My alarm clock went off at six in the morning, a shrill, piercing sound that felt like a drill entering my skull.

I reached out and slapped the snooze button with a level of aggression that probably would have broken a cheaper clock.

I stayed there for a long time, staring at the popcorn ceiling of the dorm room, trying to ignore the fact that I could hear Callum breathing just a few feet away.

The air in the room felt heavy, like the atmosphere right before a thunderstorm, charged with a tension that hadn't dissipated since he had invaded my space the night before.

I sat up and pushed my glasses up the bridge of my nose with one finger. I looked over at Callum. He was still asleep, sprawled across his bed with one arm hanging off the edge and his mouth slightly open.

In sleep, he looked almost human, his features softened and the hardness in his jaw relaxed. It was a lie, of course.

I knew that the second those blue eyes opened, the mask of the arrogant prick would slide back into place, and he would spend the day finding new ways to make me feel small.

I felt a traitorous pull in my chest, a ghost of the boy I had loved at fifteen, but I shoved it down. That boy had drowned in the Reid family pool years ago..

I stood up and moved toward my desk, my fingers immediately searching for my blue pen. I gripped it tightly, feeling the familiar plastic texture against my skin. I needed this pen to log my sets today.

If I didn't have it, or if I used a different color, the entire structure of my morning would feel skewed, like a puzzle piece forced into the wrong slot.

I started o rganizing my swim bag, trying to ignore the way Callum shifted in his sleep, a low groan escaping his throat.

"You're doing that thing again," Callum muttered. His voice was thick with sleep, a deep rasp that sent an unwanted shiver down my spine. He didn't open his eyes, but I could tell he was tracking my every movement through his eyelids.

"What thing?" I asked, my voice tight.

Callum opened one eye and looked at me.

He cracked his knuckles one by one, a slow, deliberate habit that always seemed to signal he was about to say something cruel. "The thing where you act like a nervous little bird. Fidgeting with your pen, folding your shoulders in as if you're trying to disappear into your own skin. It's pathetic, Leo. Do you think if you make yourself small enough, I'll just forget you're here?"

I clenched my jaw and turned away from him. "I'm just getting ready for practice, Callum. Some of us actually care about our training intervals instead of just relying on raw talent and a family name to get by."

Callum let out a short, mocking laugh and sat up. He wasn't wearing a shirt, and the muscles of his chest and stomach flexed as he stretched, his torso twisting with a fluid, athletic grace.

He looked powerful, a specimen of a sprint swimmer in his prime, and I hated how much I noticed the way the morning light hit the lean lines of his abdomen.

He chewed the inside of his cheek, his gaze scanning me with an intensity that felt like he was stripping me bare.

"Raw talent is what wins races, Hayes," Callum said, his voice dropping to that low, dangerous growl. "And let's be honest. You've always been a follower. You follow the rules, you follow the coaches, you follow the crowd. You're so terrified of stepping out of line that you've turned yourself into a ghost."

"I'm not a ghost !" I snapped, finally looking at him. "I'm just not an asshole who thinks the world revolves around him because his father owns half the zip code."

Callum smirked. He stood up and stepped closer to me, invading my personal space until I could smell the faint scent of mint and expensive soap.

He towered over me, forcing me to tilt my head back to meet his eyes. "You can call me whatever you want, but we both know you're still thinking about that kiss from six years ago. You're thinking about how it felt when I finally touched you. You're probably wondering if you'll ever get that feeling back, or if you're too scared to even admit you like men."

I felt the heat rush to my face, a deep red flush that I knew was visible even in the dim light of the room. I stepped back, my heel hitting the leg of my desk with a sharp click. "I don't know what you're talking about."

  • Drowning in You   39 - Unsettled

We reached the stairs and found three people sitting on the concrete, wrapped in oversized blankets. They looked exhausted and hollowed out, their faces smeared with mud and salt. One of them was an older man in a tailored suit that had seen better days; he looked like he had stepped straight out of a boardroom and into a nightmare. Beside him was a woman in her forties with sharp eyes and a determined set to her jaw, and a younger man who looked terrified and frail. As we approached, the older man looked up. His eyes scanned our gear and then settled on Callum. He froze, his face turning a pale shade of gray. "Callum?" the man whispered, his voice trembling with shock . Callum stopped dead in his tracks. His entire body went rigid, his muscles locking up as if he had been struck by lightning. He didn't speak. He didn't move. He just stared at the man with an expression of raw horror. "Who is this?" I asked, looking between them. The woman beside the man stood up, her voice shar

