Chapter 9

Penulis: Love Berries
He wanted to take back all the gifts he gave her after a breakup?

Aurora couldn’t help but laugh at Joseph’s pettiness.

She had always thought he was just a little sleazy, but she hadn’t expected him to be this cheap and stingy.

Thinking about how she was once with a man like that, she felt utterly disgusted.

When she returned to her new home, she immediately started digging through her things, determined to gather up every single gift Joseph had ever given her.

Just then, Lucas walked in.

"What are you looking for?" His voice was calm and indifferent as he glanced at her.

Aurora paused, then casually replied, "Settling debts from a breakup. My ex wants all his gifts back. I've never met a man this desperate for scraps in my entire life."

There was a hint of frustration in her tone, her striking face carrying traces of annoyance.

The next second, her phone chimed.

A bank notification popped up, informing her that $40,000 had been deposited with a memo stating it was a gift.

Lucas cast an uninterested glance at the pile of cheap trinkets scattered on the floor, his expression as indifferent as ever.

"Throw all that junk away."

Aurora froze for a moment before she heard him adding, "Mrs. Carter, I don’t like my wife keeping another man’s things."

She quickly realized that her history of being hopelessly romantic had probably spread far and wide.

Lucas must have assumed she was still hung up on her ex.

"Relax, trash belongs in the trash."

Aurora twirled the sparkling diamond ring on her finger and arched a brow. "Besides, I already have my favorite one."

And she truly did love this ring.

Besides, now that she was married, as Mrs. Carter, she couldn’t let Lucas down.

At her words, Lucas’ lips curved slightly.

Aurora hesitated as she looked at the bank transfer. "Lukey, I should probably return this money to you."

Lucas certainly didn’t care about such a small amount.

But still, it was better to keep things clear.

"No need."

He raised a brow, his tone unhurried. "Don’t worry, I’m not the type to ask for compensation after a breakup. Just think of it as me spoiling my wife."

Aurora had been on the receiving end of Lucas’ generosity before.

She was always close to Megan.

As kids, Megan would often pull her along, acting cute and sweet in front of the adults.

Lucas had been one of those adults.

She remembered how, whenever she pouted and played along, Lucas would smile slightly, his gaze warm as he handed her a thick stack of cash as pocket money.

But this was the first time she was receiving money from him as his wife.

For some reason, her face felt a little warm.

"Then… thank you, Lukey."

She didn’t refuse again.

After packing up the old gifts, Aurora was about to take a shower when she suddenly noticed that the gold necklace Joseph gave her had a patch where the color had worn off.

Her brows furrowed.

She instinctively ran her fingers over the discolored patch and let out a laugh—half amused, half exasperated.

The gold necklace was a fake.

The only valuable-looking gift Joseph had ever given her turned out to be a knockoff.

That night, curled up in bed, Aurora couldn’t resist video calling Megan to vent.

Megan was completely stunned.

"A fake?" Her eyes widened in disbelief.

"Has the Hunt family gone broke or something? Who gives a girl counterfeit jewelry as a gift?"

"It was probably something one of Joseph’s friends arranged," Aurora said lightly.

All of Joseph’s gifts were picked out by the people around him.

He had never put much thought into her.

So, it wasn’t surprising that even the gifts were cheap knockoffs.

Megan’s mouth twitched.

Joseph’s behavior was so absurd she didn’t even know where to begin.

Just as they were talking, the bedroom door suddenly swung open.

"It’s late. Aren’t you going to sleep?"

At the doorway, Lucas stood casually, dressed in a thin pajama set.

His dark eyes were unreadable, his posture relaxed, exuding an effortless elegance.

Aurora froze for a moment.

Meanwhile, Megan, still on the video call, was utterly dumbfounded.

"Holy shit! Why is my cousin with you?!"

  • Dumping My Ex to Flash Marry the Untouchable CEO   Chapter 1476

“Alright, I understand.”Lucas didn’t press further.…The next day, Aurora showed up at the Walton estate unannounced. She was curious—after seeing everything that had blown up online, after learning what Tessa had done—whose side would Grace take this time? The evidence was already laid bare before her eyes; how could she possibly defend Tessa now?Yes, defend. That was the word Aurora used, because that was what her mother always did. Grace never admitted what Tessa had done—always covering for her, always excusing her. Even now, when the truth was glaringly obvious, Aurora knew she would probably still find a way to justify it.Sometimes, Aurora couldn’t help but wonder why.Why could Grace lie so easily for one daughter while turning a blind eye to the other? Was she not her child too?Why couldn’t a mother treat her daughters equally? If she had only ever wanted one, then why bother having two? Those questions had haunted her for years. Even in her dreams, she’d never found t

