Derek sounded so taken for granted, as if tricking me into giving birth to his baby was nothing but normal.
I felt a chill. Derek had lost his mind. The woman he loved was a rogue. She couldn't give him a baby, so he wanted to use me.
Before, a part of me might feel guilty about cheating on him, yet not anymore.
He proved to me that the last five years of my life were just a piece of shit. I couldn't believe I had held our relationship in my hands for five years with joy, and even a few minutes ago, I was savoring the warmth it brought me.
"Don't worry. We will have fun. After all, we are a couple, right?" Derek said with an eerie smile. I glared at him.
Derek tied me up tightly to the bed with a rope and stuffed a strip of cloth in my mouth so that I couldn't make a sound.
He sat on the other side of the bed, video-chatting with that rogue called Melinda.
They flirted unabashedly, talking sweet nothings to each other, and Derek didn't even bother to glance at me.
Something suddenly made sense. Whenever I implied that I wanted to sleep with him, he always turned me down with all kinds of excuses, or he would grab his phone and say he needed to take a shower.
It turned out that he couldn't be turned on by me, and he needed to prepare himself in advance.
After a while, Derek hung up the phone and leaned directly in front of me.
He reached out and took the strip of cloth out of my mouth.
I turned my head away from his disgusting face, but he clutched my chin and forced me to face him.
"Didn't you want to sleep with me badly? Why are you so disgusted now?"
He rubbed his hands stiffly over my body, making me sick, but I couldn't break free.
I tried to keep my voice from sounding shaky.
"As a werewolf, you can't even get your mate to bear your child, and you have to cheat others by dirty means. How can I not be disgusted?"
It seemed that I hit his sore spot. His hands that were wandering on my body stopped.
He looked at me coldly. There was no warmth in his eyes at all.
"You are right. I have no desire for you, especially now. However, as long as you stay here, sooner or later, I'll get you pregnant."
He stuffed the strip of cloth back into my mouth again, picked up my phone, walked out of the room, and closed the door.
After Derek left the room, I could no longer hold back my emotions, and tears streamed down my face.
I was in Los Angeles, far away from my pack and parents. I couldn't mind link them to ask for help.
My fear of Derek now made me despair about my future.
Yet I knew that tears mixed with weakness couldn't save me. I couldn't give up like that. I had to save myself.
Fortunately, when he stuffed the cloth in my mouth, he didn't do a very good job, so I easily used my tongue to push the cloth out of my mouth.
However, the thick ropes that tied my wrists and ankles were trickier.
The rope was as thick as my wrist. Without a knife or something sharp, I could never break free.
I looked around but did not find anything useful.
Was I supposed to accept my fate and let Derek torture me however he wanted?
Looking at the ceramic cup on my nightstand, I had an idea.
We got home at about 6 p.m., and I confronted Derek for about an hour. Usually, at this time of the day, Derek had to go to the pack to attend a meeting. He needed to brief the Alpha on his work.
In other words, he had already left.
I struggled to get to the bedside table and smashed the cup with my shoulder. Then I rolled out of bed onto the floor and picked the largest broken shard with my mouth.
The meeting would take Derek two hours, and his journey back and forth added up to forty minutes. I had to use this time to untie the ropes and get out of here.
Thinking of my parents' worried faces, I no longer cared about anything else. I bit the shard between my teeth, chose the part of the rope that was relatively thinner, and little by little, I used it to cut the rope that was around my wrists.
The shard cut my tongue as well, and it hurt so much that I couldn't make a sound.
But I ignored the pain. I didn't have much time, so I had to cut the rope as fast as I could.
I didn't know how long had passed. Finally, I saw a small crack in the rope. I sped up, and my mouth hurt even more. I could smell and taste blood.
The rope was finally going to break and I saw hope. I spat out the shard in my mouth and used all my strength to break free from the rope.
Then I quickly untied the rope from my feet. I didn't have time to pick up my suitcase, and I just stumbled out with difficulty.
Before I walked out of the bedroom, a card fell out of my jacket pocket.