  • Drowning in You   38 - Survival

I didn't answer. I took him into my mouth, sliding deep and slow. The taste of him was intoxicating, a mix of salt and heat. I used my tongue to swirl around the head, creating a rhythmic friction that had him gasping for air. I could hear the wet, sliding sounds of my mouth working on him, a sound that felt obscenely loud in the quiet of our corner. I looked up at him while I worked, watching the way his face crumbled. His eyes were closed, his head tossed back against the brick wall, his jaw tight. He wasn't the golden boy of the sprint circuit right now. He wasn't the son of a real estate mogul. He was just a man who was completely at my mercy. I increased the pace, my tongue flicking against the underside of his cock while my hand gripped the base of his shaft, squeezing firmly. I wanted to push him over the edge. I wanted him to feel exactly how much power I could have over him if I chose to use it. Callum's breathing became erratic, his moans turning into jagged cries. He gr

  • Drowning in You   37 - My Turn

I didn't respond. I turned and walked toward our makeshift sleeping area, my heart hammering against my ribs. I needed to get out of these wet clothes. I needed to feel clean, even if clean was a relative term in this wasteland.I reached our small corner and began to strip. I peeled off the wet swim gear, the nylon sticking to my skin with a cold, clinging persistence. I shivered as the wind hit my bare skin. I reached for a dry tshirt and a pair of sweatpants, my movements mechanical.Callum was behind me, his presence a heavy weight in the air. He stripped off his own gear with a fluid, athletic grace that I hated myself for noticing. He didn't use a towel; he just shook the water off his body like an animal. I looked over my shoulder and saw the lean lines of his abdomen, the way his muscles rippled as he moved. My gaze lingered on the tattoo on his ribs (nessun dorma), and I felt a traitorous heat rise in my stomach. The memory of the attic flashed through my mind. The way he h

LEO'S POVI stood frozen on the concrete, the wind whipping my damp hair across my face. Phoebe’s words echoed in my head, a poisonous loop that refused to stop. She knew. She knew about the firing, the scandal, the hidden reasons why my mother had been cast out of the Reid household with nothing but a few boxes of belongings and a shattered reputation. The secret had been a heavy stone in my chest for years, and Phoebe had just turned it into a weapon.I felt Callum’s arm tighten around my shoulder. His grip was possessive, his fingers digging into my skin through the wet fabric of my suit. I could feel the heat radiating from him, a stark contrast to the freezing rain that had started to fall again. He was staring at Phoebe with a look of pure, unadulterated rage. His jaw was locked, and I could see the muscle in his cheek twitching."What do you want Phoebe ?" Callum asked. His voice was a low, dangerous rumble that usually made people back away.Phoebe didn't flinch. She just s

  • Drowning in You   35 - A Way Out

"Oh god... Callum... yes... right there..." Leo moaned, his voice breaking into a series of jagged gasps. I increased the pace, using my hand to grip the base of his shaft while my tongue flicked against the underside of his cock with clinical specificity. I wanted to push him over the edge. I wanted to be the only thing he could feel, the only thing he could think about in this dark hole of a room. I felt his thighs tighten around my head, his hips jerking in a rhythmic, desperate dance. He was close. I could feel it in the way his breathing became erratic and his moans turned into guttural cries. I used more suction, pulling him in deeper, my tongue swirling around the head in a fast, aggressive motion. Leo let out a loud, strangled scream as he peaked, his body convulsing under me in a violent release. He collapsed back onto the table, his chest heaving and his eyes glazed with a mixture of exhaustion and euphoria. I pulled back, a thin string of saliva connecting us for a f

  • Drowning in You   34 - Shut Up

He collapsed against me, his forehead resting on my shoulder, his entire body shaking. I didn't let go. I held him tight, my chin resting on the top of his head, feeling the raw vulnerability of him. For a moment, the arrogance and the hate vanished. I just wanted him to be okay. "I... I thought...." Leo whispered, his voice a broken rasp. "I know," I murmured, my voice softening for a fraction of a second. "But you're not there anymore. You're here." We stayed like that for a long time, two drenched men in a dark room, listening to the distant sound of water leaking through the ceiling. The silence grew heavy, charged with an intensity that had nothing to do with fear. The adrenaline of nearly dying was still coursing through our veins, turning into something hotter and more urgent. I felt Leo shift against me. He didn't pull away; instead, he pressed closer, his hands gripping my biceps with a desperate strength. I looked down at him and saw the way his lips were parted, h
