Chapter 7

Author: Anonymous
Lester kicked the door open, his hands trembling as he scooped Irene into his arms. "Rene, you'll be alright! I'm taking you to the hospital right now."

Natalie opened her mouth to explain, but Lester strode past her without a word, his shoulder knocking hard into hers. She staggered back.

Lester didn't even seem to notice, focusing entirely on comforting the woman in his arms.

He hadn't said a word, yet Natalie felt a chill run through her.

She had no idea how she even ended up at the hospital. When she finally found the operating room where Irene was, Lester was waiting outside, visibly tense.

It was clear that he cared deeply about Irene.

Natalie said nothing, taking a seat quietly across from him, waiting for the surgery to finish.

The hallway was deathly silent.

The intimacy they had once shared now felt galaxies away, leaving only silence between them.

After what felt like an eternity, Lester looked up, his eyes bloodshot, and spoke in a hoarse voice.

"Natalie, I already promised you that your status as my wife would never change. You're the only one I love. Why would you harm Irene?"

Seven years with him had given Natalie a deep understanding of Lester.

He was teetering on the edge of fury. The last time he had been this furious was when she'd been injured on set, and he had taken his anger out on the entire crew.

Now, the target of his anger was her, all because of his mistress. How ironic.

Natalie lowered her gaze, swallowing the bitterness coiling through her chest. "I didn't push her. She set me up."

Lester scoffed, disbelief clear in his tone. "Natalie, when did you start playing the games women used to compete for affection? Haven't I already given you everything? You're the one I love, and Rene is just a fling. Can't you tolerate her?"

Hearing that Irene was just a fling and that he only loved her, Natalie let out a bitter laugh, tears stinging her eyes.

"Lester, maybe you've said your lies so many times that you actually believe them yourself. Be honest with yourself—do you really still love me?"

If he loved her, why would he constantly seek out other women, get another woman pregnant, and not trust her?

Natalie's eyes revealed a desolate, barren truth.

Lester faltered, and his fury cooled somewhat. He assumed Natalie loved him too much and was just jealous.

After all, he had focused entirely on Irene this past month and had ignored Natalie's feelings.

He rose, holding Natalie close, and said, "Nat, wait for me. Once I lose interest in other women, I'll come back, and whatever you want to do, I'll be there with you."

It was the same empty promise he'd made countless times.

Natalie pushed him away, her voice flat. "No."

They were divorced—she no longer had to wait for him. From now on, she could live her own life.

Lester thought she was still sulking, so he said, "I'll make sure Rene doesn't press the issue, but when she comes around, you're going to have to apologize."

Natalie couldn't believe her ears. Why would she apologize when she had done nothing wrong?

Before she could respond, the operating room door burst open.

A nurse rushed out, saying, "Mr. Garrison, the patient is hemorrhaging. We urgently need type-A blood."

Lester immediately pulled out his phone and called his secretary, instructing him to source type-A blood from across the city.

Seeing his urgency, Natalie was reminded of the day of her accident on set. Lester had rushed to her side, tense and anxious, only relaxing when he saw she was safe.

Natalie rolled up her sleeve and offered her arm. "I have type-A blood. Take mine first."

Lester's gaze darkened, his lips moving as if to speak, but he said nothing.

Natalie ignored him and followed the nurse, giving 800 milliliters of blood.

After it was done, her face was pale, her lips colorless. She held her arm where the needle had been, stepping toward Lester with a faint, resigned smile. "Now, I owe you nothing…"

She had repaid Lester the debt from seven years ago.

However, he interpreted her selflessness as guilt for pushing Irene.

As he looked at her pale face, a flicker of tenderness rose in him. "Nat, go home and rest. I'll come see you once Rene's okay."

Natalie said nothing, dragging her weak body away.

For some reason, Lester's chest tightened as he watched her leave. He wanted to call after her, but the operating room's indicator light went off at that moment. He had no choice but to turn to the doctor for news of Irene.

When he turned back again, Natalie was gone.

When Natalie returned home, she dragged her already-packed suitcase to the door. She placed the divorce papers on the shoe cabinet and wrote one last note to Lester.

It read, "Lester, our story ends today. After this, we'll never meet again."

She pressed the note under the papers, glanced once at the home she had lived in for seven years, and walked out.

All the love and hatred of those years ended there and then.

Natalie was ready to write the next chapter of her life.

