Chapter 4

Author: Dancing Ant
I lifted my head and stared at Evelyn, my gaze cold enough to freeze over.

She was finally dropping the act.

I was about to lay my cards on the table, but before I could get the words out, I suddenly felt something off with my body.

My chest felt tight, my head spun, and my limbs went weak. I couldn't even force my jaw open.

I gripped the edge of the table, my face turning ashen.

Evelyn stared at me and smiled. Only this time, the smile had changed. It was cold, vicious, and twisted with a hint of satisfaction.

"What's wrong?" she asked. "Starting to feel off?"

She leaned in, lowering her voice into a whisper. "Too late. The bottle you were drinking from was high-proof liquor I picked out myself. At this point, even if you want to fight back, I'm afraid it's a little too late."

After saying that, she clapped her hands. The door to the private room opened, and a man walked in with contempt written all over his face.

Evelyn threw herself at him, wrapped her arms around his neck, and kissed him.

My eyes widened, but my body wouldn't move. I didn't even have the strength to curse at them. They lost themselves in the kiss for a moment before each grabbed an arm and dragged me out.

I was hauled into the car. Evelyn started the engine, placed my hand on the steering wheel, and secured my foot to the gas pedal with a rope.

Numbness had taken over my entire body. I could only manage a broken, wheezing whisper. "W-What… are you doing?"

Evelyn laughed as she started the car, grinning so widely that her gums showed. "What do you think? I'm sending my dear husband to his death, of course!"

I stared at her, my voice trembling. "This hotel has security cameras. If you think you can kill someone and no one will find out… you're wrong."

She turned to look at me and burst into hysterical laughter. "Security cameras? Honey, this hotel belongs to my boyfriend. The cameras were turned off a long time ago."

Her man leaned against the car window and whistled, then added lazily, "Relax. We're professionals."

My heart dropped.

I knew Evelyn was ruthless, but I never imagined she'd actually go this far.

The car was already in gear, the wheel was pointed straight ahead, and the hood of the car shot toward the winding mountain road.

I fought desperately with the steering wheel, but my foot was tied in place, and the whole car tore downhill.

The speedometer quickly climbed to 100 miles an hour, and outside the window, the trees and cliff blurred together.

Finally, it all clicked.

Evelyn had asked me to dinner today so she could set me up to die. She had gotten me drunk so she could make it look as if I had driven under the influence.

She had chosen this place because once an accident happened here, there might not even be anything left of me to recover.

What she wanted was a perfect accident.

I used the last of my strength, but I still couldn't break free. A sharp turn appeared ahead, and right beyond it was a cliff hundreds of feet high.

In another 30 seconds, the car would fly off the road and crash into the valley.

Boom!

A violent impact rang out, and in an instant, flames erupted along the edge of the cliff.

I stood by the guardrail and watched the car disintegrate into a heap of scrap metal below.

A car that had been waiting drove up from the foot of the mountain. I yanked open the passenger door and slid inside. The person who picked me up was Michael Hayes, a former classmate I had called for backup earlier.

"Your wife is something else," he said, tossing a thick folder into my lap.

The pages were densely packed with information, and every line was alarming. I only managed to skim past a few pages before I felt my blood boil.

But from now on, I wouldn't be the one losing sleep.

That night, I kept monitoring the group chat.

Evelyn was in an excellent mood and was posting live photo updates of her date with that man. They went to a restaurant, a cinema, and then a park.

They kissed and touched each other without a care, posting one photo after another.

Although neither of them revealed their faces, the group still got worked up.

"I've already booked a room. Tonight, I'm going to make sure he can't get out of bed."

Evelyn posted a photo of a hotel key card. Then, as if by accident, she let her coat slip to reveal the provocative outfit underneath.

The sight of her bare skin and legs sent the group members into an immediate frenzy.

"She's incredible!"

"Damn, I can't handle this! That's enough for me today."

"You little tease! I can satisfy you, too, so make sure you come to me next time."

I tamped down my anger and scrolled through the group chat mechanically until a lucky draw popped up.

After Evelyn posted the key card, she stopped dishing out live updates, but the lucky draws in the group kept going.

I didn't think much of it and casually clicked on one.

"Congratulations! You're the lucky winner! Now, share a shocking secret with the group!"

I paused for a moment before bursting into laughter.

Then, I began to type. "I have a secret of my own, but I'm afraid someone in here is going to lose their mind when they hear it."

The group members, eager for more drama, chimed in immediately.

"Let's hear it! Don't keep us waiting!"

"It'd better be good! The bar is set pretty high now!"

Because of Evelyn, the group's appetite for drama had been raised quite a bit, and every one of them was howling with anticipation.

My fingers hovered over the keyboard for a moment before I slowly wrote, "I tricked a virgin into giving me two biological daughters."

The moment the message went out, the group went silent for three full seconds.