Last time, she’d gotten lucky and managed to avoid trouble, but what about this time? After all these years, Aurora knew her mother well enough. Grace had always been the type who valued money above all else. Since her father passed away early, her mother’s care for her children had always been selective, given only when convenient, and she’d always favored Tessa. There really wasn’t any other way to describe her.Even Megan had mentioned it recently—that Grace seemed different lately. She didn’t even dare visit Aurora’s home anymore; whenever they needed to talk, Aurora was the one who went to see her instead.Hearing her reasoning, Lucas didn’t push further. He knew Aurora well enough to understand her decisions came from careful thought, and he respected that.“Alright, but promise me one thing—if anything happens, you tell me right away. I’m always behind you, Aurora. I want to be your support, not someone you have to hide things from.”His words, steady and sincere, made her

“I think you’re right,” Lucas said with a faint smile. “And as it happens, I’ve got something you might find interesting.”He handed her a folder.Aurora took it, puzzled, and opened it. Inside were photos of Tessa with a man—pictures of them dining together, talking intimately, and even entering and leaving a hotel.“Where did you get all this?” she asked, stunned. She hadn’t expected Lucas to dig up something this private. He tilted his chin slightly, proud. “It’s just two people. You really think I can’t find out what’s going on? If I couldn’t, I wouldn’t deserve my position at Vanguard.”Aurora couldn’t help smiling. She leaned in and kissed him lightly. “This is incredible. These photos, and the audio recordings too, they’re exactly what I needed. You have no idea how much this helps me.”“And here I thought you didn’t need my help,” Lucas said, feigning annoyance.Aurora scratched her head sheepishly. “I just didn’t want to trouble you. Besides, I already had a good idea who it

Since ancient times, no one had ever been able to make sense of this argument. People had debated it for centuries—everyone knew education mattered. But now, when someone seemed to gain everything without hard work, resentment naturally followed.Tessa saw the post and couldn’t help praising Aaron. “You really found the right person for this. With that angle, Aurora will have no choice but to respond publicly.”Tying the issue to education was a smart move. People valued education above almost everything else, and no one would tolerate someone who took shortcuts. Many were just watching the drama unfold, enjoying the spectacle. But the moment it touched on something personal, like fairness or opportunity, they would all jump out to join the fight. It was a familiar pattern.Aaron looked pleased with himself. “If the public doesn’t buy it, especially that director who isn’t even worried about the backlash, then I’ll make sure this keeps spreading. “By the time I’m done, he won’t be

[Since when did the director become like this? I remember his past shows were all great. What’s going on this time?][Mr. Smith, I really misjudged you.][Let me say this now: even if my favorite idols are in that show, I’m not watching it.][Poor them, having to work with a woman like her.]No matter how much people said online, it didn’t change the director’s decision.Even Aurora, reading those comments, couldn’t help feeling sorry for him.She had been waiting to hear that she was being replaced, but there was no sign of it.At that moment, even Aurora herself was deeply moved. She never thought the director valued her this much. She was certain that when the show aired, she would give it her all to present the project well.Megan gently nudged Aurora’s shoulder, eyes glistening. “Aurora, I’ve never seen a director like him. Everyone online is attacking him, but he hasn’t changed his mind at all. He’s standing firmly by his principles.”“I get it now. With a director like him, he’s

“Mom, don’t you feel bad for her at all?” Tessa asked quietly.Grace’s tone was firm, her expression calm. “She brought this on herself. Since she chose to leave Walton Corporation, she should’ve been ready to face the consequences.”Seeing her mother’s decisiveness, Tessa knew better than to push further. If she kept arguing, Grace would only grow displeased. So, she chose to follow along instead.“I understand, Mom.”Grace’s expression softened slightly at her daughter’s obedience. “All you need to do is focus on your work. Just like before, keep securing good projects for the comapny. The rest isn’t your concern.”She paused, then added, “I’ve always wanted you to grow stronger, not hide behind me. But when things get difficult, it’s alright to lean on me sometimes.”Listening to her mother’s composed tone, Tessa almost found it ironic. But she said nothing. Grace had already handed her a perfect way to please her—if she rejected it, she’d only seem ungrateful.“Alright, Mom. I kn
