me. Every single thing from my childhood until now.”I let out a scoff.“Exactly. I know you too well. I know what kind of threat would work best against you.”Jesse said nothing. He simply frowned deeply and stared at me, his thoughts impossible to read.I pressed my forehead against the floor, making sure he could not see how hard I was struggling to hold myself together. After all, this was the first lie I had ever told him since the day we met.Maybe there really had been a phone call from ten years in the future, and maybe he truly would come to regret everything one day.But I could not go on like this anymore.I sniffed, lifted my head, and put on a mocking expression.“Have you made up