Four years ago, I met Evelyn for the first time.At the time, she had just graduated from college. She wore a white blouse and had her hair tied in a ponytail, looking pure and innocent. As for me, I happened to be in the market for a woman, one who would give birth to my children and wouldn't be too hard to control.I made my move. I was attentive, soft-spoken, and careful with every detail. It didn't take long for Evelyn to fall for me. She became dependent on me, convinced that I was the soulmate she'd been waiting for.A year later, we got married, and my eldest daughter, Geraldine Carter, was born.I thought the charade would always be peaceful until I discovered that she had been flirting with random men behind my back.At that moment, I said nothing. My expression didn't change, and I even took the initiative to give her a shoulder massage. But from then on, I stopped thinking of Evelyn as my wife. She was merely a tool to bear my children. After confirming that Geraldi

On the day of the trial, the courtroom was packed with people.Evelyn and Timothy sat side by side in their prison uniforms, their heads lowered in silence like rats in the gutter. It didn't take long for them to turn on each other, desperate to reduce their sentences and shift the blame.Evelyn cried as she shouted, "I had no idea! He bought the stuff, and he came up with the plan. I was forced into it!"Timothy let out a cold laugh. "You were the one who said you wanted to run away. You called me and told me to get everything ready. You even bragged about how stupid your husband was and how easy he was to fool!"The judge's face remained cold and unreadable.I sat quietly in the gallery and watched them rip away the last bit of dignity they had left.Just before the verdict was announced, I stood. "Your Honor, I have additional evidence."I pulled out a thick stack of documents from an envelope and handed them to the bailiff. Those were all the materials Michael had helped me

On the seventh day after Evelyn was detained, she finally broke. She cried hysterically, saying she wanted to see me and that there were things she had to tell me in person.I agreed. The moment she entered the visitation room, she rushed to the table like a madwoman. Her eyes were red, and there was a crazed look in them."Honey, I was wrong. I made a mistake… I was blind, I was stupid, and I trusted him!"She fell to the ground and gripped the edge of the chair with both hands, her voice shaking so badly that it barely sounded like her. "Please forgive me, okay? Please let me go! I'll do whatever you want. I'll listen to anything you say. I don't need a title. I don't need the children. I don't need the money… I just need your word."I didn't respond. I merely looked at her tear-streaked, snot-covered face without feeling the slightest stir in my heart. More than ten seconds passed before I finally spoke, my voice cold as ice. "It's too late."Evelyn froze, and her face pal

The interrogation room at the police station was filled with the smell of cold air and sweat.Evelyn woke up.The moment she opened her eyes, the confusion on her face turned into terror, and she started frantically denying everything. "It wasn't me! I wasn't trying to kill my husband! I didn't do anything!"I sat across from her and watched her quietly. Her gaze swept across the room and landed on me. For an instant, her body went stiff. She knew now that I wasn't dead. If I were alive, then it would be attempted murder and not murder. She changed her tune at once, squeezing out a few tears as she dabbed at her eyes. "It was him! He got drunk and insisted on driving home. I tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen! I'm just so relieved that he survived. Why would I hurt him?"Timothy, sitting beside her, spoke up as well, saying, "I'm the manager of that hotel. I can testify that he insisted on driving under the influence. We tried to stop him, but he wouldn't listen."He lie

"What are you perverts getting so worked up for? Are you that desperate for a live stream?"Evelyn thought the group members were just clamoring for more of her provocative content. But after that message, there was a long, heavy silence. For a full 30 seconds, no one said a word or started a new lucky draw.Because Evelyn had finally seen what I posted, her ID popped up again just a moment later."Impossible! This is just a coincidence! My husband's already dead. I'm sure of it. He died this afternoon!"Her panic was practically bleeding through the screen, and the members of the group chat immediately realized something was wrong. How would she know that?"He's already dead? Your husband died this afternoon, and you're already back here, acting like a tease?""Hold on. What do you mean by that? How do you know he died this afternoon? Did you see it happen?""No way… Did you actually do something? Did we just watch a murder happen in real time?"The group chat blew up, only

After I sent that message, everyone in the group chat erupted. It didn't take long for the messages to come flooding in."What?""That twist is brutal!""Dude, why does that sound kind of familiar?""Wait. Why does this sound like what that woman was talking about a few days ago?"A faint smile graced my lips as I added, "She and her 'true love' are still stupid enough to think the kids are theirs."That line set the group off completely."Holy shit!""I swear I just heard this plot somewhere.""A few days ago, didn't some lady say her husband thought the kids were his?""Shit! Is that woman… your wife?""This is insane!""Do you have pictures? Give us proof, man!"Without a word, I posted two images in the group chat. There were two paternity test reports, both clearly stating that my daughters and I were biologically related.Seconds later, someone with a sharp eye caught it and chimed in, "Wait. The birthdates of these two kids are an exact match for the ones that the