I picked it up and looked at it. It was the business card that Lucas had given me.
Thinking of Lucas, I felt that my eyes were a bit misted.
Even though Lucas blackmailed me with what had happened on the plane and asked me to stay with him for three days, during those three days, he was nothing but a kind gentleman to me.
It made me realize that although he looked unreliable, he was actually a nice person.
Derek was just a well-disguised animal. Compared to him, Lucas was a million times upright.
I put the business card back into my pocket and walked out of the bedroom.
I looked around the living room and was glad to find that Fiona was not around. If she knew what had happened just now, she would be so sad.
I hastily grabbed my bag and phone that were hidden by Derek and ran out of the place, not daring to waste another second. The first thing I did after I fled was to call my bestie, Tasha. I wanted to crash at her place for a few days.
The bad news was that Tasha told me she was out of town on business and wouldn't be home for a few days.
Damn! I had nowhere to go.
I had no choice but to take my suitcase and find a hotel to stay in.
After staying at the hotel for a night, I received a call from Marshall early in the morning.
He was very angry and asked me why I hadn't gone to the office today since I only asked for three days off.
I glanced at my watch and, sure enough, it was already past the time to punch in for work. Marshall scolded me and urged me to get my ass back to the company at once. He said there would be an important meeting today, and if I failed to make it, I could kiss this month's salary goodbye.
I had already lost my love. If I didn't even get my paycheck, I would be rendered broke.
I went to the bathroom of the hotel room, stood in front of the mirror, and looked at myself. There were still red marks on my cheeks left by Derek. I immediately took out my makeup bag to cover the marks and put on some clean clothes.I pursed my lips. The wounds from yesterday had begun to heal. However, the wound on my tongue was relatively deeper, and even werewolves with strong healing power couldn't heal in one night.I took a sip of ice water, which diluted the taste of blood in my mouth. At least I could speak now. After sorting myself out, I immediately left the hotel and went to the office.I carefully went to Marshall's office."Cynthia, if you don't want this job, quit right now!" Marshall shouted in dissatisfaction."Sorry, Mr. Schultz. It won't happen again," I apologized softly.Marshall waved his hand impatiently and said, "Cut the crap. Just sort out the document and go to the conference room."I went to my seat, sorted out the document, and trotted toward the confere
Seeing that I didn't say anything, Marshall became even angrier."Why aren't you talking? Do you want to play dumb?" he said and kept scolding me."Mr. Schultz, I took her to the hospital. That's all. What's the big deal? Your secretary is injured, and you don't have a clue. Can't I express my concerns?" Lucas said lazily.Hearing his words, I suddenly had the urge to punch him.His words would only make others more suspicious. As expected, Marshall looked at me meaningfully and no longer said anything. The meeting continued, and finally, I got off work.I turned on my phone and was immediately bombarded by texts and missed calls from Derek.I glanced at the phone screen and then deleted all the texts. After that, I blacklisted Derek's number and tossed my phone in my bag.Now I was just waiting for Tasha to get back. After a few peaceful days, both my state of mind and body recovered quite a bit.One day, just as I got off work, my phone rang. I picked it up and it was Fiona.I hesit
I was shocked when I heard what Derek said.Had Derek lost his mind? I didn't get it. Why was he still pretending to be a nice man when things had already come to this point?I wanted to expose his disguise, but he didn't give me the chance. Before I opened my mouth to speak, Derek had already smiled and walked to me. He reached out and grabbed my chin, squeezing it so hard that I had to open my mouth and exhale in pain.He was about to pour the glass of hot milk into my mouth with his other hand.I struggled hard because I saw that the glass of milk was steaming. If I let him get his way, the milk would worsen the wound in my mouth.I'd choke, if not burnt.I aimed at his crotch and kicked. He crouched on the ground, holding his manhood, and screamed in pain.I took the opportunity to run out of the guest room. As I ran, I shouted, "Fiona! Fiona! Where are you?"Soon, Fiona ran out of her room. She looked at me in surprise.I grabbed her arm at once, and my tears streamed down my fac
