{Ava’s POV}

The alarm bell didn’t ring so much as scream.

A shrill, metallic wail ripped across the Palace grounds— shuddering through stone, rattling windows, vibrating against my ribs. I was halfway down the corridor when the sound hit, and the force of it made me flinch.

Two guards sprinted past, nearly colliding with me.

“Breach!” one shouted.

“Eastern wall— move, move!”

My heart lurched into my throat just as Liam appeared from another hallway, fully armored despite the early hour. I didn’t have time to think.

His hair was slightly mussed, like he’d been sparring, or pacing, or both.

“Ava,” he said, his voice sharp, clipped. “With me.”

No hesitation. No room to decide. Just his hand catching my wrist as he pulled me into a run.

We rushed down the stairs that led toward the outer ramparts, the air vibrating with shouts, clashing steel, and the distinct, primal rhythm of wolf-feet thundering across stone.

Fear crept up my lungs
