Chapter 7

Author: I Hate Peppers
Ever since Yelena joined the dance troupe because of Samuel, the troupe had gradually split into two factions.

One faction was centered around Joy and worked hard with her as their goal. The other was centered around Yelena and neglected practice. All they thought about was how to get on Yelena’s good side so that she would put in a good word about them in front of Samuel and bring them benefits.

The two factions never spoke to each other face-to-face until the end of the practice session today.

With a smile, Yelena blocked Joy. “Joy, I don’t understand a certain part. Could you teach me?”

When she saw how unusually Yelena was behaving today, Joy instinctively frowned. Just as she was about to say something, one of Yelena’s lackeys suddenly pushed her.

“What’s the meaning of this? Yelena is asking you nicely. What’s with your attitude?”

The people beside Joy could not stand it, so they stood in front of Yelena. “‘What’s the meaning of this’? I would much rather want to know what Yelena means by this. She had plenty of time to ask during practice, but she didn’t. Instead, she only came over to ask after practice was over! She’s just doing this on purpose!”

Joy did not want any conflict to arise from this. She pulled her friend back, but Yelena’s lackeys thought that they were scared and started saying even more demeaning words.

“You’re scared of us, aren’t you? I’m telling you now. Yelena is going to be Samuel’s wife very soon. It’s Joy’s honor to be able to teach her!”

“That’s right! She’s just an orphan. If she makes Yelena mad, Samuel might just chase her out!”

As they spoke, someone threw the first hit, and both factions instantly started fighting against each other.

During the chaos, Yelena suddenly arrived beside Joy and shoved her.

Joy was standing at the edge of a tall platform. Just as she was about to fall, she grabbed Yelena and dragged her down as well.

Both of them fell. Screams erupted everywhere. It was pure chaos.

When Samuel rushed over, both of them were about to be pushed into the surgery room.

The sight of them covered in blood made his face turn pale, and his usually calm voice was laced with panic.

“What’s their situation?”

A doctor hurried over. “Mr. Foster, Ms. Foster and Ms. Jones fell from the platform, and their legs were broken. Ms. Foster was pinned under Ms. Jones, so her situation is worse.

“We only have one type of special medication to treat broken legs, but Ms. Jones doesn’t need it. Should we—”

Before the doctor finished speaking, Samuel interrupted him. “Give it to Yelena!”

“But—”

“Enough talk! Perform the surgery now!”

Joy had woken up right then due to the pain, and she heard his decision. She felt as if a hammer had struck her.

He knew just how vital legs were to a dancer.

The doctor had even said that Yelena could do without the medicine.

She endured the pain and used the last shred of her strength to cry out. She had always been prideful, but at that moment, she pleaded while crying, “Please, Sammy, give me the medication.

“I don’t mind if you don’t like me. I don’t care that you left me in the mountain valley for a day and night. You know just how important my legs are to me. I can’t lose them! I want to continue dancing! Dancing is my dream! Please!”

In the end, she broke down and started crying. Huge beads of tears fell down her pale cheeks.

In the past, no matter how heavily injured Joy was, she never cried, but at the moment, she cried in such despair that it made Samuel clench his fists. He trembled slightly. Just as he was about to speak, Yelena also woke up from the pain.

When she remembered the pain that came when she fell, she cried in panic as well. “Samuel, it hurts! My legs hurt… Save me…”

At that, Samuel flung Joy’s hand away and hurried over to hold Yelena. “Be good. I’ll have the doctor give you the medication right now.”

He no longer hesitated. He urged the doctor to give Yelena the medication.

Joy saw all this unfold. She hurriedly pushed herself up to reach out to Yelena so that she could grab the medication.

But her broken legs dragged her down and made her unable to move.

The cold needle pierced into Yelena’s legs, and Joy could only watch as the medication was injected into her.