Having said that, Natalie rose and walked out.Their first encounter in four years drew to a close just like that. She had just returned to the hotel when Allen's call came through. "How did it go with Starlight Media, Natalie? Did everything go smoothly?"Natalie replied with a smile, "It went very well—the contract has been signed, and all that's left is the premiere next week. I'll be heading straight back to Echalon after that."Allen breathed a sigh of relief on the other end of the line before his voice took on a mischievous, gossipy tone, saying, "I heard that the CEO of Starlight Media has been on a frantic search for his runaway wife, Natalie. Did he manage to track down his wife?"Allen was unaware of Natalie's past marriage to Lester.Natalie hesitated briefly before replying, "He did find her, but she has made up her mind to start anew and move on from the past."Allen let out a rueful sigh. "I'll never understand why some people only learn the value of a person once

Natalie drew everyone's attention the moment she stepped into the conference room. Those present were aware that Natalie was Lester's ex-wife, the one he had never been able to forget.Lester, on the other hand, sat paralyzed in his seat. He held his breath and kept his gaze fixed on Natalie, fearing that it was a mere hallucination and that she might disappear the moment he blinked. He finally realized that the Natalie before him was real the moment she sat down with effortless poise. He couldn't believe that the woman who had haunted his every waking thought for four long years had finally returned.Natalie spared Lester a single, fleeting glance before greeting him with practiced courtesy. "It's been a while, Mr. Garrison."That distant, formal greeting sent a sharp pang of pain through Lester's chest. He had spent four years rehearsing this moment, imagining everything from her shouting in anger to her turning her back on him. He had never, in his wildest dreams, thought t

Four years later, Natalie arrived at Basix Airport draped in a long trench coat. She immediately donned oversized sunglasses and a mask, unwilling to risk recognition before leaving the terminal. She had just reached the arrival gate when she spotted Yvonne, whose eyes were scanning the crowd with frantic anticipation. She felt deeply moved as she quietly slipped behind Yvonne and gently tapped her shoulder, causing the latter to jump in surprise. She then eased her mask down just enough to reveal her face and whispered, "It's me, Yvonne."Yvonne stared fixedly for a long while before pulling Natalie into a tight embrace, her voice thick with emotion while saying, "You're finally back, Nat!"Natalie patted her shoulder, signaling that they should get out of there first. Yvonne snapped back to her senses and immediately began wheeling the suitcase toward the parking lot.It was only once they boarded the MPV that Natalie finally took off her mask and sunglasses, revealing a face t

Lester turned a deaf ear to Irene's sobs and walked away after saying that. He immediately took out his phone after leaving the hospital and called Henry. "I need you to dig up every piece of dirt on Irene and have it delivered to my office."Henry was highly efficient, sending over a thick stack of documents to Lester in just two hours.Lester leafed through the documents page by page, his expression darkening and his rage intensifying with every flip of the paper. He reached his breaking point by the time he reached the end of the documents. He surged to his feet, sent his chair flying with a violent kick, and let out a string of profanities.Their first encounter had been at an awards ceremony. Irene had a following then, though she went home empty-handed that night. Lester had caught her backstage, whispering words of encouragement to herself. That spark in her—that raw determination—was a mirror image of Natalie at 20 years old. He had pursued her solely because of that.

Lester froze mid-reach for the doorknob.Irene's miscarriage had been staged, and Natalie hadn't lied—she hadn't pushed Irene.Even the attack in the underground parking lot two weeks ago—the one that left Natalie battered—had been orchestrated by Irene, who deliberately incited her fans. And yet Lester had chosen to trust that liar. He allowed the assailants to walk free, blamed Natalie for the miscarriage, and made her give her blood for nothing.Inside the ward, Irene had no idea he was outside. She kept talking, oblivious."Had that baby been Lester's, I'd never have let it go. Giving birth to his kid would've made everything so much easier."I'll get my body back in shape, then give Les a baby. He's spoiling me so much now—I'm sure I can get pregnant."As for Natalie, that old hag, I obviously have to get rid of her. I'll play the same trick again, get those brain-dead fans to deal with her. If they get caught, well, it's not my problem."Every word peeled back the mask Ir

Lester's breath caught.Divorce? When had he and Natalie even filed for divorce? How had he not known? No. It couldn't be!It had to be fake, something she'd staged to scare him. Yes, that had to be it.Lester tried to reassure himself as he shakily flipped through the divorce papers. But as his eyes scanned the pages, all the hope he had was shattered. The divorce certificate listed both his and Natalie's names. The seal of the courthouse looked genuine—it was no forgery. There was no doubt—it was real.Lester, usually calm and composed, was dumbstruck. He couldn't remember when they had even filed it.Henry, standing nearby, gulped nervously and handed him a note from the cabinet. "Mr. Garrison, Mrs. Garrison left you a note."Lester snatched the note. It read, "Lester, our story ends today. After this, we'll never meet again."He was in disbelief. Never meet again? How could Natalie be so ruthless?A wave of uncontrollable rage surged in him. Seven years together, and she