After making up my mind, I became much calmer.Over the next few days, I quietly ate all the food Fiona brought in. Nutrition was the only way I could heal.Although my injuries were gradually recovering, I still couldn't shift. All I could do was conserve my energy and wait for my chance. It was Friday again, and Derek needed to attend the pack meeting, which usually lasted until late at night.Fiona was the only one around right now.The wound on my head had almost healed, and I started looking for something in the guest room I could use to call for help.Luckily, there were plenty of pens and paper in the guest room. I wrote the words for help on a piece of paper and threw the paper out of the window, waiting for some kind people to help me.To be sure, I found a book on the shelf with a ten-dollar bill I had put inside before. I used the bill to wrap the piece of paper, and threw it out.I leaned quietly on the windowsill and waited. A woman in her forties picked up the money, ope
Lucas' words were tempting to me. Right now, I did not have a husband or a job, and if I returned to Texas, my parents would be worried about me.I wanted to stay in Los Angeles for some time before going back. So, seeking a job was the most important thing for me at the moment.I looked at Lucas, thinking about how to answer him.Lucas smiled as I hesitated, "As I said before, I'll offer you a triple salary, but..."He paused and looked me up and down.He looked at me with fixed eyes and made me feel a little nervous.I didn't know what Lucas was going to say next because he was hard to predict."But your workload will also be tripled," Lucas continued. He rolled down the car window, and his tone was a little subtle.I blushed instantly because of his meaningful attitude.I shouldn't have had any expectations for him. I walked forward quickly and didn't bother to respond to him. Unexpectedly, Lucas drove s
I chewed on my food slowly and didn't know what reason I could use to put Lucas off. In the end, I decided to keep silent. "Why aren't you talking?" Lucas continued to ask. I lowered my head and kept silent, ignoring him. He had no choice but to give up. After the meal, he took me to a nearby mall. "You need to get some new clothes," Lucas said and sized me up. I said with dissatisfaction, "Why? I don't need any new clothes." I didn't have much savings for new clothes. Lucas raised his eyebrows and said disdainfully, "Look at the clothes you are wearing now. They are cheap and prove that you have bad taste in clothing." "How can you judge me like that?" I complained. "If it was only for yourself, I wouldn't care about it." Lucas snorted coldly. "But you are going to be my secretary and represent me. How will my clients see me if you wear such shabby clothes?" I picked some less expensive dresses
"Okay." I nodded obediently when I heard what Lucas said.It was professional.Lucas looked at me meaningfully. He paused for seconds before saying, "Cynthia, as a secretary, you have done a good job."As he spoke, his eyes were fixed on my chest, and my face immediately blushed.I looked around. Fortunately, there was no one else."Cynthia?"I put down the knife and fork. Hearing the familiar voice behind me, I wanted to escape right away.If not for Derek's arrival, I would have forgotten that the restaurant was close to his company and that he often came for lunch.Derek kept staring at me. His eyes were so fierce, as if trying to see through me.He looked at Lucas next to me and seemed to realize something."No wonder you wanted to divorce me. It turns out that you also cheated on me."The word "also" sounded repulsive to me. It was as if he and I were the same kind of people.I con
As I walked, I wondered who this woman was. She looked vulgar and was not the same kind of person as Tasha.I felt strange. Since Tasha and I became friends, we shared everything. If Tasha had a new friend, why wouldn't she tell me?I looked at the woman. We were both somewhat embarrassed. At that time, Tasha returned."Tasha, your friend is here. Why didn't you tell me?" I walked over and asked. The strange woman turned to me. Tasha glared at her and then Tasha smiled at me.She said, "I don't have a husband. Can't I have a few more friends?""Of course you can," I said with a smile.I breathed a sigh of relief when Tasha joked with me.I put my bag on the sofa and went to the bathroom. When I came out, I saw a person sitting next to Tasha's friend."Tasha, is there another guest?"Tasha did not answer me. I felt a little strange and walked closer, only to see Derek's malicious face.I