The words of truth made Samuel shut his eyes slowly. All the other words he wanted to say became lead on his tongue, and bitterness spread in his mouth.Suddenly, he remembered how Melea had been unable to sleep at night all those years ago due to fear. With a teddy bear in hand, he would sit beside her bed and tell her bedtime stories. At the end of his story, he would put the teddy bear by her pillow and say softly but firmly, “I’m the same as this bear and will always protect you. I won’t ever hurt you. You’ll always be the most important person to me.”Delight flashed in Melea’s eyes, but she soon looked down. “You’re definitely just saying that to make me happy.”“I’m not. Let’s make a pinky promise.”“Okay. If you actually hurt me in the future, I won’t talk to you anymore!”Tears fell from his eyes, and Samuel looked at the woman before him.But she had started walking down the mountain.“Melea!”Melea paused for a moment, but she did not turn back.Even so, Samuel re

The sun started rising, and the fog in the mountain where the church was located started rolling in. Thick bundles of clouds mingled with the fog and made the path up blurry.Melea and Solomon slowly walked up the stone path and headed to the church at the top of the mountain. Not far away, they heard the church bells ring. The church had a tall old tree, and the stone path was covered in moss. As the wind blew, leaves fell and let out crisp sounds. The bells that hung off the eaves trembled.Melea sucked in a deep breath and sat on a stone bench in the corner while she watched Solomon look around like a curious child. It should have been beautiful, but Samuel’s arrival ruined it.‘Seriously, he just refuses to leave me alone.’ That was Melea’s first thought when she saw Samuel walk over to her.“Melea, can we talk?”Perhaps Martha’s words left an effect on him, because he knew that he had been too impatient.Melea did not actually want to talk to him, but then she remembered

Yelena was already displeased when she heard what Samuel said, and when he yelled at her, she decided to stop hiding. She stepped out of her hiding spot and went over to grab Samuel’s arm, but Samuel avoided her.She gritted her teeth and looked over at Melea. After sizing her up, her eyes landed on Melea’s legs, and she said, “Our dance troupe originally got an offer to perform at the Graham family. Practice was going well when our leader suddenly came over and told us that the performance was canceled.“I asked, and it’s because you don’t want to see other dances because you can’t dance anymore. Seriously, if you can’t watch other dances, then don’t. Why did you have to cancel the performance? You caused so many people to be unable to get any money from this gig. You’re still as selfish as ever!”“Quiet!”“Shut up!”The men shouted at her. Samuel even slapped her despite her being pregnant. Yelena fell to the ground, and her stomach clenched in pain. “Ow! My stomach!”Melea

Samuel was stunned by the question. He opened his mouth. But what was he going to say? Was he going to say that he only realized his feelings after she left and wanted to mend things with her?As for Yelena, he could chase her away after she gave birth. In any case, they had never collected their marriage certificate. He gulped and stared at the woman standing behind the two men.It had only been half a year since they last met, but her dull eyes were already full of life. It seemed like she lived a much better life than when she was at the Foster family.“Melea, I’m sorry. I should never have treated you like that.”“I thought that I didn’t like you, but after you left, I finally realized that you’re the one I really like. Yelena was just a tool for me to make you mad. Could you give me another chance?”He was like a husband who had finally realized that he had done wrong by his wife for years and was asking for forgiveness.Unfortunately, Melea was not a wife who was waiting

In the past, Yelena would have scoffed at the idea, but at present, she had to come. If she could gain the Graham family’s favor by teaching the dancers this particular dance, perhaps her status in the Foster family would climb up a bit. With that thought in mind, she straightened her back and shouted, “The leftmost one, raise your leg higher!”While practice was in full swing, their leader suddenly came in with a long face and clapped. “Stop practicing! Go home now!”The dancers looked at each other at a loss. Their leader’s sudden outburst had been unexpected. Even Yelena stood up and headed over to the leader. “Practice was going smoothly. Why would you suddenly tell us to stop?” The leader felt furious when she saw Yelena, but due to her status, she could only say coldly, “How would I know? The Graham family sent someone over to tell us that we don’t need to practice anymore. They’re canceling the performance!”Those words were like an explosion that immediately caused the da

After they unpacked their stuff, Melea and Solomon chatted with Jennifer for a bit before they grabbed their presents to head over to the Graham family to visit Angela’s teacher. Before they left, they also asked Jennifer not to prepare dinner.Jennifer nodded and asked them to be careful before she watched them leave. The Graham family house was not far away, but Solomon was not the type to remain silent. He kept asking Melea to tell him about the Imperial City.Even though Melea had lived fifteen years in the Imperial City, she often traveled back and forth between the dance troupe and the Foster family. She seldom went elsewhere. She also stayed at home more frequently after Samuel discovered her love.…Aside from the time they went to the church in the suburbs. When Solomon heard that there was a church, he asked Melea to bring him over when she was free.Solomon was her cousin and loved traveling around.Olivia Zimmer, his mother, could keep an eye on him while they wer
